Stealing music is wrong. Overpriced cd's are wrong. Howevre if you look hard enough you can find all your favrourite cd's for under a tenner and the artists that make the music you enjoy can make a living.

Yeah totally dude. I buy most of my CDs of Amazon distributors for cheaper rates - it's still official and the artist gets some money but it also means I can actually afford to hear their music. The attitude that it's somehow funny that she can download music without paying pisses me off so much though. People wouldn't go into a record store and cart off a trolley of CDs without paying for them, which is what illegal downloading amounts to.

Still, if she wants to do her little bit towards bankrupting Matchbook Romance and The Used, who am I to argue?

Good post mate. Glad to see your digging out legal bargins I HATE the fact that some stores feel the need to charge 16 quid for a cd.

so have you never downloaded an album that you loved so much that you then went out and bought it, then next time that band were playing in your town you went to see them, and then bought a tshirt after??? Saying that free music downloading is like stealing from a music shop is just not true. The people who do the most downloading probably buy the most music.

But is that really reasonable? We've come to accept under a tenner for a CD as being good value, but when compared to the production costs it really isn't. I'm not condoning illegal downloading by the way, just offering another point of view.

My CD has Reveille by Deerhoof therein, but that is irrelevant as I'm listening to the record deck which has Sung Tongs by Animal Collective which, inci-cocking-dentally, is an amazing album. Never heard anything quite like it.

Also, I like red wine :~s

'Wave of Mutilation' The Pixies. I love, 'Nimrod's Son', 'Wave of Mutilation', 'Broken Face' and Monkey Gone to Heaven'. Ooh and 'Debaser' too, that is such a great c.d!

I really like the Decemberists but it's all subjective innit?
The lyrics are really good - about pirates & 19th C whores and the like. You can find an MP3 of a top tune called 'Shiny' <ahref=http://www.insound.com/mp3/searchmp3.cfm>here

It's sorts melancholy folk country....

In my CD player is '3 Commissions' by Mira Calix. It's awesome. But I'm ACTUALLY listening to some MP3s of the band Woe on Epitonic. Fabulous discordant instrumental guitar/horn stuff.
