I love you... finally someone who choses kaisers over bloc, i thought i was the only one... Yes so best album... shit does it have to be of 2005??? i dont no any AHHHHHHHHHH im going to explode
You have forgotten the two MOST IMPORTANT saviours of music: stereophonics and feeder .....why the fuck is the music press wanking all over the stereophonics new album it is still rubbish, if they want to wank over something than at least choose a kelly brook poster AND (to continue rant) what the fuck are little spotty oinks doing voting wayne rooney's g/f in the top 25 sexist women of fhm...must be true; too much wanking must make you go blind
brand new...so, you replied to a kaiser post with ' it's nice that some music is fun and doesn't make you think' type of mantra. fair enough, but now you're saying that it's your favourite album of the year so far!! god help us. surely the best album has to have stronger characteristics than simply being 'fun'.
my vote: 'The Band' by 'The Band' technically a few years out of date, but i'm listening to it right now, and expect i'll still be listening to it in twenty years, something i can safely say won't be happening to the chiefs. and yes, The Band is fun!
is it really that good? I heard it wasn't as good as Shivering King..., which I didn't think was as good as Howls from the Hills which I didn't like as much as Dead Meadow. They smoke too much, their records are getting slower and slower.
yeah mars volta, thought id get alot of feebk on that, i havnt heard it yet but am lookin forward to it. got the phonics album due to curiosity, actually not that bad suprisingly!
well sed bazaz, first gig i ever went to, stereophonics supported by feeder in 2001, always hav a special place in my heart, tho i didnt bother with the new feeder album, went for athlete instead. how is it?
even though i bought it when it came out last year in america, its hands down the arcade fire album...mars volta is a letdown as was the show at brixton...kaiser chiefs is not worth the effort, bloc party is good but not mindblowing...i'm hoping that the new fantomas and eels albums will improve my opinions of this year so far...
compared to some of the recent letdowns it deserves to be the best album of last year AND this year.
anyone know if pixies are actually gonna bother doing a new record?
anyone heard anything about new records from evan dando or A.C. Newman? hopefully we'll get some new sonic youth soon too. or if not apparently there's a reissue fo goo coming out whcih if its anything like the dirty reissue should be pretty great. also heard a reissue of young americans is coming out in a month or two, wouldnt mind picking that up...
sorry i'm just typing stream of consciousness now...thats what drinking midori will do for you. bad combination of too much sugar+alcohol+internet...
is the kaiser cheifs any good? i'm going to see them in april but i think they're a bit shit except for i predict a riot cos i can jump around rooms to it.
I lobe them, am gonna see them in may... you can jump around the room like crazy pregnant ladies to basically everyone of their songs : D Download nananana
Yep, Bloc Party definitely orgasmic. I can see the Kaisers sticking around like the way The Bluetones have releasing a few decent singles but poor albums.
Bloc Party are just so arty and are doing it for the alternatives. Kaiser Chiefs are great to dance to, but just don't get me as excited as Bloc Party.
yeah. the kaisers are a FANTASTIC singles band, but the record is just irritating and cute in all the wrong ways.
i think bloc party are quite capable of being around successfully for a long time if they play it right. they've got substance and honesty and know how to write a killer pop tune without sacrificing everything on the altar of commercial novelty.
Mercury Rev. Hmm. I'm gonna have to check 'em out for myself. Their name pops up often enough for me to feel foolish for never having heard them. Same with Biffy, actually.
Since Worlds Apart is only record I can think of that came out this year... that I've bought... I'll pick World's Apart. I'll say it again: Pitchfork ain't always right. ST&C would be a pretty tough act to follow, eh?!
(I bought the Fire's Funeral last year; and though I am still a big fan there are some weak tracks and it really hasn't grown on me the way I thought it might. Was an A-, now it's a B+.)
When I did mine I wasn't counting Funeral as 2005 since I included it on my top ten of 2004. It would definitely be 1 or 2 on my 2005 list at the moment.
Frances the Mute is brilliant and Bright Eyes but I can't decide which album. I'm sure NME=BASTARDS would like me to say Digital Ash.... but I'm Wide Awake..... is equally compelling.
The Ministry of Sound Mash Up Mix is fun. Lots of Pistols style neon colours.

so far
Wind in the wires
Silent Alarm
Frances the Mute
And Give Up by the Postal Service ( I know it's been out for ages but i'm slow and only got it recently and have been listening to it loads and loads and loads)
Redjetson- New General Catalogue
Dark, difficult, brooding and very, very beautiful.
Mercury Rev- The Secret Migration
Not their best, but 5 or 6 corking tracks. Worth the money just for Vermillion.
Red Sparowes- At The Soundless Dawn
Massive and moving.
Silver Mt.Zion- Horses In The Sky
Challenging in the extreme, but well worth it. Eastern European folk, campfire songs and fantastic Godspeed-y guitar freakouts.
Souvaris- I Felt Nothing At All
Was this this year? If it was, it can't be overlooked. Gorgeous, gorgeous instrumental music that trips along. Makes me feel like getting on the train and travelling for miles.
QOTSA - just as you think you've figured it out, something else comes out and grabs you by the nads
Bloc Party (sorry for being obvious)- just a top, british album
Mors Principium Est - The Unborn - Not out for a few weeks, but has been rocking my shack constantly since i got the promo through - kinda like Killswitch but bigger and darker
Idlewild - consistently ace band, just in different ways
Open Hand - The album most people thought Josh Homme would come up with after SFTD
as for Frances The Mute, the first three tracks are spellbinding, after that the wandering bridges between songs make me lose the will to be open.
also albums by...arcade fire, gratitude, bloc party and willy mason.
but im sure willy mason and arcade fires records have been around since the autumn.

I'm intrigued by Patrick Wolf, yet equally scared to buy. Any MP3's anywhere?

The Marmaduke Duke sounds good so far, and naturally, Bloc Party is up there.
I'm wetting myself over the prospect of new albums by The Robocop Kraus and Pat Clafferty, too :)
