I've been listening to their debut quite a lot these last few days, it's really rather good. haven't seen much love on these boards though, any fans?

the record is ace
and the first time i saw them live i really enjoyed their somewhat shambolic performance, but the next couple of times seeing them their live show did nothing at all but irritate me.
Good to know
They're playing Belgium on the same day as Los Campesinos. I was kind of gutted but now all is well!

the lead singer annoyed the shit out of me - wanted him to stop screaming! didn't like the holding up of messages either, too gimmicky. it's the first gig i've left early for ages (sorry brooner, they might be better on record)

no idea how it translates on record, as i have never hearded recorded stuff since the demo that won them the tip for 06 on this site...

shambolic live but that nob of a singer has clearly listened to way too many Silver Mt Zion records.
I found his attempted carbon copy of Efrim to be unsettling and painful.
Just go and see the real (and much better) thing is my advice.
Their name
makes me think of a group of ugly students, who are probably deluded into thinking they're doing something 'different'.
I will never listen to them if I can help it. I already hate them.

You'll be glad to hear that as shit as they are on record, live, they are the most inept, tedious, formulaic, pretentious, frankly shitty piles of shit that were ever laid. And fully fit the caricature of ugly student rubbish that you sketch out there.
When I was 14, for Black History Month, a bunch of us were roped in to form bands and play a selection of tunes for the entertainment of other students, our parents and the staff. We played what I'm sure was a hilariously poor version of No Woman No Cry - the kind of quality you'd expect from a band of 13 year olds who can't really play.
It was probably still better than anything TSDOLE have ever done.

Not to come off like a tech snob - but you are blatantly only in a band because you see it as cool. That's the only reason I can think of for your utter contempt for the audience expressed through your playing. Donate your £39.99 Argos bass to an inner-city comprehensive and just get a job in a bank. And give me my £6 back. You hipster Shoreditch doofus.

played with these guys twice
i like them. Not sure about the signs and stuff, not something I'd do myself, but they create a hell of a noise at times - impressive live for sure.
Slightly amusing anecdote - first time we played with them they had a pretty big rider, which due to its size, we assumed was for us as well - we ate about ten penguins, and they complained to the promoter, who came over and told us off for eating their penguins, before going to the shop to replace them. We made friends after that though, nice guys!

For all their heavy-handedness and morbidity they're strangely fun and thrilling.

They've just announced
another gig in Brussels on a different day so I guess I'll be able to make my own opinion on their live performances.

wasn't mad about them
but they had one great tune - a doomy sort of dirgey thing - any ideas? And for some reason I quite liked the signs. And they seemed nice enough folks. And never fuck with a touring band's penguins.
Live they are beyond shit.
One of the few bands that can make me leave a room.
