By which I mean, the first music you loved when you were a kid, no matter how uncool!
Mine were:
Madness - my Dad bought 'Baggy Trousers' on 7" when I was 1 or 2 and I made him play it again and again and again...
Shakin' Stevens - I thought 'This Ole House' was the coolest thing EVER. Especially the video, where he jumped off of an old house (which, apparently, was in Lowestoft. Rock n roll!).
Chas & Dave - When I was about a year old, my favourite song not by Madness was 'Rabbit', or, as I called it, 'I Got A Wabbit A Saysbree'.
Adam Ant - I used to pretend to be Adam Ant in the 'Stand & Deliver' video by throwing myself repeatedly onto the sofa. This somehow made perfect sense at the time.
Eurythmics - the video for 'Sweet Dreams' terrified me so much that I felt compelled to listen to the 'Sweet Dreams' and 'Be Yourself Tonight' albums EVERY SINGLE NIGHT for about 5 years.
Captain Beaky and his Band - I still know all the words to this. And 'Ice Ice Baby'. And 'Turtle Power', come to think of it. But, alas, not 'Awesome Dood' by Edd The Duck.
^^^blimey
that's brave! I was going to say Fred Schneider from the B52's and Jean Michel Jarre, and John Williams (had the star wars soundtrack on LP, it got played a lot...)
I dunno
I'd say Jean Michel Jarre would have been pretty brave too
Phil Collins
i still get mocked even today

Michael Jackson
Red hot chili peppers
All I listened to ages 12-14
I thought they were the greatest thing ever. Still think theyre great, but not quite as godly as i thought.

The first single I ever owned was Pump Up The Volume by M/A/R/R/S though, which earns me massive cool points.

Shakin Stevens-powder and paint :) that man along with jacko taught me how to dance.
Jacko-obsessed much? er yeah!!!
then i got to the age of about 12 and started liking pop reggae ala Chaka Demus and Pliars and Bitty Mclean and who could forget Ace of Base *hides in shame*
There is no shame, brother.

I never had heroes and never will.
And as for the things I loved as a kid, you'll never know...
Not heroes
Just the first names I remember scribbling on stuff.
The Police
first band i ever loved
The first record I can remember liking
was Peter and The Wolf that my dad used to put on for me; I must have been around four. Then I started getting into Living Doll by Cliff Richard, and before I knew it I was taping Jimmy Nail and 2 Unlimited off the radio. Then I got into really violently fast techno when I was about 10, which weirdly made me want to listen to Nirvana, and which lead to me starting to read the NME and a life of indie nerddom.
.
Michael Jackson, Eddie Vedder and William Whitfield Crane the 3rd
som from my vitriol
because he's asian too
the strokes.
Queen
Loved them then, Love them now!
Kylie - was my first ever concert when I was 6
Eurythmics - how can you not love them?!
Manic Street Preachers
Specifically: James Dean Bradfield - best frontman ever (I thought so at the time). and Richey Edwards - did anyone ever look so good with a guitar....
Also Bernard Butler: shy and retiring in person, picked up a guitar and turned into a cocky arrogant swaggering genius.
Rob Smith
is the fella i credit with getting me to listen properly.
but mccartney's spies like us, because of the film was my first single - so either chevy chase or dan(ananan) ackroyd should officially be my first music heroes
Hmmm...
The Damned - found my sister's Greatest Hits record and played it until it died. Worryingly though, fave track was the over-produced History of the World Pt. I
Adam and the Ants - Stand and Deliver, as above but with less sofa.
The Beastie Boys - When they first turned up on our shores I LOVED them. It was only later on I found out what most of the songs actually meant....
Stevie Wonder
and probably UB40.
I remember listening to them in my mum escort convertable and loving every minute of it.
and Stevie's still one my my heroes.
Ash
Less than jake
Fun times...
Meat Loaf
Bat Out of Hell is still in my top 50 albums list so he's still a hero in my books.
KISS
this ten yr old boy so so loved KISS. Kiss/Cheap Trick (Kiss AliveII) so heaven!
Grandma used to buy me an album each visit. I remember telling Grand-ma-ma KISS is normal and cool but that guy *pointed to FAME poster* is really weird.
(I can just imagine what old grandma was thinking: face painted clowns or a guy with flaming orange hair....hmm?!)
I don't think she noticed the next visit I picked ChangesOne. Which I played over and over and over again till the vinyl was so warped I had to buy a new copy!
ABBA
age 4
still remember watching them on our black and white TV.
The year 1979. Oh yeah
Abba!
I can't believe I forgot them! Listening/dancing badly to Abba is still a fundamental part of Christmas & New Year in my family...
erm
hawkwind, jethro tull, black sabbath from my dad
of my own choosing - pantera, offspring, red hot chili peppers
beethoven, rolf harris
and anything off the old heartbeat soundtracks...

Guns n Roses

Timid Toad, Reckless Rat, Arthur Owl and Batty Bat
