The View are to record a cover of The Libertines’ classic (natch) single 'Don’t Look Back Into The Sun' for Radio One.
Keiren Webster, bassist with the Mercury-nominated band, said they were asked to cover a tune from after the turn of the century.
He explained: "We’re doing a Libertines track for Radio One. It’s for the fifty year anniversary. We got asked to do a cover from the early 2000s."
The incomprehensible Scot admitted the song was his favourite Libertines track, and also revealed that the band are already thinking about the follow-up to their number one debut album Hats Of To The Buskers.
"We’ve written a lot of the songs, we just need to rehearse and get them recorded," he said. "It’s just finding the time to do it. I mean, it should be easier now that we’ve nearly finished gigging this album."
This news has got me thinking. I mean, if The View are covering old Libertines tunes, well, do you think maybe they might have been influenced by them or something?
Probably just me.

OMGZ!
Pop Will Eat Itself!
I was going to say something
about how pretty much all their songs are a rip from that one song but you said it a whole lot better, thanks
so disappointed that
the view haven't looked directly into the sun and burnt out their retinas - this time anyway, one can always live in hope. Perhaps doherty will joint them onstage and stab them with his collection of hepatitis infected needles
The View
I must be one of the very few on here who don't mind the View at all. Sure, there is a lot of filler on the album but "Superstar Tradesman" is great. And they caused a riot at a secret gig in my hometown of Falkirk the other week and said they wouldn't be back..so respect for that! Nothing that exciting has happened in Falkirk for many a year
Nothing exciting in Falkirk???
How about Middleton and Moffat
Fuck.........
are PWEI going to cover The View?
Haven't they raped the Libertines corpse enough?
ouch
not a pleasant image
might
be an idea to spell his name right, no? kieran, not keiren.
and my..such vitriol over nothing. radio 1 often stipulate a couple of songs they want a band to cover. if the view's favourite happened to be this one, then so what? i don't think such obscene comments 'stab them with his collection of hepatitis infected needles' is really necessary. you may loathe their music, image, whatever, but thats a ridiculous statement.
YEAH!
that was the toned down version
I actually meant to say myxamatosis, and they really do deserve my vitriol...
Noone deserves
My Vitriol.
absolutely
frankly, who gives a shit? this is a NME quality story, with a deeply obvious knowing wink, just trying to get a reaction from View hating DiS fanboys
It's a fantastic song
They've got no chance of matching its brilliance so whats the point...
i disagree
i think they've got every chance of matching the level of its brilliance (i.e. very fucking low level)
oh well
im a die hard libertines fan so am probably a bit biased, but c'mon, it's a choon, man!
I wish The View would just
fuck off.
.
well said
I have no great hatred
towards The View, mainly because I've heard so little of them, but they've got to be fucking joking. Out of all the Libertines songs, they had to pick the BEST ONE.
:(
"now that we've nearly finished gigging this album"
this type of shit pisses me right off. how about "gigging" because you want to, because you enjoy it and you've got something to say, rather just as a glorified promo tour or an obligation to your record company?
also, anyone notice the hype for the view was absolutely massive right up until the point they released their album when it pretty much died? shouldnt it be the other way around? HMMMM
Hands up whos recorded a Sabadoh cover at Maida Vale
*HAND UP*
blimey
how about the way the music industry is structured means that bands tour around albums & singles? it's not the view's fault! i don't even like them at all but it's hardly their FAULT that they have to do promo or tour to sell records like you're insinuating, is it? that's kind of just how it is.
.
it's just the attitude of "now that we've toured this album" as if it's a reluctant obligation. im not suggesting they dont tour at all after the release of an album - obviously, a band after having released a new album would want to play those songs live to people - its their pathetic careerist, we'll-do-what-you-say attitude. i watched an stv interview with them where upon being questioned on their gruelling tour schedule with "did you plan this or were you just told to?" they answered "we were just told to." i mean jesus christ, do what you fucking want! organize your own fucking tours! i realize the pitiful view are far from being the people in the best position to do this, but the artists and bands really need to - to co-opt an slogan from rage against the machine - take the power back
ummm
this is ridiculous. any band that signs to a major has contractual obligations to tour and promote, otherwise they would not have the funds to make the record they wanted to, nor have all the equipment to tour. deriding a band for the sake of it is so tedious.
i thought the point of the radio one thing
was that they did a song thats a bit different. rather than covering the band you copy anyways
they are like the bay city rollers
I like their fluffy hair. the cheeky chappies.
the view
unbelievable libertines rip offs and basically a bit fillery, but they do seem genuine, i dont think they are as cynical as razorlight for example.
they seem to be into it a lot and they look good live,
saying that, thats hardly a barometer as johnny borrell is the most contrived pop star ever.
You could have it so much better...
"We got asked to do a cover from the early 2000s."
Well, great. Do a Girls Aloud cover like the Arctics did, then fuck off. Aaargh.
But the Girls Aloud cover thing has already been done,
If they had done that then we would be on here moaning as they had copied the Arctic Monkeys.
