probs HOTS 'Black Dollar Bills', or the new Sennen demo(probs bout 100 copies done, and not on sale to public)
or Kasabians 'Processed Beats' (i was intrigued by the cardboard case', i dont like em...honest :)
the first demo of lyca sleeps 'sold me a ride' will probs be worth a lot when they get bigger too
and a cd of glass onion which, apparently, is worth hundreds - sadly it's not mine but i can't remember who i borrowed it off and i wouldn't feel right selling it, even though it's shit.
My Mugstar album. Only 50 copies ever. Although saying that, there would have to be people who've heard of them to make it collectable. But it's a brilliant album.
Aside from that, um, I have some valuable vinyls and such, but only mefs would want to buy them. Which is why I want to sell them.
My favourite record I've got is my Cabaret Voltaire live at the YMCA record, but it's neither valuable or collectable.
The crackheads got my DJ picture disc, but I still got an original Man Who Sold the World (Bowie in the Mr Fish dress) on vinyl. Here's the irony: I also had the first US issue of MWSTW which was a cartoon cover, then the subsequent RCA release with Ziggy on the cover. The cartoon cover had some value because there were so few of them; now it's probably more valuable than the original I spent months tracking down. The advent of CDs brought back the original cover, so the MWSTW original I paid hundreds for in 1980 is probably not worth much now.
Also had some very cool Bowie bootlegs including Ziggy at the Santa Monica Civic, ChangesThree, Slaughter In the Air. The only one left from the years intervening hurricanes and floods and so forth is Live In Stockholm (also on vinyl).
Doncha think CDs have taken some of the fun outta collectables? I'll bet Mr Cadd and Creakyknees think so. I do.
Course I've got a lot more music now. So I'm not complaining. I like CDs. Just think there's a little of the romance missing since the (semi-)passing of vinyl.
Hey. I noticed some of my old punk stuff is still around. Like I've got the Buzzcocks' Raison D'etre single (with the great B-side You Say You Don't Love Me), Nine Nine Nine etc on vinyl. Those worth anything?
the early slayer albums on vinyl (the first two to be exact) are probably the most collectable in the sense that more than about 50 people might want them...
in the sense that less than 50 ppl would like to collect them .... promos of british rock bands from the 2000s
I've got a copy of The Fall-Wake Up In The City as a bside with an acoustic Rude (All The Time) as the aside. Apparently this was a run of 2000 or less. The guy who ran the label it was released on told me he was getting abusive home phonecalls from disgruntled Fall completists.
I've got lots of old punk/new wave/hardcore singles and albums, some probably worth a few quid.
Most I've paid for a record is £23 for a vinyl original of Frank Zappa/Mothers-Cruising With Ruben And The Jets album.
I still think vinyl has a fuller sound than cd, especially if I run it through the DAC on my cdr, but once you get a good system the high end clarity of cds is good.
I've never went for the whole collectable thing, anything I've got which is collectable is by chance.
Anyone want to buy a picture cover original of the Sex Pistols-Holidays In The Sun ;-)
reign in blood by slayer on vinyl, signed by the band at the time...
first 3 idlewild singles on vinyl...
neil young on the beach and time fades away on vinyl, still wrapped in plastic...
mint condition vinyl copy of transformer bought on the day it came out...
uh yeh think so, dont have it here right now.
i know someone with beatles original butcher cover and a sleeve of the original smile (no record of course). the bastard.
speaking of the Beatles butcher cover, I found an american messageboard, where a guy had happily posted pictures of three!!!! Butcher covers he'd added to with psychedelic felt tip drawings.
Even as a confirmed Beatles disliker, I had to give him a mouthful of sick abuse.
I mean, sure it isn't ACTUALLY rare- some figure in the high thousands escaped- like 80 000 or something, but there are enough people out there who want a copy....to mean he may as well have been burning bundles of tenners
I know what yer saying mr cadd about not being into 'collectables' per se. Yeah, me too. I was just thinking that certain vinyl records were like friends, a quality that the digital age sorta sanitized. Course maybe that was just part of youth, I dunno.
I know what you mean, a lot of mine I can remember where and when I bought them two decades ago. A favourite is a Chaos UK album (brit hardcore punk) that I saw in the citycentre Virgin. Didn't have any money so went and stood outside and asked passers by for 10p. Got enough for the album, a fish supper and the bus home. Was meant to be at school at the time. Happy days.
