Bands Do Multiple Versions of Same Song

OK, I'm driving home and switching back and forth from track 1 to track 13. Which version of Race for the Prize is best? Goddamn Flaming Lips, right?! Bloody brilliant and both versions are 10/10 great... cos, y'know, music doesn't get better than that... and so ultimately I had to make a decision. Cos that's the sort of dumb shit we do, eh? For the record - in a split decision - the big production on 13 won. It was the drums that did it!

Yeah, so. Other bands re-do their own stuff, eh. Like AF re-did No Cars Go better the second time round. OK, you get it.

Name the band, name the song, and tell us which is the better version!

Hey Hey, My My

by Neil Young. But I couldnt possibly decide which was better....!

Perhaps the closer.

and he did the same

for Rockin... on Freedom in 89.

Radiohead

Morning Bell and Morning Bell (Amnesiac)

I prefer the Kid A version.

...

They also have two versions of Lift that I've heard.

And haven't ever released any of them.

Weird fucking band...

And three versions of Killer Cars

and two versions of Banana Co. and two versions of Motion Picture Soundtrack.

There's a second version of MPS??

Is it any good?

i have

a kind of acoustic version of that - it's labelled as Motion Picture Soundtrack (Demo)...

is it that or another one?

Reel Big Fish do several different versions

of their song, "S.R." (ska, death metal, rock, emo.)

Drop Nineteens

My Aquarium (album)
My Aquarium (Second Time around) (single)

To this day this is still my "singing in the shower song".

The Microphones

never thought much of the glow pt 2 version of 'the moon' it is really poppy and his voice is really reserved and burried in the mix but then I heard the song islands version and it is the most heartbreaking song ever.

Fugazi:

Provisional/Reprovisional.

Provisional is one of my favourite songs of all time. It has some kind of naive charm that I can't quite pinpoint.

Reprovisional... isn't.

I'm going to have to play both now

because I tended to think Reprovisional was better before. Hmm...

its exactly the same song

but with ghey 80s drum reverb on provisional

The Mercy Seat by Nick Cave

i like the versions on Tender Prey and the live DVD best.

Smashing Pumpkins

when playing live, they change nearly all of their songs, some good, some bad

Bright Eyes

Make War

off motion sickness :D

hmm

also Handsome Family had different versions of Weightless Again on two consecutive albums

Chapterhouse have 2 different versions

of 'Something More', one noisy version on the 'Sunburst' EP and a more relaxed affair on 'Whirlpool'. I can't decide which one i prefer...

On BSS's s/t

the ep version of Major Label Debut is way better.

Bright Eyes

One Foot in Front of the Other became Landlocked Blues.

which is better

broken social scene

lover's spit.
different versions on You Forgot it in People and Beehives. The version on Beehives is way better.

bss again...

with major label debut.. there's the vastly inferior "fast" version on the bonus cd of the s/t album..

same goes for big day coming by yo la tengo..

million dead

smiling at strangers... the single version is better than the album version

is that really a different version

or just a different recording? as far as i can tell the song is exactly the same, just from a different recording session...

but you're right - the single version is what got me into them in the first place, and it's still the best.

wrong

the guitar sounds absolutely horrible on the single version..

wrong!

i like that dirtier guitar sound of the original single ,but yea your right its the same song but recorded 'better'in my opinion hehe

milemarker

do a few versions of new lexicon. the one i have on an old mixtape is way better than the one i downloaded.

Hendrix

Voodoo Child and the extended Voodoo Chile. Both great.

The other version

of Death Cab's 'Title and Registration'. Admittely the album version's better, the alternative version just sounds 'fuller'.
