i can remember having my senses thoroughly numbed by them on more than one occasion at newcastle city hall

years ago. Afterwards a friend was told by a doctor never to go to a live gig again, or he would risk totally losing his hearing.

oh and mogwai @ the L2 in liverpool

but i think that being on the front row for josh pearson in portsmouth last month has damaged my hearing quite a bit...

we were right by the front as well which was a bit of a mistake. We got a set list though, oh and permanently damaged hearing most probably.

last year was pretty deafening.

Or that time at FWD when it was plasticians birthday so they cranked up the system to stupid levels. There was a point at which I thought i'd been blinded by bass.

Fuck me. They had all these huge amps and they played in someones living room, with everything turned up so high you couldn't even hear the drumkit. For days my hearing was distorted and fuzzy.

incredibly loud to the point where it was actually painful (probably the only gig my eardrums have truly hurt at)

Mogwai at the Zodiac many years ago was also horribly loud. I see someone else said this but I don't know if it was the same gig. This was Young Team era.

I don't think he realised that he was only playing to 15 people in a venue the size of a small living room.

Wolf Eyes at the Electric Ballroom supporting Lightning Bolt. My ears were actually hurting and people were turning away from the stage covering their ears.

Sunn O))) didn't seem that loud whilst they were playing but for a couple of days afterwards my whole heard hurt

...at the Wheatsheaf in Oxford. Even with ear plugs at the back of the room it was still painful!

at the pompey guildhall in 2005. had ringing ears for 2 weeks after that.

missed the start of the set. Walking into the venue was like being hit in the ear with a sledge-hammer.

was Mylo at Benicassim. I could feel my ribs cracking every time the bass pounded. And boy, the bass pounded far too often.

Incidentally, believe it or not, my quietest ever gig was Motorhead, Queens Of The Stone Age and Foo Fighters in Hyde Park last summer.

were very very very loud at Barden's Boudoir last year but that place is often a cavernous nuisance to my poor little ears.
