yourcodenameis:milo effectively split last night after 5 years together as a band.
The Tynesiders released a statement via their MySpace page yesterday to explain their decision:
"After 5 years and 4 wicked cool records, we have decided to put yourcodenameis:milo on an indefinite hiatus.
"We are all exceptionally proud of all we have achieved as a band, but feel it is time to move on and explore new paths both musical and non musical.
"We are eternally grateful to everyone who supported us through it all, came to the shows, bought the records...plus all the bands we played with and the people we met along the way.
"We hope it meant as much to you as it did to us."
Adam Hiles, Ross Harley, Paul Mullen, Shaun Abbott and Justin Lockey's last release was They Came From The Sun (review); out in April this year through V2.
However, V2 was bought just nine days ago by Universal Music Group; the major conglomerate that runs Island, Lizard King and, more importantly perhaps, Polydor - the label ycni:m left in 2005.
But speaking to DiS, the band denied that this had any bearing on their decision and that "it was decided a while before that".
WHAT?!
hmm
yeah didnt notice the label connection until now.
I wonder if the print is dead series will still continue
I hope something will continue
Yourcodenameis:milo have been one of the most important bands to me for a while so I am incredibly gutted about this news.
i never listened to them
due to their awful name. not my fault.
*all roads to
right.
FUCKSSAKE
GRRRRRRRRRRRRR
OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE...
any more of my favourite bands want to split up?
ARGGGGGGGGGGgggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg
:(
WHAT?
:(
aww crap
this is bad, they were good good good!
i regret not seeing them live in brighton a few years back.
I'm gutted
but remain positive as they have left a good looking corpse in They Came From the Sun. Look at all the other british bands who released good albums then turned sour (naming no names). It has to be said that milo were one of the most innovative and interesting (not to mention amazing live) bands of the past few years. Ignoto was criminally underrated, and it was a shame that the more accessible They Came From the Sun didn't take them as far as they deserved.
:(
what titan_grip said
terrible news
agreed
they were amazing live, made Enter Shikari and chinese finger trap worth standing through, and all thoroughly nice guys who knew their smashing pumpkins
For some this is irrelevant...
...but for me, its a sad, sad day.
This band were always challenging themselves and their audience. We need a replacement...
Who could take the reigns now?
How many bands are splitting at the moment!?
I have been fortunate enough to spend a bit of time at Justin Lockey's studio which is like Phil Mitchell's arches and some of the things they have achieved would make any of the Premiership's billionaire owner's wallets winch thats for sure!
I also just wanna say
seeing them at Southampton Joiners in April was easily one of the best gigs Ive been to all year
So thats Field Music gone, Milo, Futureheads without a deal...
...Sunderland and Newcastle have gone way way down hill anyway. I wasnt a Milo fan though. There are some of amazing bands not getting any attention on the scene up in Newcastle. Mainly its groups with ties and connections to James Jam from what ive heard. Why don't we hear about Newcastle bands? There's only Maximo really. And Kubicheck... but theyre sticking to the formula. The ones that the main players in Newcastle are trying to push are a bit shit and too SAFE. Bands like Shin Jin Rui and Them Amazing Babies get ignored. Milo breaking up, and all these others might start people looking deeper nto the scene in Newcastle. I generally never hear of any new bands north of Manchester. Well apart from Das Wanderlust... and Mike Diver loves them.
Yeah, I know what you mean
The Sound Explosion have also been dropped / left their label not too long ago too as far as I'm aware, which is a real shame as their new stuff is incredible.
Realy pity about ycni:m. Haven't heard the new album yet but when they played at Newcastle Uni with Biffy a few months back they were lethal!
Field Music split?
Says who? Quite happy to be corrected but cant find anything to say as much?
Indefinate hiatus, actually.
I believe it's the 'main guy' that's started up the quite excellent School of Language - myspace it, yo.
I've just had word that YCNI:M are giving up there practice room and studio...
...thats the place Hayward described as "like Phil Mitchell's arches". Theyve paid up till the end of August and then the room/studio will have new tenants. So they are totally packing up shop, side projects and the lot will not be taling place at Justin Lockey's studio, so that will mean no Print Is Dead Vol.2. Like i said, i never got into them, but i thought some of you would like to know as i just recived a text from Newcastle.
4 wicked cool records??
You mean one very good debut ep then a mass of twaddle for the rest of it?? I had high hopes for ycim when they started out and saw them all across the country, a great live sound and tight as anything.
But that Ignoto or whatever it was called almost inverted my organs it was just sooo... bland...
Not suprising but would like to have seen them do well all the same.
booooo
