Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Nerds and Tab Clear, what happened to them? Tab was disgusting as is Liptonice so it's really no wonder they vanished. Also hot drinks in a can sank without a trace. Nevermind with chocolate, they usually just change their names but haven't disappeared. Snicker or Marathon? I remember when people were complaining about the name change as well as Starburst/opal fruit.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Whatever happend! Oh! Corey Haim!

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

whatever happened to plug-in sets?
whatever happened to hi-fi?
whatever happened to tv sex?
whatever happened to you and i-hi-hi-hiiii...?

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

When i was in paris i got addicted to lipton ice, peach flavour. 6 cans a day.

What happened to Glenn Helder, shit Arsenal winger? Or star striker in our shite 1994/95 campaign Chris Kiwomya?

And what of Manny Owoyimni or whoever from West Ham's great (!) sides of the late 1990s?

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Why did rappers stop saying "BLACKAU!" as a gunshot noise?

Where did all the socialists go?

What happened to Sensible Software, creators of Sensible Soccer and Cannon Fodder? I miss my days of playing SWOS on the Amiga.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

What happened to Lemmings and why were a nation of children in charge of haulting their suicide missions?

Argh Sensible soccer, I can't stand football but especially the management games.

I think they can now get a gunshot noise so don't need to imitate it. Weird question, in need of medicating?

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

nah, now they just say "BUC BUC BUC" or "BRACKABRACKA" or "BRAAAP".

about 3 years ago it was "BLACKAU!" which was quite entertaining.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

sensible soccer 94/95 (i think) on the amiga 500 is the greatest game of all time

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Sensible World Of Soccer was better - you could play Ghanaian league matches!

And did you know there's a team in Chile called O'Higgins United? I did!

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

SWOS was absolutely fantastic.
there's also an Algerian team called Nasser Hussain

i'm going to start saying

Blackau again soon...

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Chris Kiwomya wow...what happened to him?
does anyone remember Vladimir Kinder - boro winger/defender...?
or Daniel Amokachi...everton striker...

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

I remember Amokachi! Nigerian international about 10 years ago! I'm such a football nerd.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

did Kiwomya play for Millwall at some point??

i remember amokachi leaving Evertone and i remember him scoring at Wolrd Cup 98...then heard nothing else...

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

ok so it was QPR and not Millwall...my bad...

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

he was at ipswich.

then George Graham signed him, got sacked, and Bruce Rioch must have buried him under the patio.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

i just took a newspaper article about steve staunton, i'd forgotten all about him and his lovely ginger hair....

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Aye i remeber old kinder egg.
Once he was miles out and as a kid i shouted shoot, evertbody around me laughed and then of course he shot and scored.
The only time i have took credit for an assist at a boro match and i was so proud.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

What happened to Rafael Scheidt, the amusingly (and aptly) named Celtic striker?

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Someone must know what happened to John Jensen.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

ARSENAL LEGEND!

I think he went into management in Denmark, boringly.

He sort of disappointed us when he scored again QPR, i think it was his only ever goal, and afterwards we couldn't take the piss any more.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

What became of everyone's favourite little chubster Tomas Brolin? Or on a similar note Jesper Blomqvist?

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

John Jensen is indeed a legend, scoring in the final of the Euro '92 championships as the mighty Danes took the tournament by storm. Rousing chorus of the Danish national anthem, anyone?

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

I read an article the other day, Rafael Scheidt is playing in Brazil - Badly.

Footballers who have disapeered:

Anyone who leaves Argyle apart from Marc Edworthy
Eddie Mcgoldrick
John Beresford
Ruel Fox
Andrea Silenzi
Robbie Slater
Marco Boogers

This takes me back to my MATCH magazine and sticker days...

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

John Beresford had his own website. It was shit.

Ruel Fox was last seen helping out Robert Fleck (the man who inadvertently scored the goal that won Leeds the title in 91, legend) at whatever Norfolk-based non-league club he's at now.

And Manny Omoyimni (mentioned above somewhere) is now at Gravesend and Northfleet. Who are managed by one Liam Daish, lost football player fans.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

"Jesper Blomqvist"

He was a Charlton last season, I think he might have gone back to the Swedish leagues now.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

"And Manny Omoyimni (mentioned above somewhere) is now at Gravesend and Northfleet. Who are managed by one Liam Daish, lost football player fans."

