Acclaimed Oxford label Big Scary Monsters is to release a new sampler later this year entitled Record Label Schmecord Label. LOLZ.

The compilation will feature a wealth of quality domestic talent, including a new track from upcoming post-punks Meet Me In St Louis (much-loved by DiS, and pictured just there) and Yndi Halda's epic 'We Flood Empty Lakes'. Also on show: House Of Brothers, Cats And Cats And Cats, Richard Walters, This Town Needs Guns, Itch and more...

The ten-tracker is available for pre-order now from the label's website here for just £4. Bargain. Pre-orders will be sent out later this month.

In related news, DiS is hosting a BSM-themed bash in September, in London; click here for the details.

heard about

MMISL when a local band played with them. Nice to hear they're doing well.

BSM are just fucking ace

Everything they touch is gold.

Their wee off-shoot Alcopop! is quirk and fun too, the 5th one in their 3" CD series arrived on Saturday. Such a sweet idea.

4 or 5 magicians

are number 6 in this series - expect that at the end of the month or beginning of next!

bsm

really doesn't excite me anymore. they've signed a whole load of boring acts in the past year. mmisl is the only good thing they have coming out in the near future. to be fair, mmisl is a very very very good thing.

Great, great label. Though I still remember how they started out doing a whole load of ska-punk. Or at least that's what I used to get in the post.

I think everyone went through the ska-punk stage. If you didn't, well done - you're clean.

It wasn't loads of ska

Just one compilation (from what I can remember) which had a few ska bands on there. However, said compilation also offered the first ever UK release of 'Letters To You' by Finch, which more than makes up for it, surely!

Thanks for all the nice words by the way, guys

I'm just thinking of

Duff Muffin. This was a long time ago anyway. I was more into straight ahead punk then.

I'd completely forgotten about them!

Think they're still going under a different name. Possibly working with Gravity? I don't know
