Interpol .v. The Chameleons

I'm on a crusade to make Interpol fans aware of 'The Chameleons' (if they are not already). Take the time to listen to 'In Shreds' [1981] and their 1st album 'Script of the Bridge' [1983] and try and deny the similarities.

My reason for this is, I have read that Interpol claim to have never heard of The Chameleons. It's either a huge coincidence or they're in denial.

P.S. I like interpol

I've been listening to them a lot - 'What does anything mean? Basically'. I like Interpol too, a lot, but the first time I heard The Chameleons I did think 'Ah - so this is what Interpol are really influenced by'. And people think they sound like Joy Division!
    • Re: Interpol .v. The Chameleons

hell yes. Interpol definitely have sonic similarities to the Chameleons. For me though, Interpol write better songs so it's all good.
      • Re: Interpol .v. The Chameleons

you have to look at it contextually - imagine Interpol with a big drum 80s production and its a cigarette paper scenario - if you get my drift

both bands are good and interpol should admit they are inspired by them - am sure the editors apartment S (bad joke) etc won't have a bleedin' clue who they are though (unless their managers goes out and buys Script from the Bridge)
    • Re: Interpol .v. The Chameleons

yeah, I never got the Joy Division references either. I spose the closest comparison might be vocally.
      • Re: Interpol .v. The Chameleons

its not for marketing purposes as it is for the aforementioned bands who probably got into them after a mate got 24 Hour Pantry People out on DVD - I mean I wasnt there in 1976 choosing Barney's Shergold Masqurade guitar with him but I wouldnt pretend to like them to be vogue!
      • Re: Interpol .v. The Chameleons

I think 'roland' has a similar vibe to 'shadowplay'. And there is definitely a similarity in vocal styles. but not much else is there really...
        • Re: Interpol .v. The Chameleons

Actually yeah Roland is the only song I can see a similarity with Joy Division in.
  • Re: Interpol .v. The Chameleons

It's The Departure who REALLY want to hump The Chameleons so bad.
