__
magik markers will probably be lush.. no kate nash?
NO!
thank god.
Simian Mobile Disco...
Comes to mind.
of Montreal
is a pretty glaring one seeing as it is undoubtably the winner
hear hear
^ this ^
The Aliens
and Soulsavers
Er...
Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris
Clutch - From Beale St to Oblivion
Loney Dear - Loney Noir
was pretty good although prob not album of the year. I would also add Traffic and Weather by Fountains of Wayne but then again I am a power pop loving freak of nature!
nope
think you got everything.
Certainly I could suggest a couple that need to come off that list post haste.
^
Well, it's obvious that not all of these suggestions will make the final cut... there's simply too many of them, for one.
David Thomas Broughton - It's In There Somewhere...
No Backlash Cop?
Given there were daily topics about it at one stage.
Era Vulgaris
Definitely
That Biffy Clyro album is awful
another vote for Of Montreal.
another vote for Backlash Cop.
Cassadaga
also
shortlists = lame.
If we don't have one, though...
...it opens up too wide a forum. If anyone can suggest anything, the winner could earn about 20 votes or something. Which. Would. Suck.
yeah
but readers chosing albums off a shortlist compiled by DiS writers doesn't make it a "readers album of the year".
plus, i don't think it would be nearly as divisive as you're making out.
Well, by definition it is a readers' albums of the year...
...doinbg it like this gives us twin dimensions: we list an editorially selected run down of 50 (probably) excellent albums in A-Z order and those are our albums of the year. Then our readership ranks them, as such.
It worked well last year, with unexpected results. Who knew, then, that Gallows would rank so highly?
Raz?
True that
what about
Remate
Rumskib
Port-Royal
Fury of the head teachers
Hearts of black science
Marissa Nadler
no Pig Destroyer? :(
booooo!
Arctic Monkeys
should be in there. As should Sondre Lerche.
BRIGHT EYES!
Maximo Park
Fall Of Troy
Sondre Lerche's wasn't that good...
Certainly not as good as his first two.
Definitely Cassadaga though... there wasn't even an official DiS review!
Posted mine though...
I don't like Faces Down personally..
But each to their own.
Also,
excellent Cassadaga review.
oh, you.
I thought it was probably too long... I suppose it's an obsessive Bright Eyes fan's review of a Bright Eyes album.
Thanks :)
OF MONTREAL!!!
Dirty Projectors
Strings Of Consciousness
Twilight Singers
Maximo Park
Jetplane Landing
i think someone at Rough Trade
is sending me that Dirty Projectors album. i'm looking forward to hearing it..
Roll Deep - Rules & Regulations OBVS.
Also:
Pantha Du Prince - This Bliss
Oh No - Dr. No Oxperiment
Kemialliset Ystävät - s/t
Dyme Def - Space Music
Not out yet but should be on the list:
Adrian Orange & Her Band - s/t
MIA - Kala
I take it
leaving Of Montreal off that list is because it deserves an award of its own
YES to Rules & Regulations
new Adrian Orange?
Awesome.
Yeah it's awesome.
There's horns and jazz solos. It's the shit.
The Field
^
Seconded.
Also:
Of Montreal
Gui Boratto
BRMC
new Okkervil River, for sure.
Though that's not out yet...
There's a few I could think of for that catergory.
of Montreal
Hissing Fauna Are You The Destroyer.
Album of the year, the day it came out.
Future Of The Left
Curses
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Of Montreal!!!
Aereogramme!!!
Tellison
Dartz
Youthmovies :P
i would imagine youthmovies
won't be on there because it's a DiS release.
still.
it gets my vote. and it doesn't even exist yet.
*supreme confidence in band producing excellent album*
Grails?
Do Make Say Think
Animal Collective
^ seconded DMST and Grails
clarence clemmons
from the E street band is one of the rulers of the future in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure :D
oops
wrong thread.
although that would be an ace album.
Some useful suggestions here
Ta, people. A few obvious omissions.
*vomits*
Fucked Up - Hidden World
didn't get a review on here mind...
I prefer
the Arctic Monkeys' album to anything in that list. I'd also add Gui Boratto - Chromophobia.
Anything?
Wut?
erm...
if you gave me that list with the Arctic Monkeys album on it and said pick a favourite, I'd probably choose the Arctic Monkeys album. I think it's great and probably the most satisfying album I've heard this year, along with Gui Boratto.
Air
Pocket Symphony? Not their best, but it's better than some of the stuff on there.
Oh
and We Can Create, maybe?
Errrr
Field Music.
obv.
Looks like I have to second myself!
I'll third your second!
(HOTT)
forth-ed
considering A) its flawless and B)DiS gave it 10 you'd be idiots not to include it.
yay, air formation
nice to see that on there!
You foolishly missed off
Marnie Stern - In Advance of the Broken Arm
and maybe:
Menomena - Friend and Foe
Help She Can't Swim - The Death of Nightlife
REUBEN
Marnie Stern
Dizzee Rascal
Cutting Pink With Knives
Neurosis
Oh man.
The Dizzee albums is so bad it makes me weep tears of total devastation.
*ahem*
BIG BUSINESS - HERE COME THE WATERWORKS
shit yes!
add - BIG BUSSINESS
SHY CHILD
THE JAI ALAI SAVANT - Flight Of The Bass Delegate
is the album of the year. That I've heard at least. I guess it wouldnt be included in a list like this as I doubt it has sold more than about 100 copies over here, and I'm not sure any of the writers will have heard it.
But you should have. SOMEONE BACK ME UP HERE!
^ THIS
Should definitely be on any shortlist.
I'd also add Pest Sound but I would be the only one who would vote for it, probably cos I'm the only one thats listened to it.
__
people seemed to be happy with Peels festive 50, and that was just voted for by the public, and not from any list. People will always be annoyed by the winner even if its by 100 votes, or 1 vote. You could have a top 3 that you give points to or something rather than just your favourite album. Or a staff list and a public list. But dont underestimate the DiS public!
Consider yourself underestimated
;o)
__
:O
There was a public list
I'll try and find it.
Here you go gamecat
Compiled from DiS Readers votes, so a lot better :)

well i reckon its more reflective of how good albums are? cheers tho!!
Can I request: Dartz! be in that list?
I'm sure their album was this year.
February I think
Just a few
of Montreal - Hissing Fauna
Oh No - Dr. No Oxperiment
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before The Ship Sank
Jetplane Landing - Backlash Cop
Maps - We Can Create
But the winner will be (when it finnaly comes out)
Sunset Rubdown - Random Spirit Lover
Turns out Modest Mouse was there
my bad :P
o and maybe
A Sunny Day In Glasgow - Tout New Age
St.Vincent - Marry Me
__
parts and labour - map maker?
I reckon
KTL 2 deserves a mention. Drone/filth by Stephen O' Malley and Pita. It is truly fantastic.
i wont bother
because DIS gave very poor reviews some albums i like and being in a list doesnt make a album "good". history lesson.
Deathspell Omega - Fas
I'm going to go on about this album until everyone listens to it. Best metal album I've heard this year.
ooooh
i can't believe i forgot 65daysofstatic - Destruction of Small Ideas
i know a lot of people didn't think it was all that, but having given it a proper chance, and lots of listens, i reckon it IS. so there :P
__
^5 i agree with that. i like it more than there last album
i realise no one will read this post.
I DID
i wanted to see if anyone agreed with me!
^5!

Whoo!!
Grails
also the new Neurosis is pretty great
