quicksand ep on 7" - original pressing.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

The Damage Done (7") - Sisters of Mercy

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

unfortunately it would probably have to be the five copies of Coldplay's brothers & sisters 7" that I came upon for a tenner all in....

sorry, we did say collectable records, not actual good ones, right?

PS - anyone want to buy one? Awww, c'mon....

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

probs HOTS 'Black Dollar Bills', or the new Sennen demo(probs bout 100 copies done, and not on sale to public)
or Kasabians 'Processed Beats' (i was intrigued by the cardboard case', i dont like em...honest :)

the first demo of lyca sleeps 'sold me a ride' will probs be worth a lot when they get bigger too

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I have some Smashing Pumpkins vinyls and box-sets that sell hundreds in Japan.

Is there where we find out you are a hacker burglar who is building a shopping list of who has what?

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

i have a 12inch blue vinyl of Panic -mmm

and a cd of glass onion which, apparently, is worth hundreds - sadly it's not mine but i can't remember who i borrowed it off and i wouldn't feel right selling it, even though it's shit.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

Hmmm... I think I got rid of most of my collectable stuff, the Oasis demo tape went years ago. Are the following collectible?

Bluetones - Are You Blue or Are You Blind? 12"

Six by Seven - European Me 12"

All the Tortoise remix 12" from Millions Now Living..., people like Luke Vibert etc.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

ISIS - Maritime blue vinyl 12". got a rather good remix by mike patton...tasty. All i need now is a deck to play it on

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

it may be clear actually. sounds the same whatever colour though. unless . . .

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

My Mugstar album. Only 50 copies ever. Although saying that, there would have to be people who've heard of them to make it collectable. But it's a brilliant album.

Aside from that, um, I have some valuable vinyls and such, but only mefs would want to buy them. Which is why I want to sell them.

My favourite record I've got is my Cabaret Voltaire live at the YMCA record, but it's neither valuable or collectable.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

changed my mind...

its actually a 7" of jonathan king's great 80s hit "It's illegal, it's immoral, it's unhealthy, but it's fun"

what a find THAT was...

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

The crackheads got my DJ picture disc, but I still got an original Man Who Sold the World (Bowie in the Mr Fish dress) on vinyl. Here's the irony: I also had the first US issue of MWSTW which was a cartoon cover, then the subsequent RCA release with Ziggy on the cover. The cartoon cover had some value because there were so few of them; now it's probably more valuable than the original I spent months tracking down. The advent of CDs brought back the original cover, so the MWSTW original I paid hundreds for in 1980 is probably not worth much now.

Also had some very cool Bowie bootlegs including Ziggy at the Santa Monica Civic, ChangesThree, Slaughter In the Air. The only one left from the years intervening hurricanes and floods and so forth is Live In Stockholm (also on vinyl).

Doncha think CDs have taken some of the fun outta collectables? I'll bet Mr Cadd and Creakyknees think so. I do.

Course I've got a lot more music now. So I'm not complaining. I like CDs. Just think there's a little of the romance missing since the (semi-)passing of vinyl.

Hey. I noticed some of my old punk stuff is still around. Like I've got the Buzzcocks' Raison D'etre single (with the great B-side You Say You Don't Love Me), Nine Nine Nine etc on vinyl. Those worth anything?

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

the early slayer albums on vinyl (the first two to be exact) are probably the most collectable in the sense that more than about 50 people might want them...

in the sense that less than 50 ppl would like to collect them .... promos of british rock bands from the 2000s

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

hmmm dunno ifs its collectable but i'd assume its worth a tiny bit
pink floyd - dark side of the moon: on origonal vinyl, mint condition

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

Scatman's World - Scatman John, mint condition.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

not mine but my dad has a Rush album, A Farewell To Kings, i think from the late 70s. Original, and it plays the same both sides...

i imagine that to be pretty collectable.

and why is there no rush profile on DiS, theyre a damn important and pretty huge band...

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

Just as there is no Cream...

... but there happens to be 'fast food rockers', 'steps', 'westlife'.... you get the point.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I'm sure they will be added at some point.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I've got a copy of The Fall-Wake Up In The City as a bside with an acoustic Rude (All The Time) as the aside. Apparently this was a run of 2000 or less. The guy who ran the label it was released on told me he was getting abusive home phonecalls from disgruntled Fall completists.

I've got lots of old punk/new wave/hardcore singles and albums, some probably worth a few quid.

Most I've paid for a record is £23 for a vinyl original of Frank Zappa/Mothers-Cruising With Ruben And The Jets album.

I still think vinyl has a fuller sound than cd, especially if I run it through the DAC on my cdr, but once you get a good system the high end clarity of cds is good.

I've never went for the whole collectable thing, anything I've got which is collectable is by chance.

Anyone want to buy a picture cover original of the Sex Pistols-Holidays In The Sun ;-)

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

It's a different version of Wake Up In The City to the album one.

£250

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I agree - Rush are of HUGE fucking importance.