Gravesend also have the Northern Irish one goal wonder Roy Essandoh that scored the winning goal for Wycombe in the FA cup to put them through to the Quarter Finals a few years ago. It's pretty amazing that Wycombe posted on teletext that they needed a striker for a few games and Roy's agent got in touch and Roy was on a week to week contract. He didn't last long though.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

does anyone remember the dude who said he was george weahs cousin?? He got a game for southampton(i think it was southampton anyway) and then they realised he was shit, and not the cousin of george weah, and got rid of him, legend!

but i dont care where he is now, i just thought i'd bring it up.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Ali Dia. Thanks Graeme Souness. We don't mention him :-/

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

I love those players like Rafael Schidt where managers spend millions on the basis of one 45 min video.

Like Milton Nunez of Sunderland.

I heard that Schidt's video was a composition of greatest bits, apperently in the games where he was shown his team actually lost badly.
Still convinced John Barnes, appernetly including transfer fee and wages he cost Celtic 9 million in total.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Anyone remember Lars Elstrup? Another Dane, saw him score twice when Luton beat Saints around 92-93ish. I only mention it because he ended up starting his own cult back in Denmark, which seemed to involve him being naked a lot. That's what I want from footballers, that slightly unhinged side to their personality.....

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Djurgårdens IF is Blomqvists team now a quick google reveals. apparently he is out of favour.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Haha 'Out of favour'. I love that phrase.

'Leeds' boss Kevin Blackwell has off-loaded out of favour Michael Duberry and Michael Ricketts in a double move'

For out-of-favour, see 'fucking awful'.

And I think Roy Essandoh has left G&N now, he's at Woking I think. He was 'out of favour' under Liam Daish...

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

ole gunnar solskjaer?? hes been injured for about 6 seasons now

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

whatever happened to that French guy who palyed for Man utd about 10 years ago. The one Cantona reccomended?

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

we at the boro once had a player called Fabio, does anyone remember him? anyway he was emersons cousin and from what i remember he played one reserve game then fucked off home cause it was too cold...he looked exactlylike emerson too...

what about Lilian Laslandes at Sunderland

or Daniel Cordone at Newcastle, man was he shit.

Temuri Ketsbaia...
Efan Ekoku (sp?)...
Pierre van Hooijdonk...
Paolo Wanchope...last i heard he was at man city...
Bryan Roy

and what happened to Robbie Fowler being good?

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

I liked Ketsbaia, nothing if not committed. And didn't I read the other day that Wanchope has just been released by his current Spanish team? Villareal or something like that?

Ekoku can be found pontificating about football on ITV somehwere, can't he?

Laslandes was truly useless, I'd forgotten about him

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Fabio was great, he did play a competitve match if i remember correctly. He did about 5 two footed challenges and stayed on the pitch and then he did just disapear.
Maybe Paul Daniels work, maybe not.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

^^
you'll have to be more specific than that...

john beresford does sky tv now.

Eddie McGoldrick! He was one of my favourite players when i was a nipper, i found his name funny.

What happened to Steve Morrow, the guy who Tony Adams dropped after his cup final heroics? I think he went to QPR (it's either them or West Ham for Arsenal rejects) and after that...

So then:
Devon White
Anders Limpar - LEGEND!
Gus Caesar
Gary Penrice (lovely tache)
Nicky Hazard (boooo!)
Massimo Taibi (i swear he was good at Piacenza before he signed for Man Utd!)

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

the ^^ was to fullerov btw.
damn you delve!

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Paolo Wanchope is at Malaga in Spain (that's Greek for wanker don't you know)

van Hooijdonk is at Fenerbahce, Champions League and all!

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

I'm lobing reading all of these names, genius. I don't know any of the answers (except Ekoku, he's working for the beeb now) but these are ace. Devon White! Those were the days!

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

i had about 700 Devon White paninis in 1993. that's how i remember. i also remember an own goal in QPR's relegation season, poor lad.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

hehe Andy Linigan...

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Old Norwich players seem to be doing well. Jeremy Goss, anyone?

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

The french guy was bald and tall.

He played two matches teh first fairly well the second man utd lost about 4-0. This would be the 95/96 season.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

the only tall bald guy i remember was Attilio Lombardo at Palace...he was awesome.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

hah, yeah, he ended up being their player manager halfway through his first season!

i love this thread!

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Was Jeremy Goss the Norwich player who scored against Bayern Munich in the Olympistadion in the Chamipons League around 92/93?

I could rifle off about 100 Wimbledon players who have since dissapeared without a trace.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

William Prunier i have discovered. He is probably retired now.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

don't remember him at all...

Gary Lake?
What's Beni Carbone up to?
Uwe Rosler?
Bryan Roy?

