Can someone please recommned me some good club nights in Leeds? I am so tired of all this freshers crap. I'll be happy with anywhere that plays Sonic Youth.

Idioteque
where the basement used to be under the merrion centre.
the flyer i have lists:
Sonic Youth, Pavement, Wolf Parade, Idlewild, Bowie, Radiohead and loads more of good stuff i cant remember
it's the first friday of every month i.e this friday coming up
+1 For Idioteque
By far the best club night I've been to in the two years I've spent in Leeds. They even played some Madonna era Trail of Dead.
It's also the only indie night that I've been to in Leeds that wasn't full of poser tossers who would be at Gatecrasher if indie wasn't in fashion at the moment.
.
yeh im a first year at the music college in leeds and pretty much all of the freshers stuff is really shit...
theres a really nice bar called sela near primark in the center which has good live music sometimes...
also 12th october - upstairs in the library pub theres a night with really good music on...like jeffrey lewis, daniel johnston, belle and sebastien, magnetic fields, herman dune, the fall, etc...
strangeways at the wire also has good stuff...not sure when its on...but jeffrey lewis is guest djing 19th of october i think...
thats all i know of...
jeffrey lewis will have good tunes
anyway, club nights.
i don't go to them anymore becuase i am too old for leeds.
well
first Friday of every month is the Tea Time Shuffle at the HiFi club. Lots of ace bands followed by club night. Starts at 6.30pm
Also Strangeways at Wire
http://www.myspace.com/strangewaysclub
Badsneakers at The Fav which is every saturday
www.myspace.com/thefaversham
i wish i was young enough for the faversham
Inde pop night @ The Library...
Not sure about SY, but Jeff Lewis, Pavement, etc...
cheers
for all the suggestions. Idioteque sounds pretty good so I might give that a try.
.
just in case you like breakcore too... you should go to polyphonic at the common place this friday. yup.
You should go to a pub called
The Three Legs.
It's amazing.
Three Legs
Thats cruel :-)
the following nights sound good in leeds
fake hips - the library i think
idioteque - subculture, fridays
heads up - the fav, thursdays
bad sneakers is reliable, pigs at hi fi is alright, gigantic is ok
but basically go into crash or jumbo records and go to the flyers. there's about a million of new nights springing up all the time which sound promising :)
Go to the Wardrobe on Saturday
Luke Vibert and Kid606, innit.
Can't wait for tonight's Idioteque
George Pringle's playing too, which should be fun. I went last time and they played When I Argue I See Shapes, My Friend Goo, Geek USA, A Boy Like Me, For Reverend Green, various CYHSY, Modest Mouse and Shins tracks...it's a good mix, and probably one of the better nights in town that I've come across so far.
Other than that, there's next Saturday - the Brighton Beach clubnight is on at the union in the main university. Apparently there's a decent riotgrrl type night at the Common Place every month, called Suck My Left One, but I've not been to that yet either. Kenickie were the first band on the flyer. I take that as a good sign.
Is there some sort of Kenickie revivial underway amongst the nation's indie teens?
I was 16 or so when they were at their 'peak' and I can't remember anyone thinking they were anything other than shite.
*revival
.
Is there?
If there is, I didn't get that memo.
Wire
Its in the top bracket of indie clubs.
And it has nights where it plays all that rubbishy DiS stuff that I've never heard of.
Everyone who's anyone goes to Wire though.
I tend to sneak out after about an hour and go and dance to the R&B next door. Is it Mylo next door? I think that's her name.
the guys
from norman records always seem to know about good stuff going on in leeds but i am generally about 3000 miles away, except that time last year when i was in leeds and danced as a pirate in what was probably idioteque and that time i was in leeds also last year when i went to the fav and for sure they played sonic youth...i danced less like a pirate and more like a spastic to shy child
Brudenell Social Club
Not my bag but seen a few good nights there.
Alas, I'd recommend the Soul Circus on weekends but I hear it closed down.
Not from Leeds,
but 'The Mixing Tin', 'The Vine'& 'The Cardigan arms' was recommended to me.
Just as general music venues.

The Mixing Tin
is now called 'Trash', which is the worst alteration in history, but it's probably still good.
worst venue in the world.
I went last week and it made me want to die.
Idioteque last Friday
Thanks to this thread, I was almost (though not actually) tempted to ask the people who were getting as excited as I was about "When I Argue I See Shapes" followed by "Holland, 1945" if they were on DiS.
Still, that's the best one-two punch I've heard in a club in some time - the two songs I pretty much specifically came there to hear, in a row. My voice has still yet to recover.
i realised on friday
that i actually went to the very first one.. how cool am i..
anyway, soul circus used to be pretty nifty for little independant club nights, but then it set fire/had management issues/something and that stopped happening.. but a fair few of the nights that were there are now elsewhere.. ASBO and suck my left one would be worth looking at..
idioteque was great on friday
i heard some sonic youth, smashing pumpkins, idlewild, neutral milk hotel amongst other good stuff i didnt recognise.
the 2 live acts on before the DJ set were AWFUL though
that spoken word thing was dire
Oh George Pringle
She's alright sometimes...it's very knowing, and easily irritating, but aside from the bits where she just lists bands and things ("The Killers! The Futureheads! The Killers! The Futureheads! Yeah Yeah Yeahs! Yeah Yeah Yeahs!"), she does write good lyrics.
I seem to remember pitching her to someone who was going with me as "a Saturday Guardian magazine column set to Tetris music."
haha
she was a big hit at truck: "my mental bank account is overdrawn".
"No more post-rock!"
"Your guitar's an extension of your cock!"
"tony the tiger is dead"
...
how about get the fuck off the stage you dizzy bitch
Ha!
I'd totally forgotten about that bit. Me and my mate were making mock crying faces.
raised by wolves
electro/punk-funk/techno/grime/disco
a bit like wax:on i guess but small
first tuesday of the month at Hifi its mint
