I'm currently straddling a promo version of Chuck Palahniuk 'Haunted' and Bukowski 'Pulp'.
Gonna need something new to read soon- anyone read the Contortionist Handbook?
Very thorough indeed, covers the whole family. Not read any others to comment but there can't be many more comprehensive books about his upbringing, affairs, family values etc.
i'm reading American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis...i made the mistake of watching the film first though, the book is 15 times better. There is sooooo much the film misses out on...
Ive also just started to read Little People by Tom Holt, which is an extremely funny book...Holt is a fantastic writer...
Finished The Lovely Bones - that was good but dragged in places. I'm now waiting for No Logo and Lucky, an autobiographical story from The Lovely Bones writer.
hey im reading that too. You were right tho, since I saw the film i keep hearing Christian Bales voice, and seeing every scene exactly how it happened in the film.
That bit with the Rat is fucking disgusting, anyone who has read this will know what im on about...
Currently reading Michael Palin 'Himalaya', which owns the travel book genre, and Bill Bryson's 'History of Nearly Everything', which owns the great book on the toilet genre.
'Seven years Of Plenty'. It's a book analysing the music between 1991 and 1998 (Beck, Beasties, Aphex Twin, Bjork, Pavement...), and it's VERY well written by Ben Thompson. It's only £2 in Music Zone, money well spent!
I've just started Cloud Atlas and am hoping it'll be rather good.
No Logo - read it a few years ago and although it starts well and there are several great chapters, it isn't the eye-opening masterpiece it was acclaimed as.
John Fante was great, Arturo Bandini was such a good character. Have you read his first book Road To Los Angeles? It's another Bandini book, it had me in stitches.
Carter beats the Devil is fucking fantastic - it's really well written and atmospheric and all those lit-critic things but it's just such a *great* story. Perfect holiday reading.
Ulysses by james joyce. Which is confusing and doesn't seem to be going anywhere (i'm about 140 pages in). But i'm going to keep going. Probably. Before that i read the godfather by mario puzo. Which was great.
Just started Saturday by Ewan McEwan or whatever his name is. After that i've got Another Bullshit Night In Suck City to read, any book with that title has to be great.
At the moment its the Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, classic, before that it was A Million little pieces by James Frey, which I thoroughly reccomend to anyone.
Cloud atlas is awesome if a little frustrating every now & then. Lags a bit in the middle too...
life of pi's awsome. i'm reading fierce invalids home from a hot climate, and the water babies. save money on acid, just read that book, it's trippy as hell. oh and romeo and juliet for english. fun fun fun
I just got 'how we are hungry' short stories by DAve Eggers im hoping it isn't a let down like 'you shall know our velocity' sample title:
'what it means when a crowd in a far away county takes a soldier representing your own nation, shoots him, drags him from his vehicle and then mutilates him in the dust'
The last great book I read was 'happiness' by Will Ferguson, it's the book douglas coupland would have written if he hated people.
A forgettable spy novel by Deaver, whose title I forget. Time Quake by Vonnegut. Not a great swan song for KV but it is KV afterall. I think I'm gonna check out another by the World According to Garp author, whose name also escapes me.
the last book i read was 'the power and the glory' by graham greene. i had to read it all for my english dissertaion, and it is very boring if you dont read it all at once.
it has a good message though.
I've not read The Contortionist's Handbook, but I have heard good things so it's on my to-read list. Along with some hundred others I will get around to reading sometime.
If you're after suggestions, sean, most Palahniuk fans I've spoken to seem to like Will Christopher Baer's stuff. Kiss Me, Judas (first in his Poe trilogy, soon to be a movie?) is pretty strange and along the same modern noir-ish lines.
Just now, I'm reading Naked Lunch (William S Burroughs) and I just finished Skinny Legs And All (Tom Robbins).
I read Kiss Me, Judas recently, really enjoyed it..and yeah, very noir and twisted but beautifully written in places too. I need to get hold of his others, i'll be interested to see how a movie turns out.
I'm currently reading The Restaurant At The End of the Universe by Douglas Adams. Anyone looking forward to the Hitchhikers.. movie?
Currently racing through Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy which I picked up ages ago from a charity shop. It's really really good although the made up science bits get a bit much this time. Arthur Dent, hero for our time. Love the fact digital watches are the pinnacle of technology in it. Probably daft to read it just before the film but hey ho glad I am.
anthony kieldis biography. i've read it 4 times and it keeps getting better. and i just finished the 13 and a half lives of captain bluebear. it's not what it sounds like. its the story of a bear as he travels through this place called zamonia. it's so so good
The Great Gatsby is one of the best novels ever written - I did it for A-Level English Lit soooo long ago but still re-read it every now and again, and remember loads of passages. Take your time and enjoy the language, some of it is just stunning.
Re: what's everyone reading at the moment?
What is this Contortionists Handbook of which you speak? I have hypermobility, if that's any use?

For non-fiction, several different books on 17th century protestantism, and a history of anarchism. All good.
