Is it just me, or does this track make you wish you were 164 Ft tall, stomping through a Japanese city?

It's just me, isn't it.

Re: E Pro

I loathe Beck.

Re: E Pro

I dont. :)

Re: E Pro

neither do I, and maybe he even deserves the genius tag as he has been something of a rock'n'roll chameleon throughout his career.

Re: E Pro

i love beck

soy un perdedor...

Re: E Pro

I like him, but he keeps making bad albums.

Re: E Pro

such as....?

Re: E Pro

Everything since Odelay.

Re: E Pro

I love Sea Change.

ah well mr Brainlove we cant agree on anything.........wait what do we agree on?? :)

Re: E Pro

Yeah, Seachange is very good. Really didn't like Mutations though.

Re: E Pro

Aw the one with all the soul/funk stuff was pretty fun

Re: E Pro

not sure about the crushing tokyo analogy, but i do love beck.

every album is so amazingly different.

can't fault the guy.

Re: E Pro

Absolutely, every album is completely different, even though I sometimes get the feeling he's zinging through his musical career in reverse (I haven't hear Guero yet). Not that there's anything wrong with that mind....

Re: E Pro

Genius? he's not exactly Debussy is he? Sorry I wont back down on this one - there is something completely ingenuine about this man that leaves me cold

Sometimes I weep blood for what we pass as the new Messiahs I really do - I'll try Pat Wolf but I'll never ever let a Beck record into my house, not even after I'm dead

Re: E Pro

You dont have to agree. I'm sure that if i look at your profile i'll find some stuff i hate, likewise with you.

Re: E Pro

very true fullerov and I wont wish you dead if you don't like Add N to X or Broadcast - I once got threatened with actual violence at University for deigning to write an article saying that the "Stone Roses are just a band - get over it" - after they split - I ended up beign friends with said person ironically

sometimes its like North Korea in here but with less tragi-comedy

Re: E Pro

"sometimes its like North Korea in here but with less tragi-comedy"

Blimey! Guess you can't have a drama without a drama queen, eh?

Re: E Pro

what is you find ingenuine about him?

Why must you slate everyone that I love mr.prole? First Tom Waits...now Beck

Re: E Pro

well it gets a conversation going - every thread on here is everyone agreeing with each other like they're scared of being off message and therefore vilified - I find Beck distastful because I think its style over songs which to me equates to cynical marketing - almost like bowie but without the sense of melody - I know artists have to evolve but there is something not quite right with this man - you can almost see the meetings at David Geffen or wherever - "so beck what styles should we infuse on your latest product? Theres a box of back catalogue of genres over there that never sold much for us - see what you can do to help shift a few on our re-issue program"

Re: E Pro

Stop being so paranoid.

Re: E Pro

So you're saying that the reason Beck switches so often between genres of music is to suit the needs of his record company?

Hmmm, interesting, wait I don't mean that I mean 'stupid'

Ahhh

Re: E Pro

titter.

Re: E Pro

Kind of get where you're coming from, but still think it's the worst track on Guero. It's just too straight forward and boring unlike the rest of the album!

Re: E Pro

hmm

I used to really like Beck, but after he toured Odelay for two years, he just lost all momentum for me.......

I mean, up til that point, each one of his singles was different and a step forward from the previous one, and then he released tropacalia and another one with the same sort of latiny vibe to it, and went from being an essential artist IMO, to being a parody of himself

Re: E Pro

Yeah. The 'Prince' direction kinda killed it.

Re: E Pro

dont think Im being paronoid - i just think some companies work like that and as you say the 'Prince' direction' - let's think who wasnt selling the a lot of records at the time and ooh I do believe they're both on Warners, or were!

anyway its just supposition to make being stuck at work go by quicker!

Re: E Pro

The Prince direction was just Beck thinking he had a great idea when actually it didn't really work. Like Bowie, sometimes those famous chameleon-like transitions don't run quite so smoothly... does anyone remember Bowie's 90's 'characters'? Didn't think so. And people won't remember Beck's Prince direction either.

Re: E Pro

I think Beck is great. E Pro is an okay song, I'd give it a 3/5. The only albums I don't like by him are Midnite Vultures and Stereopathetic Soul Manure.
