I fucking love this film. I don't know why. I wish i lived on that island in that society, and the all saints song that went along with the film is fucking brilliant
I saw the film, then a few years later read the book, then watched the film again, then read the book again. I just don't know who Richard is or what he looks like anymore.
I went out with Alison King's niece. (she was 'Linda Block' in dream team and I believe is now in corrie) And also she said I was 'fit' apparently. So isn't that great.
LOL.
I'm better than you.
at.....................
Everything.
Seriously, everything.
i like the song
hate the film
It's the only All Saints song I like
I love the film
still slowly working my way through the book.
wouldn't want to live there though! although the mass amount of weed is pretty sweet, but there is the threat of being shot by angry Thai's.
Preferred the book..............
but they had to yank it up for the American market and for the sake of securing the requisite funding.
yeah I've only got about halfway through
but already spotted some major differences, and of course the added love story to keep the viewers interested.
The book
is far superior, saying that I do enjoy the film, even if it is a bit wrong in parts.
Read the book recently
Got confused when they said Richard had black hair, then I realised I was thinking of the film.
Excellent anecdote.
I had a similar experience
I saw the film, then a few years later read the book, then watched the film again, then read the book again. I just don't know who Richard is or what he looks like anymore.
plus they totally miss out Jed
My brother is in the beach
I tell everybody this. It's one of my two slightly dubious claims to fame.
whats the other?
I'm glad you asked...
I went out with Alison King's niece. (she was 'Linda Block' in dream team and I believe is now in corrie) And also she said I was 'fit' apparently. So isn't that great.
good work
the book - awesome
the film - a travesty
hate the film
as it managed to destroy the book in every way possible. I like the book.
The book - passable pulp fiction
the movie - atrocious Hollywood guff
its really not though, is it?
LOOK AT THE VISUALS
WOWZER
you know the story
about the beach used in the film, right?
yeah, so?
It still looked cool, was well shot, reasonably well acted etc
I won't argue with you.
Read the book, though.
you wish you lived there?!
Alex Garland must weep daily. THE WHOLE POINT IS TO TELL YOU THAT GOING ON GAP YEARS TO THAILAND IS POINTLESS AND PATRONISING AND DESTRUCTIVE! Gah.
Yeah
he went on a Gap year there so you don't have to.
The Beach is one of the worst books I ever read. Truly awful.
I ACTUALLY AGREE WITH PINBALLFORTRESS
Should I just give up now?
Isn't the book about Alex Garland patronising you with his
"You people just go to Thailand on holiday and look what happens. Me? I LIVE that place. I know it all. I'm not like you, I am someone who *travels*"
The Tesseract is great; the Beach is really nothing special.
i liked it
but then i havent read the book.
