Today ive been in a ""feel good" guitar music" mood, so have listened to sum 41 and blue album by weezer.

But which do YOU think is better?
I think I know what the answer will be, but still.

i've felt more euphoric

about sum 41 in the past really. better memories from the all killer no filler album.

blue album is still good though, OBV.

its too difficult to choose

they're just both so appalling

*appealing

bbbbbut

pinkerton is the greatest album ever made!

I love it, It's an amazing album

But I wouldn't go that far.

nah it is

I checked

fair enough

It's official then

well

as much as I enjoy jumping around to In Too Deep from time to time, I think we all know the answer to this one.

Feel good guitar music all the way, though.

Weezer is almost tolerable

except for that Beverly Hills song which makes me sick. Not sick, like "good" sick, just sick. The throwing up in a toilet kind of sick.

As for Sum 41 I can find no redeemining qualities whatsoever.

Is that what you thought I'd say? ;)

Have you heard blue album?

all I had heard of them until a while ago was beverly hills, so I thought they sucked, but I heard blue album and love it now. Every song has a singalong chorus and stuff, its well "fun", and im not usually one for "fun".

and dont tell me

the opening riff of "fat lip" doesent make you wanna bouce around?

Not really honestly

I'm mostly basing my omin-present godlike judgement on one song: the sweater/thread tune. Meh.

I have noted people that I respect have spoken highly of the blue and pink albums.

It's not on the top of my list but I'll check em out when the opportunity arises.

bump pinkerton to the top of your list

I know it sounds unlikely but im not exagerating when I say it is the greatest album ever made

All Killer No Filler is wicked

but I mean, Weezer are a far far far better band than Sum 41. I'd never go back and listen to Sum 41 now, but I regularly listen to Weezer.

Weezer, everytime.

Although the last album was GASH.

Pinkerton is a total treat.

Sum 41 were toss. End of.

Weezer.

weezer, by a country mile

just listened to only in dreams whilst in the kitchen and it almost made me cry, absolutely perfect. blue is one of my top 5 all time albums

but what?

If you'd posted In Too Deep i MIGHT have POSSIBLY seen your point, somehow. But no. You had to put up that steaming piece of donkey pat that makes Limp Bizkit look like they were doing something admirable for popular culture.

WEEZER! WEEZER! WEEZER!

they changed my life.

Sum 41 on the other hand, didn't.

i cant imagine anyone is going to say

"sum 41"

Blink 182, you might have got some people saying that. But not sum 41. they're like the american Busted. And Busted were terrible. the only thing that made busted okay was BUT YOU SAID NO. they would have been much better if all their songs had that in them. Much in the same way, the long blondes would be much better if all their songs had "is she a femme fatale" shouted in the background. but i'm prole-ing on a bit. .. Sum 41 = american busted. and always preferred mcfly anywaay. Weezer, on the other hand, are amazing!

Not the american busted... At all.

Besides, theyre canadian.

I think they had *abit* more to them

then people gave them credit for, I think that we're all to blame song is pretty good

anyone...

who doesn't like Weezer has no sense of melody.

anyone...

who likes Weezer has no sense of dignity

Dignity can do one

they're great.

if you'd left out the "besides"

that would have been my favourite post in the history of the world.

who are the american busted? all american rejects?

Wasn't

there some band who were ACTUALLY marketed as Busted Mk. 2: American edition? As in, they played all their songs as if they were their own?

Long Blondes would be better if they...

...actually i don't think they can get better. Perfect pop music.

you're probably right

i do love them.

but i did that thing, where you buy an album, then listen to it too much, and have to leave it for a while...

Same here

but i'm on the leaving it for a while phase at the moment and still know it's brilliant.

I liked the first two Sum 41 albums

but they lost their way a bit after that. Weezer on the other hand... LOL.

Seriously, I think Sum 41 are really underrated. Never listened to their albums in full (although I have them somewhere on my PC), but they were a great singles band. Had a genuinely fun sense of humour, as opposed to the simply juvenile sense of humour blink had, and produced some catchy, but not irritating, songs. I don't mean any of that ironically. I genuinely like some of their stuff, and had to watch that Fat Lip video through to the end once it started.

A lot, lot better than blink-182. In a completely different class, and I think it's unfair that they're grouped together. But not quite in the same class as Weezer.

YES!

AAF had a few good tunes. Rubbish videos though. And that Michael Jackson cover was crap-tastic. But still aeons ahead of Sum 41.

Nooooooo

Sum 41 >>>> AAF. AAF took themselves too seriously.

Good!

Bands need to do that sometimes.

Although i don't know if this really constitutes a band 'taking themselves seriously':

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGfCzIZzQpY

A thin veneer of humour

aimed at disguising their true opinions of themselves from people. I'm surprised you didn't see through it.

