South Carolina's Band of Horses have announced their new album will be titled Cease to Begin.
The album, which drops October 9 on Sub Pop, is the follow-up to last year’s critically-acclaimed Everything All The Time.
In other news, the band’s frontman Ben Bridwell lost his cool onstage earlier this month with fans filming the show on their cameras. Bridwell gave one fan filming the song 'Funeral' at the show in San Diego the middle finger salute throughout the song saying "I see you filming" (not exactly scary, lets be honest). See it here
This attack caused the fan, known simply as Rosemary, to post an irate reaction to her ordeal on her blog. Her (edited) version of events: "So there I am with my tiny Sony digital camera, capturing the song, and suddenly I realize I’m getting flipped off by the singer. While playing the super emotional song, “Funeral”, he flipped me off and mid song yells, “I see you recording me.” I look around and at least 5 other people are taping him and he calls me out." You can read the rest of her literary masterpiece here.
Bridwell, who had felt the show was going badly way before the cameras came out, said: "It was just scratching at the surface of what's happening to shows lately. Everybody's got a camera in their pocket, and they turn it on… it's become a little bit ridiculous, and it was just a bit unnerving, and [with] the situation with the show and everything, all the stars lined up and I got pissed off."
He added: "I don't know, is there no sanctity left for live performance with going to a show and seeing it with your own eyes and remembering it? Do you have to tape every second, or even just your favorite song? I understand it, but it's becoming annoying."
What are your thoughts? Do you feel like taking it out Lily Allen-stylee on those brandishing their cameras at gigs or, do you too like to take a slab of the show home with you? DiScuss...

bf
he has a point...it pisses me off when people want to photograph/video everything. Removes you from the actual experience
however, that did look pretty darned arsey!
I empathise
Most gigs these days you can barely see the stage because every person in there is filming the entire thing. I don't think they're even watching, its just so they can brag to their mates that they went.
i try and
get a snap if i can, but i respect that if the musician doesnt want their picture taken then i put the camera away, there is a certain amount of ways you can take picture of a dude with a guitar
fair enough
its mega annoying. press photographers were bad enough but now the audience is doing it...
If
I decide to film a gig, I have a tiny little tripod which I either place on the stage or at small venues at the back on a ledge so I don't obscure people's views/enjoy the gig I agree though, people with their cameras and phones out is so frickin annoying.
it depends
i take a few pictures when i go to a gig, i dont obscure peoples views more so than my head being in the way. he just seems a bit grumpy.
Ungrateful Arseholes
I never film at gigs and do sort of find it annoying when people do. I can even see some sympathy with bands asking people not to film, provided it's done in a friendly way.
BUT for fuck's sake. He's essenitally getting annoyed at someone enjoying his gig and wanting to capture this moment they're enjoying for the future. To me that's just really ungrateful and miserable.
Nothing annoys me more than these bands that forget it's a privilege to be playing on stage and a privilege to have people enjoy your music. They really shouldn't be such arseholes about it.
I can see
why bands get annoyed with people watching the gig through their tiny phone screen, rather than actually *watching* it.
What a shame, I really enjoyed them at atp, now I just think he's a miserable cnut.
It's ridiculous
why film a gig? Why are more and more people feeling the need to remove themselves from an experience just so that they can 'enjoy' it later on crappy little handheld cameras? What's the fucking point?
It's like trying to take pictures of fireworks. Utter, utter cunts.
sometimes
photos of fireworks look pretty cool though.
True
but it's missing the point just a bit isn't it? Photographing an explosion?
Anyone can see/get fireworks now anyway.
Do you want to get some tonight? We can go to Richmond Park and aim them at deer.
^ i'm in ^
will
you please stop going on about deers.
deer*
just because you dont like it doesnt mean you should call poeple that do want a picture utter utter
i think the point is to remember and relive the experience? and the band being grumpy arseholes about it, need to remember these people buy their records and pay to see them live, so should stop being less of an arsehole.
Yes excessive photography may get irritating. But is it really THAT bad?
yes
get a hobby
are you going to EXP CIRC CLUB
tomorrow night?
my friend are but im working
may pop along after. are you?
get a plural
(yes)
AH THE WIT!
have you been to this before?
"he flipped me off"
lol
people
who film on stuff on their mobiles, for 30 seconds of rubbish footage and even worse sound to slap onto youtube is annoying though
ehh, it's a bit daft
if someone's foolish enough to compromise their enjoyment of the gig by making a grainy copy with crap sound of the band's live set from forty rows back, so be it. me, i'm going to be at the front giving my full attention to the gig.
Good
I cant stand the sea of mobile phones at gigs, its fuckin annoying.
It was great at ATP 2005 when Les Savy Fav took everyones cameras on the premise of getting an up close and personal shot, only for him to leave their cameras on the floor and ask them to use their memories instead.
Hero.
Emiliana Torrini
had notices around the venue saying "please take any photos during the first song" or words to that effect - i guess so everyone could get it out of their system and not pix0r off everyone sat behind them for the duration of the set.
Emiliana Torrini > This twunt
He lost his rag when I saw them play in Manchester...
They messed up a new song and he had a major hissyfit at the rest of the band. And then after the set, he just legged it off stage and didn't bother with an encore.
The guy's just got an attitude problem.
I think he should be applauded.
There are so many idiots at gigs fiddling about with cameras, and video cameras are even worse.
These are probably the same people who decide to talk through the entire gig.
yeah lets applaud the big man
losing his rag and having a go at a girl. if hes got a problem with it, fine. dont suddenly decide to have one and be a tosser.
completely the wrong way to go about it
Yeah, so he shouldn't have made that gesture
but I understand his sentiments.
And I'm sure he wasn't just focused on one female audience member, I think he was angry at all of them.
fine be a cunt to a load of the fans then?
who does he think he is? if you dont like photography there be sensible and do something about it beforehand. i might sympathise with his viewpoints, but not now hes shown himself to be a twat.
As a wise friend of mine recently said:
"will everyone please stop documenting their scene, and start having a good time"
Who's really concentrating on the gig?
The girl who's filming every move of the band or the singer who's spending several songs targeting an audience member with the finger?
what a bunch of bearded TWATS
shave your INDIE BEARDS OFF, TWATS
