oh for god sake!
can they please stop ignoring captain?
it happened ok! and it was brilliant!
Where's
the Venue in Leicester?
The Venue
Im guessing The Venue is possibly a rubbish name for the student union at De Montfort?
The Venue
Isn't at De Montfort uni... it's at the University of Leicester (Student Union) which is next to De Montfort Hall by Victoria Park
it's a good venue for gigs actually, just recently be done up
They've also left out
Everyone says you're so fragile and Film for the future.
It's amazing how much this band used to mean to me.
I'm pleased
El Capitan is on it. But annoyed that Annihalate Now isn't. That'd still work in context with all the later stuff surely?
Oh well. In the grand scheme of things, a 'pretty' good best of tracklisting for a change.
Captain II
I think that El Capitan is about the song Captain....
"No one even listens,
the same way that no one ever laughs,
i'm taking the car out of the snow,
i'm wondering where the summer went to,
circled by your secrets,
i'm hoping they don't include me,
at least i'm in good company,
because there's no one else around,
except me,
Stand up,
stand up,
and stand down,
I’ll climb El Capitan,
just to watch the world slow down"
me too
they were my fave band for a good few years. i don't object to them moving forward even though i don't like the new stuff, but it does wind me up that they always try and ignore their earlier stuff or slag it off in interviews.
also lacking
'actually it's darkness' - one of my all time favourites.
still going to see 'em in Preston tho.
me too
the twilight sad are supporting!!!
also aren't idlewild suposed to have a b-sides collection out this year?
no satan polaroid either
do parlophone have the rights to the captain stuff? or was that fierce panda?
bit revisionist, if the former.
and no
queen of the troubled teens!
TEAR OUT HIS EYES AND APOLIGISE!
eurgh
it's just wrong.
By definition it should have nothing post-100 Broken Windows on it. Hope is Important is severly under-represented and Parlophone could've at least stuck ONE Captain track on.
I compiled a CD of all the b-sides and early non-album tracks - they should've released that.
I'll still hold out for a DVD of the videos though; the only place I've seen I'm a Message and Fragile were on the old website, streamed and roughly the size of a postage stamp.
well
"By definition it should have nothing post-100 Broken Windows on it."
Have you paused to consider the irony of this Tom? You do KNOW what a best of is supposed to do, don't you? And who it's generally aimed at, right?
Compilation
you still got it?
zshare
When I heard about this
on Planet Sound, they said it would have a DVD with all the videos on as well, and a documentary.
Maybe that will only be some sort of special edition?
that tracklisting
is shit.
never have a band been so in denial about how rubbish they have become compared to how good they were before.
I'm Happy To Be Here Tonight
one of their BEST SONGS
bastards
it's too samey once you put those tracks together, it does demand a couple of rockets up its arse that, sadly idlewild do have in their back catalogie and aren't bloody using. bastards!
Captain was out on steve lamacq's deceptive 'imprint' I think, are they still going?
deceptive!
not fierce panda. that's right.
record company
trying to make money on a band they despise...
Don't you love it...
I shall continue to imagine they split up after The Remote Part
and be happy.
the Best Of has been out for 8 years now
it's called '100 Broken Windows'
This looks
crap!. Seconding the 100 Broken Windows statement!.
PAINT NOTHING - BEST OF 1995-2005
cos we all have all the albums heres a tracklisting worthy of a BEST OF title try it out.
i can't imagine anyone buying this album, only reason to buy will be if theres a dvd included
note how theres no order to the songs, so that u cant hear the gradual decaying
Satan Polaroid
Captain
Film For the Future
Everyone says you're so fragile
I'm a message
when i argue
paint nothing
happy to be here tonight
little discourage
actually its darkness

too long awake
actually
the b-sides compilation (long long fucking overdue i say) will piss all over this. And it better have mince showercap 1, 2 and 3 on.
I have their first eight single on 7", incl. 'queen of the troubled teens', do you think it's worth owt anymore...?
My B-Sides Compilation
Is as follows:
'(1903-70)'
'1990 nightime'
'A tone'
'Actually it's darkness (acoustic version)'
'Broken windows'
'Chandelier (10.15 version)'
'Forgot to follow'
'It'll take a long time'
'I've only just begun'
'Last night I missed all the fireworks (live)'
'Meet me at the harbour'
'Mince Showercap (Part 1)'
'Mince Showercap (Part 2)'
'Mince showercap (Part 3)'
'Palace Flophouse'
'Rescue'
'Rusty (Poor Soldier remix)'
'Satan polaroid (Hallam FM session)'
'Self healer (acoustic Lamacq Live)'
'Theory of achievement'
'There's glory in your story'
'This is worse'
'Thousand'
'West Haven'

'You've lost your way (XFM session)'
'You don't have the heart (live)'
This is all the Hope and 100BW b-sides on one CD, except the live session 'I'm a Message' which wouldn't quite fit on.
I dunno, a quid over paypal for postage of something? If anyone wants a copy email me:

knockers
I would add the acoustic version "live in a hiding place" to that. and buy it when it came out properly.
Insult
I didn't know whether to laugh, cry or be angry at that tracklist.
It's an insult to anyone that heard and loved the likes of 'Faster', 'Queen of the Trouble Teens' or 'Captain'
I loved Idlewild but I pose a question: has any band ever disappeared so far up their own a-hole?
They completely turned their backs on everyone that made them a name. The biggest mistake was learning to play their intruments properly! Everything they've released after '100 Broken Windows' is simply shite, arse and more shite.
How dare they dismiss their early stuff? They were brilliant but now they're just another drab indie band.
Who buys this cack? Travis do better than what they're trying to do! Fact.
Seeing Idlewid support Ash at Folkestone in 1998 (Chicks were also playing - anyone remember them) remains my all-time favourie gig. I was only there for Idlewild.
But Idlewild, you can now just fuck off.
And in addition...
Look at Roddy that bloody photo?
Who does he think he is? A poet for the new generation?!
Actually, I remember in '100 Broken Windows' it had "Support your local poet" on the sleave inside.
My arse.
:-(
Terrible tracklisting.
I miss the idlewild of olde.
Where did shouty Roddy disappear off to by the way?
.
Despite emotional attachements people seam to have to their old material i look forward to this.
he grew old...