Get a move on, DiS.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

reign in blood by slayer on vinyl, signed by the band at the time...
first 3 idlewild singles on vinyl...
neil young on the beach and time fades away on vinyl, still wrapped in plastic...
mint condition vinyl copy of transformer bought on the day it came out...

Jamie

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I've got original Sgt Peppers in mono and stereo, quite sad really.

Does your Reign In Blood have the inner lyric sleeve ?. Mines does and someone said they're quite rare here, bollocks probably.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

uh yeh think so, dont have it here right now.
i know someone with beatles original butcher cover and a sleeve of the original smile (no record of course). the bastard.

Jamie

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

speaking of the Beatles butcher cover, I found an american messageboard, where a guy had happily posted pictures of three!!!! Butcher covers he'd added to with psychedelic felt tip drawings.

Even as a confirmed Beatles disliker, I had to give him a mouthful of sick abuse.

I mean, sure it isn't ACTUALLY rare- some figure in the high thousands escaped- like 80 000 or something, but there are enough people out there who want a copy....to mean he may as well have been burning bundles of tenners

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I have orignal numbered vinyl of every Beatles Album/most singles, each one bought on the day of release.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I know what yer saying mr cadd about not being into 'collectables' per se. Yeah, me too. I was just thinking that certain vinyl records were like friends, a quality that the digital age sorta sanitized. Course maybe that was just part of youth, I dunno.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I know what you mean, a lot of mine I can remember where and when I bought them two decades ago. A favourite is a Chaos UK album (brit hardcore punk) that I saw in the citycentre Virgin. Didn't have any money so went and stood outside and asked passers by for 10p. Got enough for the album, a fish supper and the bus home. Was meant to be at school at the time. Happy days.

Of course anyone who asks me for money is a workshy layabout scrounging parasite, just my type of person.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

i can remember when and where i bought about 99% of all the records i own, going back to the great escape when i was 11.

Jamie

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I've spent a good sum of money on old Radiohead singles recently. I'm saving up to buy the 'Drill' EP cause I'm just that awsome.

For more recent things, I own a couple of complete Interpol 7" Antics box sets, and an original pressing of YMSS' 'Hurrah!'.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

The Vines - Factory 7"
Kings of Leon - Holy Roller Novacaine Red Vinyl 10"
Badly Drawn Boy - EP 3 7"

Aphex Twin - Windowlicker 12" (Is that collectable?)
Squarepusher - Untitled 12" one sided single (Again, is that collectable? Whatever, it fucking rules!)
Libertines - What a Waster 7"

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

Signed Youth and Young Manhood, signed Aha Shake Heartbreak and for my 30th birthday my bro gave me the Holy Roler Novocaine EP - also signed.

I also have 2 signed Ben Kweller albums and Willy Mason signed my EP not too long ago aswell.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I have, as collectables go:

The White Stripes "Death at 6.14" red 7' given away free with MoJo giveaway - only 100 made.

Amen "California's Bleeding" pink 7', only 100 made and only available on a first come first receive basis in some mag.

Manics "Lipstick Traces" - the original 12' vinyl from yonks ago, not the Traces that was released last year.

Beatles "Strawberry Fields Forever" a first edition 7'

Frankenstein Drag Queens - couple of early 7's only available from going to a gig

Slipknot "Mate Kill Feed Repeat" CD of the actual first album they did, but before they became a 9 piece.

Have a few more but mind is running on empty today....I may be back

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

cable - when animlas attack album promo. each cover has a thin aluminium plate bitten in to by one of the band members.

though its probably worth fuck all.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

Cool! I would like to see this sometime Daniel (although I may have seen it already but just forgotten...)

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I have a copy of Keith Chegwins Worst songs in the world ever on cd. What makes it worth more on ebay is that it has some of his alcohol induced vomit on it.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

ooh,
i have a rare slint 7 inch, which is Albini recorded versions of Glenn and Rhoda off the 10 inch, of which there are not many copies. probably not worth much..
And I have original 12" test pressings of, 'downlift the uptrodden' by Cable and 'Betty' by Helmet, which were never released on 12 inch. And limited edition promo copies of the first 3 ramones albums.. rare, but i don't know about valuable.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I have reservations about posting on this thread because it feels like a "Look how cool I am, I have rare records" which isn't really very cool is it...

but I can't resist becasue I am weak.

I also have the original Peter Saville-designed 12" Blue Monday with the silver inner sleeve (1st edition)
I own the 12" of Interpol's FUKD ID EP on Chemikal Underground.
I have number 666 of YMSS's "Hurrah!..." which pleases me very much - not rare as such, although as it's the only one with the number of the beast, it is unique and makes me very happy!

That's probably the best I can do.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I once paid $100 for a park ave. (oberst on drums/vocals) cd of ebay only for it to be reissued (for $10) the following week.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I own Queen of the Troubled Teens & Chandelier by Idlewild. I think that's all.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

Oooh, I have Queen of the Troubled Teens as well. Let's start a clique!

