Artists: Radiohead

Are you as intrigued as we are about how many people are currently listening to In Rainbows?

We’ve been chatting up our friends at Last.fm, The audio tracking and tastemaking site, and they have showed us a sneak peek of listens to the record by their users in the last 24 hours – pretty much as up to date as you can get.

As you can see (bottom of the page), most people have only had a chance to listen to the record a couple of times. However, there are over 12,500 In Rainbow listeners who are registered Last.fm users so far. Unsurprisingly, album opener ‘15 Step’ is the most popular track but that will change in the next few days, meaning we'll have to wait a while before a 'definitive' favourite track emerges.

15 Step’ has been listened to over 22000 times so far. If we judge that the album’s been available for 12 hours, DiS’ rather tenuous grasp of maths reckons that as one listen every 2 seconds. Impressive stuff…

As a comparison, OK Computer has 366,761 listeners since it was released; Radiohead have had 48,668,615 plays scrobbled, and 908,841 listeners overall.

Thank you specifically to Christian at Last.fm for the help and statistics.

Listeners per song:
15 Step 12543
Bodysnatchers 11633
Nude 11224
Weird Fishes/Arpeggi 10404
All I Need 10150
Faust Arp 9856
Reckoner 9422
House Of Cards 8968
Jigsaw Falling Into Place 8618
Videotape 8512

I've already decided what the best track is.

Don't worry anymore! It's 'Reckoner'.

Nice try

But it's House of Cards.

It's actually

Nude

Sorry

It's you are All I Want

;.

clearly arpeggi though innit

I've changed my mind

Jigsaw Falling Into Place is the best.

That won't even be the best track called House of Cards on an album this year

That will go to the Coopers, it was one of the best tracks on the album

this is correct

I am naming my firstborn "Reckoner".

...this is not entirely true.

Reckoner would be an amazing name for a kid

They'd simply HAVE to become a crimefighting superhero.

so how can 15 step be listened to over 22,000 times

and yet, only 12,543 times?

that's 12,500 *listeners*

not *listens*

yeah.

news stories are misleading.

obviously I meant

All I Need

...

I do love the fact that no matter what else happens today, no one will be talking about anything about In Rainbows.

If Pete wants some attention in the next few days, short of finding Maddy McCann in Winehouse's beehive, he's going to have to pull something really special out of the bag.

:D

I'd happily have Pete eclipse In Rainbows newswise

Providing of course it was concerning a suicide of sorts.

Yes

Yes it is. Seeing as though you can get it for nothing, just listen yourself.

the law of

diminsihing returns, by those figures.

12 hours?!?1

WOAH RADIOHEAD!

IT'S LIKE THE MOST REVOLUTIONARY ALBUM EVERZ!!!!!!

... meh.

I love this article.

The album is so talked about we now have a news article essentially saying "people are listening to the new Radiohead album."

You know about a year ago I was thinking that Radiohead's best years were behind them and that people had lost interest. They are still obviously huge. (By the way, I love Radiohead).

So by those stats at the end

a third of listeners gave up by the end of the album?

lmao

Anyone who belives the Last.FM 'user' stats is insane.

eh

why so?

If you don't

sit perfectly still and listen to an album in its entirety, you are no fan of music!

Apart from

If it makes you want to get up and dance, shout, scream, and basically, shake your booty, of course.
In all seriousness though, sadly, listening to seperate tracks seems to be far more prevalent now than thinking of the whole album as a body of work.

not sure

if I should just write a review, or post this on a random board, this is what my ears think of the new album"Tommie- in rainbows wish these speakers were a bit better says (21:49):
if ears could cum, mine would be pregnant"

Can anyone explain this last.fm stuff?

Because, by christ, it sounds like a load of shit to me.

Jesus...

...I hate Radiohead

But...

...they love you!

works like this

1. You add a little widget to your computer
2. The "scrobbler" then logs everytime you play a track and logs it to the last.fm database
3. When you've played over 100 tracks it begins to learn your taste and create a radio station of things you like and things, based on what people who've listened to similar things to you, that you might like.
4. It can also do things like create charts of things you've most listened to, recommend similar acts to a certain act (and play streams of it) and stuff like that.

Basically think of the amazon people who bought this also bought thing (or the DiS similar artists things) but with clever online streaming stuff.

Come on...

...I'm a Radiohead fan, but this veritable news supernova is getting a little bit ridiculous. I wonder how many breaths Thom Yorke has taken since In Rainbows became available for download. Or how many times he's pissed, and in to what kind of urinal? Does he favour the armitage shanks of public bathrooms or the comforts of home?

hahaha

I love the way those numbers shed a third by the end of the album.

I'm sure

many people from my school will accidentally quote you...
