Rick Rubin

depends.

if you're going for a live band sound, yes. but it may not come out radio friendly.

if its going to be you and guitar, i dont think steve will add much that anyone else couldnt. he is also in another country.

it's going to be

a band recording.

radio schmadio.

well unless you're Bush

get someone else.

i think

we all wish we were gavin rossdale

i disagree

i don't wish i was gavin rossdale, the guy seems like a cock

which he regularly

inserts into Gwen Stefani. Reassess your position.

ewww

just.. eww.

Albini...

records Nina Nastanovich, right? He can do more than pure rrrraaaaawwwkk-noize (I don't mean Bush btw)

but...but...

Nina Nastasia!

i think it could work, Emmy.

i disagree

"if its going to be you and guitar, i dont think steve will add much that anyone else couldnt."

i love how the scout niblett albums he's recorded sound. really creepy.

but thats just setting up

a nice old mic so that its mega echoey and stuff. any good producer could do that.

yes.

any producer with an Albini-level of knowledge as to how and where to set up mics to obtain such a sound.
of course.

he also did

fucking fantastic work with pj harvey & her band.

^

He won't always produce magic. But if he gets creative he'll totally leave his mark on it.

Albini...

isn't about 'leaving his mark' though, all his best albums are ones where he's just let it sound natural, as if you're listening to the band live.

the albums he did with electrelane are incredibly well recorded.

i raise you

Nina Nastasia

you know

i bought Dogs about a year ago, and I've never listened to it. for shame..

it's an okay record

but get The Blackened Air if you have the chance. It's her best in my opinion and is really, really beautiful.

i shall do if i like Dogs

which i bought because it was like $1 or something in a salvation army shop in Vancouver :D

Blackened Air is the best album.

But Dogs is much more than OK, and contains her best song.

darn

should have read the whole thread.

mike mogis

actually im sick of mogis

he'd only add shimmering slide guitar to every song

yeah!

then everything could sound like bright eyes <3

bright eyes is a pox

on the good name of the lap steel

Ben Harper on Slide

AMAZING

its a bit much

anyway I thought you hate bright eyes?

i do, but not the power of steel

actually i just checked and this mogwai guy has never made an album that i love. screw him!

seriously though

if you can afford him, get Jon Brion.

er

we can't afford anything, i'm trying to see if i can get someone to do it out of the kindness of their heart

ah

well scratch albini off the list then.

I think Steve would only do that if he thought you were great

so you should send him some stuff.

However, I think it's only his fee he waives or drops, not the recording studio costs.

Our drummer could record you. He does a good job on all of our stuff :D

...

Adam Whittaker did our first single and he is the business (he's just doen the new Doves stuff/the unreleased Dogs Die 2nd album/Dustin's BM/lots of other stuff). Also he's often up for a speculative deal.

PM me for details or find him in our top friends at www.myspace.com/heartwearprocess.

uh oh

adam whittaker and i have crossed paths already.

erm

i'll leave it at that...

Dave Fridmann!

it'll be all lovely and swooshy.

I'll do it.

And for free.

Only drawback is that I don't have a studio...

Me too

I'll do it. Just wave your hands when you want me to hit REC+PLAY.

Hey!

We can record it Amsterdam, I'll just see about getting the time off work...

On second thoughts... blowing the entire budget on weed in the first week probably isn't that good an idea is it...

even if

you blew the entire budget on weed you would probably only get very slightly giggly

You can stay at my house

So is the REC+PLAY idea on or what?

I'm a lightweight

I just have to THINK about that stuff and...

o_O woooooaaaahhhh.... dude, it's happening again!

phil spector

if you fancy being locked away, beaten and possibly shot.

might give the album an 'edgy' feel.

is

that what happened to Starsailor?

think what you like about cripple crow

the production on that record is

AAAAMMMMMMAAAAZZZZZZIIIIINNNNGGGGGG

I think it's some guy with a scandinavian name. He's damn good

Colin Roberts?

how much would you ask for that

colin roberts, man about town?

like, nothing

Brian May

joe meek

or ill do it for free.

xx

Between yourself

Panda_Bear, crablin and me that could be a very interesting album, all recorded on a budget of nil....

i have recorded

about 8 songs with a friend. the only costs were the strongbow and cookies that we got for inspiration...

xx

joe meek?

did prole find a way to superfastgrow his daughter?!?

just get

Jeremy Warmsley to do it

.

Ed Bullerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr [last sound of word going on forever thanks to excessive reverb usage]

David Axelrod

Has to be Albini,

the Nina Nastasia/Jim White record is so so perfectly produced, it's mental. Failing that, I hear Charles Finkelstein has a pretty impressive studio these days.

Dan Myers

for producing Friends of Mine by Adam Green <3

I like the production on your EP, even though my vinyl is warped so it sounds a bit wonky... really must get round to sending it back.

my friend nick is a wiz on cubase...

and has lots of equipment.
i'll let him know you're interested.

i'd say dave fridmann

but he did the first Gemma Hayes album and that was hardly Fridmann-esque...

My band is going to record our album here : http://www.bearcreekstudio.com/ with Guy Picciotto from Fugazi. Well, hopefully.

Napoleon IIIrd

Nick Launey!

<3 production on The Veils' Nux Vomica... and you share a manager or something don't you?

also produced Nick Cave and Grinderman!

Jon Clayton

You'll never get Albini!!

Seriously try
Alan Moulder (Nine Inch Nails / Sugar)
Paul Stacey I hear is good - did a mates band recently.
John Leckie (Elastica)
if you are UK.

you can get albini pretty easily

if he likes your stuff. 2 pineapster bands have been to record with him

Brian Eno...

although having Coldplay on his CV may have dampened his credentials somewhat.

he's not that expensive either, relatively speaking

if you work fast you could record with him for just a few grand, plus the cost of flying to chicago, i suppose.

seriously though, I'd like to record at John Vanderslice's studio, tiny telephone it's called. in the US, obviously, but all the stuff I've heard from there sounds ace.

Genuine suggestion...

By that I mean realistic if you can't afford to go crazy with it.

This studio in Cardiff
http://www.myspace.com/wingsforjesus

It's run by Kris Jenkins who works with Super Furry Animals a lot, playing percussion and I think doing some engineering on their albums too.

I think he recently recorded Cate Le Bon there, and the tracks on her myspace sound great.
http://www.myspace.com/catelebon

I've also heard that he's really really cheap, and he's a cool guy, he taught at my college briefly, he nearly failed us all, but he was still ace.

hi emmy

i'd highly recommend a dude called david peters. you won't have heard of him, but he learnt everything he knows from david fridmann and he's resourceful, inventive, a bit weird (in the best possible way) and can record pretty much anywhere you want if you need to save on studio costs - he brought some amazing bits of kits over from pennsylvania (where he's from) and we set up studio in a big house in acton. plus he's just ace. he's also done stuff for bishi, emit bloch, a few projects for one little indian... might be worth a look?

Gary Lineker.

maybe

you should record it yourself.

Xenomania
