The Verve are reuniting for a tour in November.
The original line-up of Richard Ashcroft, Nick McCabe, Simon Jones and Pete Sailsbury have been working on new material in the studio last week, and are set to complete their comeback album after taking a summer break.
The legendary Wigan shoegazers-turned-soul survivors split in 1999 after the disintegration of Ashcroft and McCabe’s fiery relationship.
In a statement, the band said they were "getting back together for the joy of the music."
The autumn dates are as follows:
November
2 Glasgow Academy
3 Glasgow Academy
5 Blackpool Empress Ballroom
6 Blackpool Empress Ballroom
8 London Roundhouse
9 London Roundhouse
Tickets will go on sale on July 6.

A new Verve album on the way
Can't wait.
hmmm
more like getting back together cos ashcroft's solo career didn't quite go to plan cos his solo stuff that urban hymns paved the way for was such gash...
or getting back together again cos they've been offered shitloads of wonga to reform!
you just KNOW
it's gonna be short lived and shite.
I dunno...
there's no way McCabe would have rejoined if it was going to be like 1997 all over again, with Ashcroft reducing the others to Just Another Backing Band. This is the ORIGINAL line-up, the one that made 'A Storm In Heaven' and 'A Northern Soul', NOT the line-up that recorded 'Urban Hymns', so it could actually be fantastic.

Well...
...yeah, Ashcroft had most the songs already written and McCabe had to work around them. I think he hates Urban Hymns actually, I remember him comparing it to Bon Jovi or something, hehe
Like I've said in previous discussions, the Urban Hymns B-Sides show the band writing together again. Stuff like Stamped and Echo Bass, Monte Carlo from the Greatest Hits... thats the kinda thing I hope to hear from this album. And maybe another titanic effort like Rolling People would be nice too.
I just hope they don't shun the old material in the live shows.
That's what worries me!
I saw them at V98 and it was heartbreaking - no McCabe, and their entire pre-Urban Hymns output was represented by two songs ('See You In The Next One' and 'History', which was a complete load of fucking shit in the first place).
The question that's bugging me is: do I risk the heartbreak again? I've dreamed of seeing that original line-up onstage for over a decade now, but if they suck I'll have to burn things. Starting with Ashcroft's face.
That first video
is fucking amazing.
Hope this isn't dissapointed, but today I'm happy!
Old Bootlegs
If you get on http://www.dimeadozen.org they had some torrents full DVD bootlegs of 93ish Verve. Full gigs from Camden and Chicago, absolutley brilliant stuff.
Theres a good Pinkpop one with a pretty staggering performance of Rolling People and Lifes An Ocean too.
Just had a look on there,
what software do you need to run those .torrent files?
Aaaaaargh!
Trying to work out that .torrent thing is a fucking nightmare! Think I'll stick to YouTube...
Wigan
verve cumin bk wot a fantastic bit of news ppl talk bout oasis bein the band of the 90's BULLSHIT any1 who wuz in wigan wen they did that gig would know wot a life changer they can B
some people are really in need of...
money !
I don't know why...
but this depresses me. Maybe it's cos they could be amazing. But they won't be.
And the whole Verve thing migrated, didn't it. When were they ever meant to be a 'band of the people'? playing shows in fields in Wigan.
I want them to be psychedelic warriors from venus again. THAT Won't happen.
The original fans are still spinning in their Gravity Graves...
I don't know about that
Ashcroft is loaded. And Mccabe was a virtual recluse in France untill recently so he doesn't need the limelight.
SWEET JESUS!
No.
Someone needs money.
mixed really
i love early Verve, but the gigs are going to be full of beery football hooligans waiting for The Drugs Don't work and Ashcroft's "genius".
Whereas I want to hear 10 minute jams with Nick Mccabe.
This man
speaks the truth
I fucking knew this would happen
arse off you annoying bumheads
ay
couldn't agree more. and 'annoying bumheads' is about as much as anyone needs to say about the verve.
I just remember
what an insufferably arrogant prick Richard Ashcroft was at the height of The Verve's fame. Still, every band's reforming these days...
YAY
I wanna go!!!
^
i absolutely adore the verve. i'll quite happily put up with utter utter shite to hear them play live.
i'm pretty sure i will be at the london gigs.
desperate.
lets wait and see its joy of music or money.
.
Was Simon Tong part of the original line up? If hes reunited with them then that kind of adds to the Blur rumours.
Simon Tong
Simon Tong was brought in in 1996 to replace McCabe but remained as second guitarist when McCabe returned.
McCabe likes the more psychedelic sounds whereas Tong is more pop. McCabe often used to spend long parts of gigs sat on the floor playing because he had so much pedal work to do.
IMO he ranks alongside Squire, Marr and Butler (who also joined Verve for about a week between McCabe and Tong back in 1996) in the greatest indie guitarists of all time catagory.
PS
McCabe that is, not Tong.
Simon Tong -
2nd choice of guitarist to the stars.

PRE SALE TICKETS
In my experience pre-sales will take place either wed (4th) or Thursday (5th) of next week.
They generally happen through seetickets, although in the past i have bought tickets for the Roundhouse on presale which requires a artist code on the Roundhouse website which should be provide by The Verve website next week.....If you join the official The Verve website i predict they will send an email to their members with presale info early next week. Ashcroft normally looks after his fans.
I will keep an eye out for the pre sale and post on here for you guys.
hope this helps, thanks

woah.
shit, that is spooky. i was thinking about how great a northern soul was the other day and then i read this news, fantastic! i bet it will be fantastic, ashcroft always needed the inspiration of the band with him, solo, bar one song, he was crap.
LONG LIVE THE VERVE.
I dunno
i really dunno about this, it could be amazing but then again it could be shite. depends if dicky's ego gets in the way. last time i saw the verve was january '97 at brixton. it was amazing. mind you i was stoned off me tits at the time. :)
Ashcroft's solo material is bloody awful.
The guy has gone from writing 'I stand accused/ just like you/ of being born without a silver spoon' to writing shit like 'Money To Burn' about how loaded he is.
