j mascis and the fog

wedgewood rooms

or part chimp

anywhere

Lightning bolt

at the Brudenell in Leeds or maybe Sunn0))) at the Cockpit.

Ouch

Napalm Death at

the Bradford Rio. Yowzer.

Dinosaur Jr

Birmingham Hummingbird. And J lent his guitar against the amp when walking off at the end. Cue a thousand people hastily making for the exit

Rocket From The Crypt

Manchester Academy 1995

eh? Pardon?

Akron / family

motorhead

i can remember having my senses thoroughly numbed by them on more than one occasion at newcastle city hall

Compulsion

years ago. Afterwards a friend was told by a doctor never to go to a live gig again, or he would risk totally losing his hearing.

wey

compulsion..fisrt ever mention on dis methinks

the guy from

Compulsion wrote Underground Ernie for CBBC. Rock!

nah

there was even threads about Compulsion a long time ago...

^^ True

No wai

I have mentioned Compulsion loads!

gotta be either

qotsa at the uni in manchester or surprisingly the prodigy at the apollo in manchester, i was deaf for weeks after both of them
oh and mogwai @ the L2 in liverpool

dino jr always loud

but i think that being on the front row for josh pearson in portsmouth last month has damaged my hearing quite a bit...

Mogwai at the Oxford Zodiac

we were right by the front as well which was a bit of a mistake. We got a set list though, oh and permanently damaged hearing most probably.

Atari Teenage Riot

Cambridge Junction, October 1999. Officially the loudest gig they've ever had there. My ears rang for a week.

i miss atari :(

i only got to see them twice, i did get my cds signed by them though :) plus we got a whole box of 'ice' cds after their night n day gig. they were cds of sum guy from godflesh's new band who supported

I've seen Alec Empire

And was standing right next to the speaker. You don't realise thats not a good idea when it's your first gig.

ATR any good then?

Fuck yes.

One of the greatest gigs I've seen, although it was the last tour they did and Carl Crack wasn't there as he'd tried to throw himself out of a plane a few days before. They set up his guitar onstage anyway, in his honour.

:D

i used to love atari teenage riot, that gig sounds ace

when i saw the mat night n day carl

crack jsut stood there twitchin with his hood up haha and then at reading he was jumping round like a maniac haha quite a contrast!

dinosaur jr at ATP

last year was pretty deafening.

As were Wolf Eyes!

Luckily I was wearing earplugs at ATP last year!

I agree

stupidly went twice. They sounded great but my ears were ringing for a week after. J turned all his settings to full when he walked onstage

Arcade Fire in Birmingham

Fuck Buttons last night
Some band at Artrocker

Ear shreddingly loud so you wince and think your hearing might be getting danaged.

liars @ curzon soho

seriously ouch

Mogwai

Lightning Bolt or Sunn probably.

Or that time at FWD when it was plasticians birthday so they cranked up the system to stupid levels. There was a point at which I thought i'd been blinded by bass.

Aids Wolf, 33 Anson Road, Manchester

Fuck me. They had all these huge amps and they played in someones living room, with everything turned up so high you couldn't even hear the drumkit. For days my hearing was distorted and fuzzy.

I left seeing Kittie at the Garage

with a sore ear for a week!

^

git request.
:(

someone else i know saw MBV when she was 16, and she's had tinnitus ever since.

Lightning Bolt at Hull Adelphi

i couldn't hear for 3 days afterwards

Lightning Bolt at the Luminare

I was litreally shaking on the bus afterwards

The Wildhearts (!) at Civic Wolverhampton

incredibly loud to the point where it was actually painful (probably the only gig my eardrums have truly hurt at)

Mogwai at the Zodiac many years ago was also horribly loud. I see someone else said this but I don't know if it was the same gig. This was Young Team era.

The Family Cat

and Mint 400 - Tunbridge Wells Forum. Was a warm up for Phoenix in 1993. I couldn't hear properly for two weeks thanks to the Family Cat's three guitar attack.

Doves

Brixton academy 2003 - ears rang for days... Played spaceface or whatever it was called from the sub sub days.very rave.

i mean 2002

.

hmm

probably Slowdive + Cranes at the Garage back in about 94

hehe

was an amazing show. so stupidly loud, ears ringing for days.

whitehouse with gindrinker and that fucking tank

in cardiff clwb ifor bach.
OR, lightning bolt at the point, in cardiff.
i couldn't hear properly for about four days after each.

was that the post-ATP

lightning bolt?

lolz yeah

they were both pretty loud, though aids wolf last december was even LOUDER. the worst is really loud snarey drumming like drumize :(

Josh T Pearson

I don't think he realised that he was only playing to 15 people in a venue the size of a small living room.

Wolf Eyes at the Electric Ballroom supporting Lightning Bolt. My ears were actually hurting and people were turning away from the stage covering their ears.

Sunn O))) didn't seem that loud whilst they were playing but for a couple of days afterwards my whole heard hurt

Black Dice

...at the Wheatsheaf in Oxford. Even with ear plugs at the back of the room it was still painful!