Of course anyone who asks me for money is a workshy layabout scrounging parasite, just my type of person.
The Vines - Factory 7"
Kings of Leon - Holy Roller Novacaine Red Vinyl 10"
Badly Drawn Boy - EP 3 7"
The Smiths - This Charming Man 12"
Arcade Fire - EP (Signed by Win Butler)
Aphex Twin - Windowlicker 12" (Is that collectable?)
Squarepusher - Untitled 12" one sided single (Again, is that collectable? Whatever, it fucking rules!)
Libertines - What a Waster 7"
I have a copy of Keith Chegwins Worst songs in the world ever on cd. What makes it worth more on ebay is that it has some of his alcohol induced vomit on it.
ooh,
i have a rare slint 7 inch, which is Albini recorded versions of Glenn and Rhoda off the 10 inch, of which there are not many copies. probably not worth much..
And I have original 12" test pressings of, 'downlift the uptrodden' by Cable and 'Betty' by Helmet, which were never released on 12 inch. And limited edition promo copies of the first 3 ramones albums.. rare, but i don't know about valuable.
I have reservations about posting on this thread because it feels like a "Look how cool I am, I have rare records" which isn't really very cool is it...
but I can't resist becasue I am weak.
I also have the original Peter Saville-designed 12" Blue Monday with the silver inner sleeve (1st edition)
I own the 12" of Interpol's FUKD ID EP on Chemikal Underground.
I have number 666 of YMSS's "Hurrah!..." which pleases me very much - not rare as such, although as it's the only one with the number of the beast, it is unique and makes me very happy!
Muse- 2 independently released eps limited to 999 copies, both signed. They were released before they got a proper deal. Managed to get hold of them cos I grew up near em.
I wasn't going to post, but I too am weak. Still, all of my 'rare' records will not now fetch any money, because they're all dodgy 7" singles from the Britpop era. Anyone want to buy the first Menswe@r single?! Elastica? Bluetones? Bis? Shed Seven?!
I do have 'Shakermaker' by Oasis on 12" promo that (according to Record Collector) is worth up to £150. Other than that...loads of promo albums that might be worth something ('Final Straw' in some fancy white box thing, loads of slipcases, both Bright Eyes albums)
Swallow by Sleeper 12" promo.
And Middleman by Terrorvision on copper-coloured 12". Ahem.
I have some records that aren't collectable yet...but might one day: Death From Above 1979 "Blood On Our Hands" on red and black vinyl plus hand-numbered picturedisc from before they added the 1979, woooo. And a nice promo of the first UNKLE album on cd with completely different artwork from when it was officially released.
I'm keeping my eyes on the new Arcade Fire single, limited edition 3 inch CD with gold leaf lettering, reckon I'll keep it in the loft and bring it out for Antiques RoadShow in a few years!
The Libertines- What A Waster 7" (going for £26 on ebay i saw today)
M.I.A.-Hombre 12"(white label, handpainted artwork by M.I.A. herself and only 500 made- yay!)
plus loads of randoms from the 90's- first secret My Vitriol single on Org recods (doubt very collectable though!), first Bis 7", and so on....
In my 7inch collection i have...
Queen of the Troubled Teens - Idlewild
Summer - Mogwai
Mogwai/ Dweeb split single
The Strokes - The Modern Age (rough trade)
Not much really, but I do have the first release of Keane's This Is The Last Time and Subhuman by Garbage. Both worth a bit (but not a lot), according to E-Bay and Amazon.
I've got a copy of Absolution with a tracklisting mistake on the back. Apparently there were only about 200 made and the record did sell something like 1 and a bit million over here. Off the topic a bit, I have a PAL version Sega Genesis. Which is like the American version of the MegaDrive. Thats worth a few bob.
Erm I think that all of the copies of Absolution sold in the first week or so (of both versions even) had that mistake! Although I suppose 50,000 out of millions still isn't THAT much.
Ooh I have the Darkness Christmas single promo with special Darkness wrapping paper and a ccard from the band. Does that count? Could be worth something one day.
Hm. The Darkness suffered the most fierce backlash ever, huh? I don't get it really. They are just funny, pantomime stadium rock with humour. At least they have a sense of fun. There are much more offensively shit bands out there.
