Mark Ronson has revealed that he and Amy Winehouse are to return to the studio in November to record the follow-up to the Back in Black opus.

The pair worked together on Winehouse's last record, which came out around this time in 2006. Now, they are plotting the sequel:

“As soon as I finish up the Daniel Merriweather record I am going back into the studio with Amy Winehouse to work on her new record,” he told Rolling Stone.

“She is actually dying to go back into the studio already. I was in London last weekend and I saw Amy and we actually talked about maybe finding a studio together.

"She is kind of ready now but we are on tour and she can’t go in November because she is on tour, so we are figuring it out.”

Talking about what the record might sound like, Ronson implied the - in this situation, at least - golden couplet 'Phil Spector'; added to it the phrase 'Wall of Sound' and made DiS lick its collective lips off.

“I think that we can’t do the same thing again — it can’t be like a Sixties element or Motown. If anything, I’d really like to make it sound older or more morbid or like really wall of sound.”

The covers may be wank, but the thought of Ms Winehouse echoing off one of Spector's walls...

And of course

nothing is less Sixties soul or redolent of Back To Black than a Spector Wall Of Sound production.

Can

this cunt not ruin everything?? first he smashes a Smiths songs into fuckery and now he is going for Spector...Who does he think he is?? Brian Wilson...Well he is not he is Mark fucking ronson, and Mark fucking Ronson is a cunt...

the end

more supermarket

muzak funk on it's way

Testing testing

Amy Whinehouse you are a bint
You're in desperate need of a mint
Cos I can smell your whorish breathe
Too harsh to ask for an early death?

*breath

confound you Winehouse

I'm not usually one for cheap shots

but I've not seen a photo of her, until then, she's pretty ugly.

"She is actually dying"
I wish I didn't read the rest of the sentence, it was reasonable until then.

As simon_t points out - how exactly is 'wall of sound' production not a 'sixties element'??

Am I mis-reading this?

Anyway, this cat needs to lose charley and latch on to nu-kroon.

Mark Ronson is a fairly good producer

most of the people who say otherwise know precisely dick all

and in this particular case "wall of sound" doesn't mean Spector will be the reference point. It probably means the record will be designed with the general music avenues in mind, either making it sound good for the radio or, god forbid, producing it for the 128kbps iTunes, iPod headphones market. EURGH

how is

wall of sound not Spector...everything is wall of sound now if you want to pick at it. Spector just was the first to record multiple parts of the same instrument and part to create a denser sound and depth to a track.

And ronson is shit, he produces good tracks because he has all the right equipment and one idea. Give me his studio and 2 months and ill make a better album than Version and i may even write a couple of the tracks myself.

The article

suggests that he implied Spector. Spector and his Wall of Sound are generally associated with the '60s (although - yes- its considerable impact is still 'reverberating' today).

Unless the writer is completely mis-representing what he said.

Ronson is a pop producer

and he works very well within those boundaries.

Spector was also a self-consciously pop producer, but he was working in respect to different criteria. The transistor no longer exists, its new form being the FM car radio, the myspace stream, the TV speaker - i imagine Ronson will be transposing a Spectorish mindset onto these criteria. That is, he'll be making his music with these popular mediums in mind

Now, i didn't hear a great deal of his previous work, but it would seem to me that his sound seemed to be coming from an old school soul mindset. Dynamic, subtle - designed for the hifi rather than the radio. So you could say his Spector interest is pushing him in the wrong direction, maybe causing him to inadvertently abandon the techniues that have made him so popular. Or it might make him even more popular, who knows?

personally,

i would prefer rather than this over produced Ronson nonsense that she take the Neil Young 70's way and get sloshed on tequila and send out an album that's a glorious, heart felt mess. she could carry that off methinks.

can't she just

not make more crap?

^

bit precious aren't we ?

Absolute Ronsense

This is a new term I've just come up with in order to describe the man's work. Feel free to use it.

No, he's not

He really is not. He's a god awful producer. He's an average DJ who has good contacts and a kitted out studio. That's what he is.

And you can't say 'wall of sound' without Spector being the reference point.

And Winehouse would be a million times more bearable if she'd work with someone who's actually a good producer.

They've got to get her in the studio smartish

so that they'll have something to release when she snuffs it.