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

Kleeb; Windowlicker is still available in HMV, I think.

This is harder to find:

http://www.discogs.com/release/32807

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

How could I possibly forget my Tracy Ullman picture disc.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

Muse- 2 independently released eps limited to 999 copies, both signed. They were released before they got a proper deal. Managed to get hold of them cos I grew up near em.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I wasn't going to post, but I too am weak. Still, all of my 'rare' records will not now fetch any money, because they're all dodgy 7" singles from the Britpop era. Anyone want to buy the first Menswe@r single?! Elastica? Bluetones? Bis? Shed Seven?!

I do have 'Shakermaker' by Oasis on 12" promo that (according to Record Collector) is worth up to £150. Other than that...loads of promo albums that might be worth something ('Final Straw' in some fancy white box thing, loads of slipcases, both Bright Eyes albums)

Swallow by Sleeper 12" promo.
And Middleman by Terrorvision on copper-coloured 12". Ahem.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I have some records that aren't collectable yet...but might one day: Death From Above 1979 "Blood On Our Hands" on red and black vinyl plus hand-numbered picturedisc from before they added the 1979, woooo. And a nice promo of the first UNKLE album on cd with completely different artwork from when it was officially released.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I have absolutely nothing collectible.

I feel somehow inferior.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

Radiohead - I have all the singles from the first three albums, all bought on day of release.

Six By Seven - All the singles bar European Me, and my copy of the first album is signed by all 5 members.

dEUS - in a bar under the sea, signed by Tom Barman. And all the singles except Zea.

Motley Crue - girls girls girls and theatre of pain on original vinyl.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

i've got dEUS' Zea EP - the jack and jonny one, bought it from eil.com a few years back for a fiver!!

madness

thinking of selling it actually, one of the re-issues went for £170 on ebay!

also got a normal and promo version of Muse - Muscle Museum EP

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I'm keeping my eyes on the new Arcade Fire single, limited edition 3 inch CD with gold leaf lettering, reckon I'll keep it in the loft and bring it out for Antiques RoadShow in a few years!

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

Only started buying cds/records recently so nothing old or that rare

Killers: Mr Brightiside EP from 2003
Kaiser Chiefs: Oh My God (DIS release)
Radiohead: Creep 4 track

..(except that my dad's got loads of old orginal bob marly LP's and singles they might worth something...)

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

hope of the states ... limited tour bsides album
newcastle university gig ... copy 001

someone must be interested in something like that

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

tons of promos and some signed cds that probably aren't worth much.

Disco Inferno - Summer's Last Sound (12" and cd single - both virtually impossible to find)

if i had some kind of record guide i'm sure a have a couple of vinyls that are worth something.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

The Libertines- What A Waster 7" (going for £26 on ebay i saw today)
M.I.A.-Hombre 12"(white label, handpainted artwork by M.I.A. herself and only 500 made- yay!)

plus loads of randoms from the 90's- first secret My Vitriol single on Org recods (doubt very collectable though!), first Bis 7", and so on....

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

Keane's Fierce Panda release of Everybody's Changing I think, sadly enough.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

In my 7inch collection i have...
Queen of the Troubled Teens - Idlewild
Summer - Mogwai
Mogwai/ Dweeb split single
The Strokes - The Modern Age (rough trade)

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

The only remotely collectable record I own is Kid A by Radiohead with the booklet under the CD case.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

Not much really, but I do have the first release of Keane's This Is The Last Time and Subhuman by Garbage. Both worth a bit (but not a lot), according to E-Bay and Amazon.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I've got a copy of Absolution with a tracklisting mistake on the back. Apparently there were only about 200 made and the record did sell something like 1 and a bit million over here. Off the topic a bit, I have a PAL version Sega Genesis. Which is like the American version of the MegaDrive. Thats worth a few bob.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

why on earth is there a PAL genesis ?
surely the genesis were all NTSC ???

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

Megadrive was the European name for Genesis. Unless it was converted, or was some kind of test model.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I have checked and apparently they existed for a few months before they were changed to the MegaDrive 2 which was a Genesis with red buttons.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

but did it still have Phil Collins?

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

Erm I think that all of the copies of Absolution sold in the first week or so (of both versions even) had that mistake! Although I suppose 50,000 out of millions still isn't THAT much.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

Ooh I have the Darkness Christmas single promo with special Darkness wrapping paper and a ccard from the band. Does that count? Could be worth something one day.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

You should burn it all immediately.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

Hm. The Darkness suffered the most fierce backlash ever, huh? I don't get it really. They are just funny, pantomime stadium rock with humour. At least they have a sense of fun. There are much more offensively shit bands out there.

Re: Most collectable record in your collection…

I have the 12" "You Made Me Realise" EP by My Bloody Valentine, i guess that's fairly scarce these days.

I've also got the "Planet Of Sound" 12" by the Pixies - no idea if this is collectable really.
