In June I've finished my last year in gymnasium, which in Denmark is the last education step before the university.
I don't feel prepared to study at the university already, because I both want to speak a better English and I want to have a more wide-ranging outlook on life.
I've some ideas about moving to Britain for one or two years, but where in Britian would it be best for me to live?
Right now i'm in possession of about 3000 £, and it is possible for me to earn some more if it is a necessary.
Right now I'm live in a kind of a hum drum town, and I've lived there all my life, which is 19 years, so it would be great to live in a town with a population at over 500 000 inhabitans, and with pleasure in a one-room flat...
Are there any recommendation for a town with fair rent and a interesting culture
swanage
.
Islington in about 1963
i'd be so jealous if you coulld do this
what was the deal with islington in 1963?
.
Sunderland
is meant to be wicked.
Liverpool - Capital of Culture 2008 (H)
...
Liverpool as the 'capital of culture' is the most hilarious thing I've heard for such a long time.
why?
I can only presume you've never been there.
Glasgow's really good
and pretty cheap i imagine, for a city of its size.
Only since I've got a job have i realised how many foreign people there are here. I must'ave heard about 6 different languages tonight whilst i was stacking the shelves. pretty cool.
As long as you can get somewhere to stay in the west end, you're sorted. Everywhere else is a shit hole, bordering on a shit hole, or next to a shit hole.
...
Stunning advert.
HULL!
I hear its amazing.
The sensible answer is
London.
With Manchester as a close second perhaps.
Do you have any friends in the UK at all?
...
I was actually gonna post Hull when I first saw this thread.
But then I thought I was feel really bad if he took my advice.
Living in Great Britain
Liverpool and Manchester sounds interesting and Glasgow too. I think London is too expensive, but it is a wet dream after living in a village with about 2000 inhabitants in almost two decades in one of the smallest countries in Europe =) ...
The only people from Britain I have met was some very friendly people at the streets of Edinburgh when I was ?=#¤?)( drunk...
Is there a site on the internet which is particular good to check out prices and rents for flats in GB?
If you get a flat in a student area
or town in Liverpool you will have a really amazing time, been to Manchester a few times and it is also ace... I'd choose one of those two.
Oh and I'm looking at renting in Liverpool atm aswell and it can be really cheap.
Just make sure if you do move you get in an alright area.
He'd meet loads of people in Liverpool too.
Everyone's lovely in Liverpool.
If you go to the right areas...
Or nightclubs...
Liverpool has a lot of very horrible people in it.
But you don't have to see them!
Gumtree.com
has loads of classified ads for different towns and cities.
Upmystreet.com can give you a rough idea of what an area is like, though it's based on statistical assumptions rather than the actual area.
Edinburgh is a transient city
where everything shuts around 9pm
Move to Glasgow for a truly amazing music scene and a great spirit of co-operation around all the creative arts
??
everything is open later in edinburgh than in glasgow?
granted glasgow has a (better) music scene...
that
was meant to mean - 'i was under the impression everything was open later in edinburgh....'
they're only open late to the transients
though, you Edinburgh indigenous types are kept well away from decent folk by high prices and sharp eyed doormen ;)
i'd never realised,
i feel cheated by my own city
move to Glasgow
we have an established underground network of sympathisers prepared to shelter yous
oh my god this is the cutest thing ever.
glasgow's a really great place to live, there's lots of things to do, it's relatively easy to find a job and the rent is pretty cheap.
You can't get much cheaper than rent on Teesside.
Culture? What's that?
...
Beans and brown sauce.
and parmos
i would actually go to teeside just to have a parmo.
*teesside
sorry
...
We have those in London. But they call it Vomit-In-A-Box.
the case for sheffield:
It's easily the cheapest of the top 5 populated cities.
It has a few amazing gigs and nights ,and loads of ok ones.
I'm here.
The people are 200% more friendly than in manchester.
Safest city in the uk (in terms of voilent crime per 1000 people).
The cheapest places to live are, strangely, amongst the nicest.
It's only 2 1/2 hours away from London (or pretty much anywhere important).
jees louise
I'm moving there tomorrow

Glasgow is great.
everyone else has stated the case for it better than I ever could!
The case for Bournemouth
1). I spoke to Harry Redknapp once on Canford Cliffs High Street, he was very nice. Actually, that's a suburb of neighbouring Poole so forget that.
2). Nice milkshakes at Legends and Shakeaway (your house may be at risk if you do not keep up repayments).
3). Eddie Argos from Art Brut is from here.
4). There's a pub in Boscombe where you can have amusing discussions about 'hardcore' for several minutes before you establish whether the person you're conversing with is referring to punk, dance music or porn.
5). Rents are similar to London, but, the salaries are 40% as a result you'll become an urban survival expert.
6). The beach, a proper sandy one not like that rocky strip in Brighton* and Boscombe will shortly be home to the Northern hemisphere's first artificial surf reef.
*Brighton is a better place in every other respect though.
7). Mega transient population (on account of the old people dying and student/traveller/foreign worker types arriving) so there are always new people to meet.
8). http://www.chezfred.co.uk/
9).http://www.sixtymillionpostcards.com/
salaries are 40% lower
oh and.........
10). You're only a very short distance from the New Forest/Purbecks if you like the outdoors/MTB etc
Manchester