It's better that way really

Sum 41 are a cautionary tale to new bands: stop taking yourself seriously and you'll turn into them.

maybe sum 41 should have taken themselves seriously

and then they might have been good... wait, sum 41 were never gonna be good.

But take yourselves seriously

and you'll make Chuck :(

or Razorlight.

i know there's a happy medium.

razorlight

perfect example to not take yourself too seriously?

yep.

weezer

first 3 albums, at least

Weezer all the way

Sum 41 are hideous.

All Killer No Filler

is great. And I've been in a similar mood today actually. I've had albums on by Foo Fighters, The Hives, Jet, Super Furry Animals, and The Shins.

Sufjan Stevens too, and he's pretty "feel-good" in places.

Fullerov

Weezer have made Three albums of utter genius.

Sum 41 are ok. Better than Good Charlotte but not much more. And definitely a lot worse than Blink

^this,

except which was the third?

Green

Green is better than Blue.

I don't care what anyone says.

My preference in order

Blue
Maladroit (very, very dark)
Pinkerton
Green
Make Believe

I could understand why folks may have Pinkerton at the top, but I only got it recently so it doesn't have quite such a place in my heart.

I've heard it said that Make Believe is, er, "misunderstood" or something. I certainly don't understand what makes it anything better than mediocre.

But yeah, Weezer, I'll always have a soft spot.

I seem to remeber prefering maladroit to green

i think i'm going to have a weezer binge!

Yeah, I really like Maladroit

Not sure why it gets slated, Take Control has my favourite guitar solo ever in it, Dope Nose is awesome, Burdnt Jamb is my ringtone... Really really good album.

I just kinda ignore Make Believe.

So, Blue > Maladroit > Pinkerton > Green > Make Believe

What ^he said, basically.

fair enough i'll listen to it again soon

not heard it in years, but it must be worth another go.

right now though i'm remembering exactly how amazing pinkerton is!!!

Shut up.

Sum 41 are trash.
Actually so are Weezer nowadays, but they weren't trash and Sum 41 have always been trash. Plus, Pinkerton = one of Marc's favourite albums ever. FACT.

yeah, buyt you refer to yourself in the third person

so it's pretty hard to take anything you say seriously.

OUCH!

Take that, me.

Prickfuck.

Hmm, I never liked Weezer

but when I was a mini-mosher I loved Sum 41, and In Too Deep is such a tune.

SUM 41 WINS MY HEART, LOGICALLY.

^^ this

Sum41 were good fun to anyone in their teens in the nineties

REALLY?!

well

since they released all their albums in this decade you must be a BIG fan :D

lol

you got me

ive seen sum 41 live

that is all.

so have I.

They dedicated a song to Anna Nicole Smith with the following words which mean I will always SLIGHTLY like them

"This song is for Anna Nicole Smith. The big fucking cunt"

thats great

make believe is severly underrated in my opinion.

some brilliant tunes on there.

My order:

Pink 9.5/10
Blue 9.4/10
Green 8/10
Make Believe 7.5/10
Maladroit 7/10

I love Weezer.

I like Make Believe

but i also liked Beverly Hills.

For what it's worth I think it's better than Maladroit.

But I am appreciating Maladroit more and more now. I used to think it was awful. It isn't.

I've just put make believe on again

It's amazing. I might reappraise Maladroit tomorrow. It does have the best title of any weezer LP.

I regard Maladroit as more of an experiment

It's MUCH less poppy than anything they've ever done.

Keep Fishin' (single version) and Dope Nose are among the best Weezer albums.

Rivers Cuomo is a vastly talented songwriter really.

Keep fishing was awesome

accompanied by a fantastic video.

The album version

is SO slowed down.

and is the poorer for it.

I really really don't understand why Make Believe got the kicking it did. It is a perfectly decent album.

Hold Me, Perfect Situation, The Damage In Your Heart are all awesome songs.

Hell. I'm gonna play Beverly Hills now.

& peace, pardon me & my best friend

In 5 albums Weezer have barely recorded a bad song.

I like make believe

dont think I will evver like maladroit, its just a load of fragments that dont really fit

My God no!

SUM 41 are derivative cack and should not be held in the same regard as Weezer! Age should have no bearing on this...

try

smash hits magazine
i'm sure they'll have a website somewhere

its not the best

no way as good as fat lip anyway.

Yeah, Weezer > Sum 41

Except for 'Pain for Pleasure'. For a parody, it's pretty fucking good.

how can you even ask this?

weezer all the way every time

the

sweater song alone beats the sum of sum 41.

i can't believe this is actually even a thread

and people have ACTUALLY replied sum 41???

Weezer are amazing, sum 41 are bollocks. That is all.

no

you're wrong

and you're a grotesquely ugly freak

Weezer, every single time

They are a fantastic band, every song just makes you tap your feet. Rivers is a great song writer.

the Blue album

is just wonderful. they went further adrift with each subsequent album imo, but Blue is just a modern classic.

Weezer

for sure!