I was there!

I was near the fron and it wasn't that loud. One of the weirdest nights of my life though...

*front

.

Looks like

Lightning Bolt wins!

consumer electronics

wolf eyes followed and sounded kinda tame in comparison

bloc party

at the pompey guildhall in 2005. had ringing ears for 2 weeks after that.

and then of course theres lightning bolt! the only band i wear ear plugs for..

Comets On Fire, I think

Last year sometime.

i had tinitus for a month in my left ear after seeing Mogwai

in the anson rooms, bristol in 2001. i stood right near the stack... very very foolish

my tinnitus became

permanent after watching blood brothers...but i think i had an ear infection at the time :(

swans

liverpool planet x
my god!!!!!!!!!!!

wolf eyes

comes pretty close though
1000 people with their fingers in ears

anything at plymouth pavillions

their sound sucks so badly!

Swans, without a doubt.

Although if it was 87ish, it wasn't planet x. I seem to remember it was a club on Bold Street. The bar staff wore ear defenders.

sunn0)))

dino jr.

soundgarden (also the hottest gig, ew sweaty men...)

The Blood Brothers

at Bristol Fleece. I've had permanent tinnitus ever since.

Judas Priest

Hammersmith Apollo, 2005. They truly are the metal gods.

the first show I worked

at hammersmith apollo was Motorhead; had and still have never heard anything louder. My ears hurt so much that night.

I was officially diagnosed

with tinitus last year, this thread has reminded me that it was probably thr Priest gig that finally did it. Wear your ear plugs kids, sod looking cool. I'll be the old bloke at the LIARS gig tonight with the fluorescent sponge in my ears.

NOXAQT

missed the start of the set. Walking into the venue was like being hit in the ear with a sledge-hammer.

probably a draw

lightning bolt @ luminaire = pelican @ underword = part chimp, always

The Bronx @ the Kerrang Tour back in Jan

like a wall of noise.

Mighty Mighty Bosstones a few years ago, damaged the hearing in my right ear.

Will Haven @ Newcastle Riverside, 1998

Supporting Deftones. I very nearly was, Tones.

I was there

Seeing The Deftones in such a small venue just gives me goosepimples thinking about it.God I miss the Riverside.Saw Smashing Pumpkins there.Tremendous.

You don't want to hear my backstage story, then

That night was heavy, not least for the fucking evil pit: there were hardcore nutter guys there who dwarfed me (I'm 6') and were properly kicking the shit out of the little metallers, pulling piercings out etc. It was ugly!

Really?

I stood to the far right of stage with pint.Thats bad shit that is

Tell me about it

I had long hair at the time and suddenly feared for my own safety!

mogwai

anywhere

most notably at cabaret voltaire.

trail of dead on a couple of occasions too, particularly the first time I saw them in 2000.

.

Lightning Bolt and MBV.

Although at MBV you could actually make out tunes and stuff so it wasn't as obvious that you'd be deaf the next day.

Cabaret Voltaire?

Hmm. That's going way back. I saw them too... but I don't remember them loud; I'm not saying they weren't just that I don't remember.

PS When I saw MBV it was with Dino jr. There was permanent damage fer sure.

whoops

methinks you guys must have a club named Cabaret Volaire. I get it.

yup we do

sorry!

Mylo-udest ever gig

was Mylo at Benicassim. I could feel my ribs cracking every time the bass pounded. And boy, the bass pounded far too often.

Incidentally, believe it or not, my quietest ever gig was Motorhead, Queens Of The Stone Age and Foo Fighters in Hyde Park last summer.

mogwai

at the junction in cambridge last year. the dynamics in like herod were off the hook.

I was at that gig.

I actually wish that 'Hunted by a freak' was a bit louder.

Lightning Bolt at The Garage

damn you low ceiling!

also: Wolf Eyes at ATP last year and Prurient at the Luminaire (not that loud i guess but he enjoys his high frequencies so it physically hurt)

yeah Noxagt

at the Garage did my ears in, and i had earplugs in

also Unsane at the Underworld, and Mastodon at Roskilde 2005, it was unbearable even with yee old earplugs in

urgh

i was at that gig, indeed it was one of the harshest things my ears have been exposed to!

urgh

i was at that gig, indeed it was one of the harshest things my ears have been exposed to!

Hmmm... I'm not sure

but The Sunshine Republic at The Portland Arms the other week would be one of them. Fuck, they were relentless.

The support act at Cargo for Black Strobe three weeks ago

thought I was going to vomit and had to leave the room.

Part Chimp

were very very very loud at Barden's Boudoir last year but that place is often a cavernous nuisance to my poor little ears.

Muse at Wembley Stadium

coupla weeks ago.
Was right next to the stage though.

Probably Muse at Earls Court :|

What are Lightning Bolt like? Would I like them?

Amusement Parks on Fire

utter inner-ear trauma, they was shit
