play a free show at the Southbank Centre today at 6pm

- it was supposed to be outside the Royal Festival Hall near the fountain feature

but apparently if the Glastonbury/Wimbledon weather continues

the band will play on the Front Room stage in the Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer

I'd never heard of them before

but saw them yesterday in the RAIN, they were really lovely, kind of lulled me to sleep though.

awesome

I work approximately three minutes away from the QEH. whammy.

this was great.

yes, yes it was.

I really REALLY wanted to go.

Stuff shouldn't be on so early. :(

lahdan

I know what u mean about Londoners. I wish i lived there.
re beirut, watching the glasto set, sounding super duper

glasto

its a pretty good set, but he sounds fairly pissed and fucks up a bit..
he was note perfect tonight!

he did seem pissed

his banter was funny though

shittT

forgot about this... arse...

still, devo tomorrow...

this made me very happy

even though i was tired and hungry and wanting to sit down.

and the last song was from time of the gypsies wasn't it?! that made me smile. :) yes, like that.

you should have bought an overpriced sandwich...

grinning like a maniac most of the way through :)

five words:

rufus wainwright raised by gypsies

(in a good way)

it was quite nice

but the music really is very average, and beirut fans should go to more school orchestra recitals

Totally worth it.

Shame it wasn't on a BOAT.

would have been nice

if they'd done it outside, as the sun did kind of make an appearance by the time they came on. saying that i have absolutely no complaints whatsoever. a thoroughly lovely evening and start to the week...

it was quite delightful

nice atmosphere, sounded rather wonderful and great to have the backdrop of the river behind it all, with the sun coming out. how lovely.

at Koko

what did you all think?

lots of 'Faces' there...

i liked it -
infact i'm kidding myself

I loved it !

thought last night

was a bit underwhelming, might have worked better in a smaller venue

^ this.

Koko is an awful venue for antuff as subtle as this. To be honest I wasn't expecting to be blown away but I did enjoy the set. They played everthing I wanted them to play but I came out with no strong opinions as the set didn't seem to go anywhere, it was pretty flat after the second song. A smaller venue would have been MUCH better but I don't think I'll make an efford to see them again. Shame.

koko is pretty bad

sound wise at least, but as they SOLD OUT the place, you can't really be expecting them to be playing a smaller venue, can you?

I was a little bored by the

whole thing, unfortunately. And seriously; all those songs did NOT need standard rock drumming and bass laid over the top. Really detracted from the good stuff.

Dirth Projectors, however: AMAZING. I might try and see them headlining next week.

Oh god no

Dirty Projectors were awful. Every song seemed to start off with the girls doing stupid harmonies/ ooh'ing, and the music was pap, and then the singer was bad and also seemed to sing a bit too dementedly at times.

Beirut were good, but a smaller venue would have been better. Such a shame that the Luminaire gig never happened last year.

I completely disagree, with my mind.

Nature of this place though innit! The harmonies the girls were doing were wicked; really unconventional. And that the lead chap play them little fiddly guitar parts while still managing to run up and down the scales like Anthony Hegarty! 'Mazin.

To go from the 4 of them making this rich, intricate stuff to the Beirut's blunt trauma of instrumentation was pretty jarring.

Thank you

Much appreciated. Lovely stuff

xxxxxxx

Dirty Projectors

Anyone who doesn't like Dirty Projectors is a stupid idiot who doesn't deserve ears. I think that's all I have to say on this matter. I'm aware people have opinions, but regarding the Dirty Projectors, you'd be wrong to disagree. Completely wrong. DIRTY PROJECTORS ROOLZ YOU DROOLZ. Right, beddy byes.

hahaha

awful band.
I was very pleased to see that I stopped bothering clapping after each song at the exact same time as the chap next to me.

we're 2-1 here Paulo!

2-1! The internet disagrees! Although if you count that chap who was standing next to you, we're 2-2. So.. hrm.. let's not count that chap. He might have suddenly developed.. hand AIDS.

I MAKE THE RULES HERE

I'll settle for a draw

especially as blogotheque have added the dirty projectors on their site:

http://www.blogotheque.net/takeawayshows/

& blogotheque normally likes such good music *shakes head sadly*

actually, sorry, no

I can't accept a draw. I started the watch that first video, and had to stop as soon as he started singing all spaztardily. Ugh.
