The Futureheads have finished work on their third album according to a blog posting on the band's MySpace.
"I know it's been ages," said guitarist Ross Millard, "and for that I can only apologize, but please don't think that the four of us have been sat on our backsides in Sunderland, wasting away. Oh no.
"We spent three weeks (yes, just THREE WEEKS – record time for the Futuremen!) in Andalusia with Youth making the as-yet-untitled (of course!) third album!
"And I'm pleased to say it's pretty much finished!
"It was our best recording experience yet because it was the first one that hasn't involved any kind of nervous breakdown/exhaustion/bleak-yorkshire-farmhouse-in-the-middle-of-winter!
"The energy is back, and the songs are tighter, faster and, dare I say it, a bit more playful than before...here's much more Punk Rock spirit in the new stuff, and we'll be streaming some of it online over the coming months for you to see for yourselves."
The band went on to say that they are yet to mix, master or name the record but are eager to sort the formalities and get back to touring.

Brilliant.
In a world where Hard Fis get a weekend on T4 and bands like YCNI:M split up after getting nowhere, this is fantastic news.
Hopefully a decent label will get hold of them and actually promote this album
mmm
how good was that first album? very good.
The second album was good too
Someone needs to say that so let it be me.
I agree
News & Tributes is criminally underated.
Is underated spelt with one 'r' or two? Its a toughy. An underated spelling challenge.
Roll on new Futureheads stuff.
two
:)
Flipping right
It was brilliant, I bloody love it
Woop woop
Good to hear. I thought it was ridiculous that they got dropped last year. Hopefully they'll have a few dates lined up as well. Seems like ages since they were last around, although it's only since the beginning of the year.
Yes yes...
The Futureheads are superb. I have a good feeling about them this time around. All that bad second album talk, lack of promotion and label dropping business was just mean! Boo to 679!
i swear barry...
lives on my street, i keep seeing him walking around! i might be wrong tho
superb news
i do notice a lot of hate for The Futureheads round these parts though...
if its up near queen margaret drive
he does
Tam!
Closer to Hyndland ;)
Well
It's a common misconception that The Futureheads were "dropped". They merely exercised a loophole in their contract and left their major-label funded debt behind them forever at the first opportunity. Lucky boys. They're now free to sign to any indie in the country and people think that this is a bad thing to happen to them? Haha.
The 2nd album, in my opinion, is amazing. But because it isn't filled with instantly recognisable MTV2 hits for dribbling indie dorks, it got slightly ignored.
*spaffs self*
YES!!!
I love these guys!!!
pls pls pls pls pls pls pls be good
Great news
Far, far too good to be dropped. DiS should get them if no-one else does.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Go away, no-one gives a shit about your boring 'angular' art rock. You might have been big in 04, when it was ALL THE RAGE, but not any more.
hisss
at the person above, if the new album is good i will listen to it.
If their fourth is good i'll listen to it in 2010 a whole six years after 2004, im a brave one.
booooo...
news and tributes was a massive step forward, the heads will be around a lot longer yet... they're always changing, growing up... like radiohead or pixies. also, i'd look out for duels... man have they progressed!
funny
The only music you hear on the telly at the moment is "angular art rock", albeit watered down, safe and commercially money-spinning renditions of the first 'Heads album, so what you're saying doesn't really make sense. The world should be congratulating The Futureheads and throwing bags of sick at absolute horsenonsense like Maximo Park, but we live in a very weird and stupid world.
arse
but when you realise that they were one of, if not the first peddling the "angular" style that we now take for granted then you can zzzzzzzzz all you want but you're a tit.
17 year old
in ignorant cunt shocker. you were 14 when the futureheads first album came out, wrighylew?
You were probably writing to Smash Hits getting pissy that McFly ripped off Busted
