Read all about it: Prince album free in Daily Mail

Artists: Prince

Prince is giving away his new album Planet Earth in The Daily Mail, much to the chagrin of fed-up retail bosses.

The record, set for general release on July 24, will first be made available through an 'imminent' edition of the evil newspaper.

But the Entertainment Retailers Association have slammed (good word that) the decision, complaining of the 'covermount culture' gnawing away at the foundations of recorded music, or something. Honestly, you can have a culture for anything nowadays, can’t you?

ERA co-chairman Paul Quirk said: "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince should know that with behaviour like this he will soon be the Artist Formerly Available in Record Stores. And I say that to all the other artists who may be tempted to dally with the Mail on Sunday."

HMV chief executive Simon Fox was also mightily miffed, saying: "I think it would be absolutely nuts. I can't believe the music industry would do it to itself.

“I simply can't believe it would happen, it would be absolute madness."

More to the point – Prince? The Dailyfuckingmail? Is nothing sacred?

I love Prince

But he'd have to leap out of the 'paper himself, suck me off, put £20K in my hand and give me a pet hedgehog before I buy the Daily Mail.

meh

its easier to take the cd out of the newspaper cover. neither the shopkeeper nor the eventual purchaser lose money as they'd get a replacement

Or just wait till

it's out properly.

I only just read the article properly.

how off putting

I wont be able to not dismiss this as an off the paper piece of tripe now because its free.

is this the album

that is being given to attendees of his concert too?

yes

This is worse than

McCartney in Starbucks. At least find yourself a better newspaper. London lite or even the star is preferable to the daily heil.

!

I had no idea anyone else called it the Daily Heil.

Julie Burchill...

...often calls it the Daily Heil so I imagine lots of Guardian/Times readers do too!

I can't believe HMV would do it to itself...

and this coming from the man whose company's profits are down 73% this year. rotflmao. I suggest he read "The Record Industry's Decline" on rolling stone. mr fox, you did it to youself, not a man with no name.

I doubt it will be a newspaper 'insert'

I suspect it will be a token thing, or you have to send off for it.

So you won't even be able to steal it from the Mail. You'll have to open the thing and read the pages.

urgh.

I soon expect to see Prince fans with banners

linching alleged paedophiles, protesing against mobile phone masts and refusing to let their children have the MMR vaccine.

the LP will probably be a bag of shite anyway

so who gives a fuck really

It will feature such Prince classics as

U Got The Look (of an asylum seeker)and
Purple Rain (is damaging house prices)

well

fuck them all. Fuck Prince for turning to the Daily Heil. Fuck the ERA co-chairman for being a sulky bastard. Presumably that'll be the day he doesn't buy the Heil.

Prince is a fucking idiot

i bet he chose the Mail because of their stance on Christian Moral Values. And being a Jehovah's Witless now that really appealed to him.

But for fuck's sake Prince, everyone knows the Mail is the worst paper in England. Jeez

I take comfort in my belief that this album will be painfully embarrassing, full of paeans to Our Lord and blubbing about settling down with some spiritual lady. I bet there's not even any freaky sex jams on it

everyone?

everyone in england knows that the Mail is a bag of tosh - Prince has probably only heard of the London Times (sic).

I like that the music retailer guy is so up to date he still thinks that Prince is still going under the <symbol> moniker.

Stand up for this madness

Go buy a copy in FOPP.

I meant 'stand up AGAINST this madness'

...and I wasn't very funny in the first place.

I'll have to go to the newsagents

dressed as osama bin laden or something...

it's probably just a filler album, all the Dome concerts are in support of 3121 it would seem. Still, a forty minute cosmic funk jam of prince is better than, er, a babyshambles cosmic funk jam- <abandon life>

Go buy a copy in FOPP...

you'll be lucky :o\

break in to one of the 105 deserted stores and steal a copy while the administrators twiddle their thumbs... maybe.

eurgh.

Okay, so i grew up learning about Prince. My dad lived one floor below him about 25 years ago. He had a body guard who had a pet monkey and was 7 feet tall blah blah blah. My *cough* mother is obsessed with him. He was probably trying to be all like "obscure" or something by going to the, quote, shittiest newspaper in england. pfft. I dont know. I'm just saying that he gets old.. and i'm personally not too put off at this. I could have figured. He became a sell out a while ago.

Been done before

This is nothing new - Supervinyls at Red91 did this a couple of weeks ago. They reckon they've never had so much interest since giving away their album.

'They'

meaning 'I'.

The P-Man has let me down here.

The Daily Mail is vile. I wonder if he's ever read it?
