I need a new band to get into

no votes
?
by dove_from_above

Lately my attention has been almost entirely consumed by boonce boonce electro stuff

Can somebody recommend me a band that I would've heard of, but never actually checked out their stuff. A band with a couple of albums, perhaps

Stuff such as Wolf Parade, Decemberists, Broken Social Scene etc is the kinda thing I'm after

Cinematic Orchestra? What are they like? I always see their name mentioned but don't know anything about them

All my knowledge

about Psychoanalytical critical theory has now been replaced by Tar

Paul De Man

can get fucked. Apples in Tar is where its at.

Young Galaxy

First album out next week :
http://www.myspace.com/younggalaxy

MY MORNING JACKET

seriously, I think you'd like. I'll happily send you some stuff, and as a plus amazon market place has most of their albums for about 3 quid.

Of which

you should get Z because it's awesome.

It Still Moves is ace too

and At Dawn.

Anyone got the live disc thing?

Snowden

yes, yes.

Snowden

like Jambo said...reminiscent of TOTB- era Interpol..all raw and fuzzy basslines and skittering drums unlike the sheen of other soundalikes like Editors, thers a bit of a Talking Heads influence in there too i think...

i'm not selling this well... but they are brilliant

Stars

I just bought set yourself on fire and I like it. It's not "new-new", but it's new to me.

^^^

this also.
er...not that similar but give Colour Revolt a go too.

Cinematic Orchestra are a bit dodgy

i suppose you could call them 'nu-jazz' (ewwww) or jazz for people what like breaks. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it does edge onto the wrong side of boring sometimes. And the vocals are often big diva-esque soul things with terrible 'uplifting' lyrics.

So you might have gathered this isn't the most glowing appraisal, but i'm only judging on the album Every Day so it might be different on other releases.

what about

DEVO

.

Pink Floyd

ive said it before..

..and ill say it again..

FANFARLO

www.myspace.com/fanfarlo

saw them at old blue last few weeks back.. brilliant stuff if your after BSocialScene type stuff..

x

like them!

just bought their single :)

Fanfarlo and more

yeah fanfarlo is damn amazing..

any other bands like that?

my italian friends have been recommending www.myspace.com/aclassiceducation the funny thing is that they are playing in London with Fanfarlo in a few weeks..

have any you wolf parade fans heard the new handsome furs?

Cinematic Orchestra

- pretty orchestrally cinematic?

Blonde Redhead

horsebox

and no-one else ever

The Pipettes

I'd like to get into them.

Maps

Yes, Maps.

http://www.myspace.com/infarednet

under the radar at the moment you can be on the band wagon early.

or

The Rascals

I'm interested in Maps

I've read some things about them/him/whatever that interest me...
