With the Concert For Diana programmes only freshly tucked away, details surrounding the forthcoming Pixies tribute record appear to have developed somewhat, albeit without some of the names that were initially slated to contribute to the release. That said, I forget who those were.
Somewhat peculiarly, Laundromat Records have announced the list of twenty covers, only to state that around 14 or 15 of these will make Dig For Fire's final cut.
The list?
Bedroom Walls - 'Stormy Weather'
British Sea Power - 'Caribou'
Bunnies - 'Alec Eiffel'
Charles Douglas - 'Bone Machine'
David Miller - 'Manta Ray'
Dylan In The Movies - 'Down To The Well'
Elk City - 'Monkey Gone To Heaven'
Fashion Victims - 'Hey'
Joe Harvard Band - 'In Heaven (Everything Is Fine)'
John Strohm - 'Where Is My Mind?'
Joy Zipper - 'Wave of Mutilation'
Julie Peel - 'The Happening'
Knife and Fork (feat. E.D. Feldman) - 'Motorway To Roswell'
Mogwai - 'Gouge Away'
Morning Theft - 'Ana'
OK Go - 'Gigantic'
PC Munoz - 'I Bleed'
The Commons - 'Here Comes Your Man'
The Rosebuds - 'Break My Body'
They Might Be Giants - 'Havalina'
The release will include unique artwork, accompanying 7", badges and the chance to win an poster autographed by one of the acts, and should be available by November.
DiScuss: Choice pickings? Sea Power gets this vote. Would Kim Deal like OK Go?

Better than the pumpkins one then.
There's already like 4 Pixies tribute albums, isn't there?
Plus, OK Go doing Gigantic will sound like a shit version of the Reel Big Fish cover.
They shoudla got modest mouse
or at least just Isaac Brock to do this..... for numerous reassons
ne'er a Panic! in sight!
I'd love to hear Modest Mouse doing "The Holiday Song". It would be undoubtedly amazing
holy fuck
mogwai doing gouge away. brilliant
^^^
I second this.
If for any reason Laundromat decide not to put this on the final CD, I will have no choice but to kill somebody.
Sweet Jesus
There's a band called Dylan In The Movies?
i bet...
joy zipper doing 'wave of mutilation' will really work.
should be a good'un
joyzipper make me happy :)
Yeah ive already got a load of Japanese bands doing these covers
what more could i want. This sounds awful.
potd
win an poster
I'd like to hear the TMBG and Mogwai covers. Other than that, meh.
i misread that as Carl Douglas doing Bone Machine for a moment there
"And then he tried to molest me in the parking lot...it was a little bit frightening."
when i was at Hurricane Festival 2004
Modest Mouse clashed with The Pixies, so when MM finished a song, and you could "Debaser" blasting in the background , Issac said "i know where I'd rather be"
just a few notes...
* Dinosaur Jr/J Mascis was originally attached to this, but had to back out due to touring obligations. But that doesn't mean we won't have something special to announce instead.
* All these songs will be available on the limited edition CD, the standard edition will have 14 or 15 of these tracks.
* OK Go did a great job with Gigantic, and it sounds nothing like Reel Big Fish or their version.
* Mogwai's track is amazing.
* There is a real story behind each of these bands and why they are on board. Many of them have real Pixies connections, which I outlined on the Dig For Fire MySpace page.
* If you'd rather hear your japanese bands do Pixies songs, more power to you ...
Mark My Words...
This will be a steaming pile of shit apart from Mogwai.
I like
the headline.
down to the well
don't know dylan in the movies but interested in hearing how this song will be covered...
