Anyone going to the Leeds gig tonight? Or did anyone go to the first gig in Portsmouth?
I cannot wait!

Re: Bright Eyes

i went to portsmouth, it was fantastic. all of 'im wide awake' except for first day, plus a scale a mirror, padraic my prince, june on the west coast, and some really good new songs. nothing from lifted, but still brilliant, and jenny lewis was definitely eyeing me up during rilo kiley's set. woof.

Re: Bright Eyes

Mmm, thought it was pretty good, although the band didn't really seem to get into it until halfway through the gig. Crowd seemed very static, too.

It probably didn't help my enjoyment that I threw up twice during the set. One of those was during a gorgeous solo rendition of Lua, which I'm seriously pissed off that I missed most of it.
I'm not well.

Re: Bright Eyes

I thought it was an amazing gig....it was a shame that there was not a single song off 'lifted' but 'true blue' and the new one were quality. I agree about the band not really getting into it til halfway...but once they did they seemed to really enjoy it. Plus the bit where he said 'this is off a 7'' split with Beethoven..i taught him everythinig he knows and he gets all the credit..don't worry i'v got lawyers on the case'' before 'Road To Joy'...bless him.

Re: Bright Eyes

That advert for 'im wide awake.....' on this page annoys me. 'Conor could've gone all out to create a shouty, disserting, scuzzy, yet clever, oblivion gazing, punk racket. But thank fuck for his romanticism and restraint'...they not heard of Desaparecidos or something?

Re: Bright Eyes

I'm sure they have (though I was surprised to find that it was only released here a couple of months ago). But I believe that comment is referring specifically to Wide Awake, rather than Oberst as a whole. Surely you'd concede that Wide Awake is far more restrained than his previous work?

Re: Bright Eyes

“me and cave man drank tha stuff (horse power) and fuckin boned all night”

Re: Bright Eyes

Saw him a couple of hyears back in london, really boring, upstaged by british sea power

Re: Bright Eyes

Anyone know if there will be the obligatory secret London gig? Cmon sean give us a hint

Re: Bright Eyes

why should there be a a secret gig in lonodn and why should anyone on here know or to be frank give a shit - he's not jesus or some sort of deity - if he is to you then you clearly need to start interacting with people in 'real time' or something

Re: Bright Eyes

and yes I spelt London wrong that was because I was foaming at the mouth

Re: Bright Eyes

well said.
I must admit I'm a little bemused by the fuss young conor creates. I find his work a little cloying.
But he releases a lot. So thats good.
apparantly.

Re: Bright Eyes

yes, but so did Baby Bird and Frank Zappa - is it a case that throw enough shit and some will stick?

I too am bemused how much adulation some whiny sulky indie fop gets especially when the music is weaker than piss weak tea - I lump this man in with Willy Mason who I am sure is covering Dylan songs and the London media is so daft they haven't noticed

Re: Bright Eyes

thank the lord.
I thought I was on my own.

I'm sorry. I don't like Bright Eyes.
You know that bit on Lifted.....where he sings
"and everyone is always waiting for the mistakes" (or something) and then the music stops because someone makes a mistake. I hate that.

And that album where he puts that fake radio interview on one of the songs.

anyway..............each to their own and all that.

Re: Bright Eyes

I heard something onthe radio from him on weds night and it was EXACTLY the same as Waiting for the Great Leap Forward by Billy Bragg - if you want to rip something off rip something off that is actually good

I cannot stand this little prissy tit and will not feel bad bemoaning that fact he exists

Re: Bright Eyes

Billy Bragg is fucking good in my opinion, and I like the song in question, cant see any bright eyes comparison
still, each to their own

didnt like bright eyes at all, (in fact saw connor solo in 01 and was so irritated I left the tent), all of his stuff gnawed at me on ecod too.
then saw em at Glasto last year, and they (full band) played one of the best gigs i've ever seen, Seen Bright eyes twice since (theyve played san diego twice this year), once was decent, bit meandering, the other one excellent again.

I'm definitely sold on them/him now, particularly the desperacidos stuff. It's pretentious as at times, but same can be said of other stuff

I won't be retarded and ask you to give him some time, but would tell you that this time last year I'd have given a sermon about how overatted the guy's music was, and now i'm really impressed

I tend to think of Oberst as some sort of proto donnie darko (if Schwartzman in rushmore wasnt), bit irritating at times but there's definitely something going on, at times very special.

Or you could always buy a sparklehorse/beauty shop album instead, or get drunk, and like, meet girls

Re: Bright Eyes

btw prole, the "you" is some sort of bastardized 5th tense referring to anyone, possibly inching towards myself, rather than you.

I just need a copy of catcher in the rye and some razorblades and i'm all set to being worth treading on.

Re: Bright Eyes

why should there be a a secret gig in lonodn

A: because he has the last 2 times

and why should anyone on here know...

A: because dis was were I found out the last 2 times

...or to be frank give a shit - he's not jesus or some sort of deity - if he is to you then you clearly need to start interacting with people in 'real time' or something

A: I never said he was, he/they however are my favourite band and if they play another secret gig i would want to see it. Is that so hard to understand?

Re: Bright Eyes

seeing em on monday YAY 4th time now woo hoo

Re: Bright Eyes
