I've always wanted to get into them but never have. I've heard a few bits and bobs, French Disko obv, but which of their records should I put on my wish list first?

emperor tomato ketchup

and refried ectoplasm are mtop of my list for classic stereolab, otherwise dots and loops and mars audiac quintet are also my faves..

^^pretty much spot-on

Though I'd rank Transient Random Noise Bursts with Announcements above Mars Audiac Quintet. And Switched On is great too. Be wary of anything after Dots & Loops.

She is playing Bush Hall

8th October... Lil' Lost Lou is supporting...

see if you track down the work with sonic boom

or at least the later with jools holland tracks. i always reckoned that when sonic boom joined stereolab, for a short time they were near perfect. i saw them play in manchester with sonic and tortoise and its one of my favourite ever gigs.

though you'll need a small fortune (around £450) to buy one the very rare stereolab / sonic boom singles.

Emperor is proably the best album as a whole

Refried Ectoplasm is a brilliant compilation and essential.

I thought the last two proper albums were great with some of their warmest sounding songs.

Maybe leave Cobra Phases till last.

Thanks v much!

I'm gonna start with Emporor Tomato Ketchup and Refried Ectoplasm (yuk!), as soon as someone buys them for me, that is.

peng

the first and the best

Cobra and phases

Isn't their best album by a long, long way but you have to download the last track 'come play in the milky night' which is quintessential sterolab and one of my favourite tracks by any band.
