Oxford-based Meanwhile Back in Communist Russia are set to round off a highly successful year by playing their largest gig to date: supporting Pulp. The date, at the 2,700 capacity Birmingham Academy on October 31st, has been organised by Radio 1 and John Peel for whom the band have already recorded a succesful session. The show is one of a series of gigs for the yearly One In the City, formerly Sound City, running in Birmingham between Friday October 26th and Thursday November 1st.
Writing in an email to fans, Mark from the band expressed his surprise at the situation:I got a call from Rich who manages our record company Jitter, to say that he'd had a call from our radio promoter, who'd got a call from someone at Radio 1 to ask if we'd like to support Pulp at the Academy in Birmingham on the 31st of October. I said I thought we might possibly be free, and got it confirmed yesterday afternoon just before I went to see the most amazing live performance by Spiritualized. So, there you are...
Tickets for the gig are still available, priced £15
