Sheffield's famous Gatecrasher club is currently on fire (Monday, June 18, 19.22).
Fire crews were called to the club just after 5pm, reports the BBC website here. At present, a number of surrounding roads are closed as emergency services contain the blaze and secure the area. Witnesses report seeing a grey cloud - which later turned yellow - spread across the city's skyline.
The fire was - at its peak - so bad that residents on the other side of the city could feel it. One told the BBC: "I've had to go around closing all the windows because the smell of the smoke's so strong and have been watching the charred bits fly past the window, and I'm on the other side of town from Gatecrasher."
Updates on the state of Gatecrasher when we have them, i.e. tomorrow because we're going home. The situation doesn't seem good, though: the latest is that the roof has collapsed. Our commiserations, Clubland.

I could make any of the dance songs ever made on my computer in liek 10 minutes

going past this at 520 this evening. Quite a few bellends wandering round with camera phones. I presumed it was the matilda centre burning, which despite the crusts, was ace as a C90 venue.
Never been to Gatecrasher...felt I should have when it was still a big deal...not too fussed now.
Obviously its a bad thing because fire and property(especially when around living things), are bad

ive had some amazin times at that place and there wont be another club like it for atmosphere, meeting new people and stomping till the early hours of the morning.
Indie is a totally different style of music wich dosnt even compete in the same market as trance so theres no victory just alot of pissed off people who loved that place! I can see where you get the chav idea from but as clubber i can tell you that when i go out i dont see many people what i would personally class as chavs just people out for a good time, obviously u get a few but where doesnt these days lol.

If the place

a large percentage of "indie" students would have gone to crasher had they been around eight years older.
