I love:

Hickling (Norfolk)
The view from Bamburgh Beach (Northumberland - the castle in the mist! Oh man!)
Robin Hood's Bay (Yorkshire)
Most of the Lake District

Seriously

Anyone living in London who has not been to Trent Park is missing out on a huge swathe of green within tube distance.

^^^ this

Home.

the dales and the north york moors

some of the north yorks coast, the lakes, cornwall.... so basically all of it with minimal buildings.

to order:

1) Yorkshire Dales
2) Lake District
3) North York Moors
4) Cornwall (the pretty bits)

i suddenly feel patriotic

that, or it's just the nicest part of britain.

Not been to Cornwall,

but the others are all fine choices.

I prefer the Moors to the Dales though.

no no, the dales are perfect

the moors are very beautiful. but the dales are actual perfect. i couldn't think of anywhere in the world nicer. more magnificent, yes, but the dales are probably the best example of perfect understated beauty.

No.

The moors are starker. Bleaker. I like that.

the dales have aysgarth falls though!

i guess the dales probably have more meaning to me, we'd go to the moors every week, but we spent so much of my childhood in the dales, every bit of it has so many memories.

but anyhow, both are remarkably beautiful.

Coral Reef

Bracknell.

I want to live by the sea

Maybe Cornwall. I went there on holiday and it was beautiful.

Or the Lake District, which is amazing.

Naz Chicken and Chips

Herschel Street, Slough.

The Lake District

Went there for the first time the other weekend and its flippin beautiful. Turns out everyone else knew that though.

That or Bristol. Its the awesomes.

Cornwall

the more i think about it

the south really is quite rubbish in comparison. there's some nice bits in the south west, but it more or less stops there.

am i supposed to know what or where that is?

it certainly sounds ugly.

It's famous

for roundabouts and Billie Piper. And for being the first place people name as an example of a crappy place to live. That and Milton Keynes.

I agree

I love the South but in all honesty even the supposedly good looking bits are a bit flat and boring compared to the north.

Lake District and Peak District = much better than New Forest, Dorest and Cornwall.

The North-West Highlands of Scotland

is easily the most beautiful part of the UK
failing that, rural South Shropshire

Ludlow

Reprazent

Rural gloucestershire

Is underrated.

yeah!

Bibury is lovely when it's not mega-full of tourists. Which is hardly ever.

...

- North Norfolk and the local towns and pubs and beaches
- The Malvern Hills
- parts of Kent like, Wadhurst, Mayfield, Cowden
- East London (Victoria Park, Broadway Market for vibe and local characters - the people)
- Buxton area
- Devon and Cornwall

Oh god, The New Forrest and the wild ponies

I've been there a million times. I love that area too. I forgot to mention it.

new forest is lovely.

i went to 6th form at brockenhurst - absolutely gorgeous round there.

I live on the malvern hills

Trust me you'd get bored. After a month of staring at the hills and then realise there is nothing else to do.

this is my favourite

Aberystwyth - about the 5th one along is my dad's flat.

Portmeirion

Amazing place - it's where the Prisoner was set!

Bodnant Gardens are great too, it's like wandering around a Studio Ghibli film.

Deffo

The Peak Disrict and the York Moors....I grw up near to Bamos and someone else here (i can't remember who) and it's an incredible part of the country.

hello, can anyone

recommend a nice place to go in the lake district?

this thread has reminded me that i've always wanted to go there but don't have a clue as to where exactly.

any recommendations???

how long would you want to go for?

and with what method of transport to get around?

a weekend probably

i can't drive so somewhere you don't need to drive around to get to places would be ideal!

we usually head for the west

where you've got sort of Eskdale, Loweswater, Ennerdale and Wastwater - it's very pretty and I tend to find less touristy than some of the other areas, but that'd be a lot of walking/cycling.

So Windemere and Coniston might be the best bet, they're the two biggest (i think, well, coniston is big anyway) and close together, there's some nice walks around, and they're close to kendal too.

though when it comes to cycling in the lakes

it's got to be planned, else you find yourself sitting in front of an almost vertical 'hill' and get a bit stuck, this happens wuite often. the walking routes are good though, and i imagine there's a pretty decent route between coniston and windemere.

and i'm not sure if there's a bus

i imagine there my well be one from kendal, but the south lakes animal park near barrow-in-furness is absolutely brilliant.

this is great!

thank you. :)

I have only ever stayed in Windermere

near the lake. I went boating on it with school and it confirmed my water motion sickness. It's very pretty around there but I'm tooooo much of a city person to have a favourite place that's all scenic.

I don't have one full stop

There are places I think are very pretty/beautiful in Oxford/Staffordshire/lake district. I just don't have a favourite place in Britain.

Ambleside

thats where I stayed the other week, right on the end of Windemere (in a bit of the town called Waterhead). Amazing hotel called the Waterhead - cant recommmend it highly enough.

Town was nice too and really near to most stuff/also on the lake which you could get boats from and use them as public transport if you dont have a car.

I loved it.

yeah!

Achill Island

owns this thread. It's where all my family are from and is one of the nicest places ever (when it's not raining).

I really like Oxford

and walking round spotting places from Inspector Morse :(

also Birmingham

I love sitting here and people-watching: http://www.top-city-photos.com/images/birmingham-cathedral1.JPG

I have lots of favourite places!
