apparently pupils capable of achieving only a C grade at A-level two decades ago could expect to be awarded an A grade today (according to a governmental study of exam standards).

As such the government are proposing curbs in the number of retakes and an A* grade above the present top mark.

So we ARE getting dumber. I knew it.