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Beni Carbone is at some Serie B side last time i remember, he should have signed for boro when we had him on loan but he wouldn't cause he was a cock.

Uwe Rosler, hehe, for some reason that reminds me of John McGinlay dunno why like...John McGinlay reminds me of Kevin Francis...hmm

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

was Kevin Francis that 9 foot tall monster for Stockport?

John McGinlay reminds me of Owen Coyle and a painful Arsenal cup defeat.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

yeah but i think he was actually 15ft...

this thread is just going to be a remembering old players thread...which is awesome.

what the fuck happened to Danny Cadamarteri and Joe-Max Moore?

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Tranmere maybe for Cadamarteri.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

was Joe-Max Moore that American at Everton? What a shite name.

I think Cadamarteri is 'out of favour' in League 2 or summat.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Whatever happened to Hans Segers, Wimbledon goalkeeping LEGEND?!

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

he got done over bung taking didn't he? with fashanu?

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

AHHH YEAH!! I remember that, they were the heady days of the 96/97 season when we finished 7th! We didn't need no Hans Segers.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Uwe Rosler, after turning up a bit for Saints, went back to Germany. I'm fairly sure that he also found that he had cancer or some such bad news, but I never heard anything after that

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

hope he got better.

what happened to Glenn Cotterill? I remember Arsenal legend Paul Davis breaking his jaw with a mean left hook in about 1991. Quality!

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

What about uwe Fuchs at the boro.
Played about 17 matchs and scored about 13 goals.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

FUCHS was a legend...

he went to Millwall, but didn't settle in, i remember an interview with him at Millwall

he said he wanted to go home, but he meant to middlesbrough and not germany which was awesome.

Robbos biggest mistake was not signing him

he came to the riverside a few years ago for Robbie Mustoes testimonial and the ovation he got was amazing, took him ages to score though.

ahh, memories...i'll always remember the german striking partnership of Fuchs and Kuntz..

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Glenn Cockerill is manager of a non-league side, don't think its Eastleigh but it might be someone round there.....

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

i remember Kuntz, yeah! And a japanese player called Fukuda, which to a commentator like David Pleat is quite a mouthful.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Dean Windass waas a good one, i'm also sure ther was a Romanian called Shite.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Yeah he came back this season or last as the guest as well.
He was fucking great.

Is Phil Stamp still kicking around at Hearts?

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

And Shitu at Sheff Utd always makes me laugh.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

there's a portuguese goalie called Quim and QPR's Danny Shittu...

Phil Stamp, god he was shit... fat ginger thug.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Thats the one QPR sorry everbody.

Yeah but when stamp got going he had a fair bit of pace and Ravanelli always said that he was the best player at the Boro.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Fab Rav said THAT!?

christ.

as i'm a gooner all i ever saw of stamp was his two footed tackles after coming on as an 80th minute sub on MOTD.

Here's a tough one - anyone remember Kazoo Miura? You'll have had to have been a Football Italia viewer about 10 years ago...

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

You were watching football italia when you were 8 and remember Kazoo Miura? Fairplay!

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

yesh Stampys at hearts...i remember him scoring the winner against celtic then getting sent off for taking his shirt off...

at least hes doing better than Andy Campbell and Anthony Ormerod...

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

Or even Alan Johnston, scored that lob against Sunderland and that was that. I think he went back to Scotland as well.

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

he only left like last season...

i think Mark Wilson is on loan in scotland somehwere right now...
what a shit time hes had...

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

It's kind of releveant this.

Here's a link if you want to buy Ian Holloway's Jag:

Re: the whatever happened to thread (pt2)

I think I can clear some of these up off the top of my head cos i'm sad like that:

Lilian Laslandes went back to France to play for the amusingly named Brest I think (short for Stade Brestois but thats not as childishly amusing)
Marco Boogers went AWOL from West Ham and was found 2 weeks later living in a caravan in Holland, he then later went back to play for groningen i think.
Thomas Brolin went back to Sweden to play in goal for some third division side or something.
Chris Kiwomya ended up also in Sweden playing for AB or something.
Mikkel Beck went to play in germany for FC Hansa rostock i think, who knows where he is now.
Enrique DeLucas went to play for alaves in spain just after they got relegated to the second division, there was some brouhaha that they'd actually signed him before chelsea came in anyway so it was a logical progression i suppose, a bit similar to that Robert Jarni - coventry debacle a few years ago.
Last I saw of Hugo Porfirio he was at benfi
