Must... not... mention... Busted.

Former Busted man (ooops!) Charlie Simpson will forever be trying, possibly in vain, to tear his name away from that boyhood pursuit. No matter how much he tries, he’ll always be remembered as the guy who did ‘What I Go To School For’ and ‘Thunderbirds Are Go’.

‘We Apologise For Nothing’ – the second single to be lifted from Fightstar’s forthcoming second album One Day Son This Will All Be Yours – swaps the upbeat pop ditties of Simpson’s formative years for pained vocals, double bass drums and meaty guitar crunches. It picks up from where the band's Grand Unification debut left off, upping the emo ante in a manner suiting musicians taking their project seriously.

And it isn’t bad at all, really. Once the over-the-top theatrics and (faux?) angst in Simpson’s lyrics cease being funny, ‘We Apologise For Nothing’ is a fairly enjoyable affair. It’s clean-cut and radio friendly, but with no sacrifice of the heaviness that may have been a factor in their parting of ways with Island Records following their debut. At the very least, this single should earn them some timely respect from the rock contingent proper.

Maybe, just maybe, Fightstar's continuing success might ultimately do away with the overwrought anguish presently infecting Simpson’s lyrics come their third album. I doubt it, though.

First album - great

second album - great

credit - none.

I was kind of hoping

that this review would simply say, "Well, you fucking well should", in a Spinal Tap-stylee...

Still, commendably objective there, Benjamin. :-)

shit

sounds like biffy/foos/silverchair put through a 'busted filter'

I wonder if charlie will start playing pop-tinged post-rock when his fans reach uni?

bollocks.

I believe in giving him a chance.

I liked the singles off the first record, got the album and it was awful. Waaaaaaay to close to it's influences.

Still think he deserves credit though, he could of stuck with Busted for a couple more years of arena tours making a mint but he quit knowing he was probably going to be ridiculed in the 'proper' music scene. Bit brave if you ask me.

wanted to give this a chance...

did...

heard the worst drum fill ever (leading into the chorus, of sorts)...they sound like 'that band with that guy from requiem for a dream in it'....

and haven't they stolen that album name from mike vennart.....hmmm...

well they're not shit

saw one of their first ever shows support My Vitriol back in 04/05?

Thought they were ok but he sings from his throat not his chest and always sounds strained and imposed.

But, they are making good music, it is a damn site better than the bollocks coming out from the likes of fucking Architects and Bring Me The Horizon.

Yes I know it isn't the same thing before you start getting smart.

yep

that drum fill is shocking

cuttign to the core of this review

if he was in busted or not, this is still second rate rival schools/cave in-lie wank and shouldn't even be reviewed on DiS, leave it for Kerrang for fucks sake. seriously

it's true

save DiS for reviews of second rate joy division / eits wank
