i began listening to punk funk music after visiting the cd shop and got such music introduced by the store owner. James Chance and the Contortions' is like a blend of free jazz with a heavy, modern dancing beat going along with it. This band's part of the New York's No Wave movement during the late 70s and early 80s... they were one of the key figures rilly.
well if your interested go check them out . real cool.

ps. does anyone know where to download more of his songs? cuz i only got a few ... thanks ahead of time

Re: James Chance and the Contortions

They did that Contort Yourself song didn't they?
That's good, no idea where to find any stuff though.

Re: James Chance and the Contortions

soulseek/limewire?

Re: James Chance and the Contortions

yeah i've heard of soulseek, but i dunno how to use it cuz there'r all these rooms and u seem to need to know people to get into rooms... i dunno if i'm right / not tho

Re: James Chance and the Contortions

Abso-fucking-lutely brilliant band. One of the most forward thinking bands of their time. Up there with Can, Glen Branca, The Velvet Underground and Godspeed in my book.

The No New York compilation's got 4 of their tracks on it and has some pretty interesting stuff (though I can't stand Lydia Lunch):

Re: James Chance and the Contortions

you don't need to go into rooms on soulseek, just search.

anyway, buy "Buy" by (phew...) the Contortions and look at what he did as James White & The Blacks.

fucking amazing.

les Contorsions

Yeah, that No New York comp

is wicked as an introduction to no-wave.

Get (And go).

And then listen to Twisted Charm.
