The new album isn't that bad,sure it's not worth buying but having downloaded it and listened to it a few times,it's started to grow on me.

His voice is still annoying though but at least it's backed up by some interesting sounds and great production.

The might of Bloc Party and Kaiser Chiefs will soon help me snap out of it though :-)

that's interesting, i've been thinking about buying that for a while now. i've heard it's a lot more rocky like their fist album "word gets around". although i don't have every one of their albums, i know that this is posssibly their best. but i haven't really heard much other feedback about it, nobody seems to be that fussed. can't be that special then. or that shit either!

I love the album - been in my CD player for 2 weeks, worth buying even just for 'Dakota'. It is certainly an improvement from the last couple of albums which haven't really been up to scratch.

Why is everyone so into them at the moment?

Personally, I am really sick of their constant changes in style. I could just about put up with JEEtP, but after changing even more to a boring mum band and releasing 'Maybe Tomorrow' I just wanted them to fuck off. It seems like they are just following the trends. They started off really good (at the time) and now they are just doing the 'in' thing at the moment, which is indie. The 'Dakota' video just makes me want to hurt Kelly Jones and his smug, 'cool', shades - clad little face... By the way, look out for his live performances, he ALWAYS stands about, 10 metres away from the bassist because he (Jones) is literally like 5'6.

JEEP was fucking Appalling. Word Gets Around is a great album, Performance & Cocktails is pretty good as well with only a few shit songs. But JEEP and the one after that really are bad.
Dakota is quite good but not good enough to redeem them yet in my view. Certainly wouldn't buy the new album.

The bassist is called Jones too by the way.

Good question.

They are bland, totally uninspiried and havent done anything of note since their decent debut album.

Kelly Jones isnt exactly a great singer or songwriter so their popularity is a mystery. Having said that Ocean Colour Scene are also still on the go, so the oddness doesnt begin and end with the 'phonics.

I wouldn't say I was into them just that the new album is much better than I expected. I give it 5/10.

I hated them for 6 years before Dakota came out.

Word Gets Around is far far better than the new one anyway.

Yuck. This band are totally cock. They always have been. Anything other than totally cock new album would be a very big surprise.
