Meat Puppets?!

Holy shit!

FUCKING HELL

OH MY
MY HEART EXPLODING

MEAT PUPPETS
LES SAVY FAV

meat puppets.

meat puppets.
oh my.

are they trying to pick a band

that represent all the major swear words?

I presume Selfish Cunt will be next.

shit and shine?

fuck sake. i wish atp/eat your own ears would get over this band.

wha?

eh?

no age, les savy and hot chip

sweeeeeeeeeet

also

one of the best hardcore bands of the 80s. meat puppets. :D

they were at the start

and then became a twisted fantastic multi-genre band. but their hardcore stuff is up there with husker du.

you know best

well i said it because

i know phil likes hardcore. its better than me saying 'yeah some of their stuff is really cool like early zz top.' which is true but might put him off.

watch it

i think you're talking about one of her favourite bands too enthusiastically again.

and you saying that before

makes you... what?

...but

I quite like some ZZ top. I have been meaning to investigate Meat Puppets for a while. I've always been kind of put off by the folk/country/neil young relationship they're sposed to have. As I've never really been that into that kind of stuff.

you appear

to also largely misunderstand neil young as well..

I've never heard them

except probably while I slept my way through the boredom of Nirvana Unplugged.

My old flatmate said something like "The thing about Kurt Cobain was that he was a total genius songwriter...but he had some really rubbish taste in bands."

I agree with the first half of that statement but I've never found out if the second half is true.

second half is fucking bullshit

and your friend should die swiftish

er

Shonen Knife. Rubbish.

silly man

the originals are so much better its stupid. they were pretty clever convincing him to play those songs too, they made more money from that then they did from everything they did in the rest of their careers combined

quite

i'd much prefer the original lake of fire.

I never claimed to

really. I just have a preconception that one day will be tested when I have a full wallet.

the thing is

if you have even a passing interest in dinosaur jr or built to spill or basically any guitar driven feedbacky stomping 90s alt rock, you're basically just listening to neil young cover versions. good ones though.

'Basic' in the sense of them both involving an electric guitar?

I mean, I like Neil Young and he has some great noisy bits in his songs but I wouldn't compare it to Dinosaur Jr. FFS.

ffs to you.

you need to listen to more neil young.
J's guitar and vocal styles are blatantly ny influenced.

Yeah and so are Radiohead's

Where does that leave you. Of course they sound similar but that's not that same as drawing wild lines of comparison.

radiohead sound

nothing like neil young. have you only heard harvest or something?

^

mascis takes a lot more from neil young that radiohead ever did.

he also won't admit it :D

the only vaguely

neil song i can think of by radiohead is high and dry. and thats only cos the vocals.

i dunno, creep sounds a lot like

cortez the killer to me

i am making you a

neil young cdr very soon. you will either get it on monday if you come, or i'll post it to you. this man made an hour i'll also do you a copy of some meat puppets stuff.

he made this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arc_%28album%29

which should at least be enough to interest you!

i have no idea how

the words 'this man made an hour' turned up in the middle of that. please ignore.

Pitchfork

for teh win

looking good

is it me or is it not the same ATP line up as before

pretty much?

Not that I've been before, and Camber is nearer so I think I might finally make it.

no

how is the same line up as before, ween, meat puppets, black angels, no age or hot chip have ever played before. So Les Savy Fav have played before- but how is the same line up?

pissed jeans havent played

before. neither have dirty projectors as far as i know. or apse.

or sebadoh

or glass candy

Glass Candy haven't

even played outside of North America before!

NO AGE!

Only a handful of bands have confirmed so far

It's not fair to judge until more bands have been added. I'm sure it'll be pretty diverse.

...

havent...dinosaur jr, lsf, bss, iron and wine, ween, eits played before?

Im not complaining like.

I cant decide between the weekends yet.

I'm

definitely going to Pitchfork. NO AGE!!!!!!!

this thread

is about the pitchfork lineup. but yeh the EITS lineup is very predictable.

this is a camber thread jesus

Yeah if Jesus went on the right thread we might know he was talking about the EITS weekend. Its only 6 bands we know about so far- i bet they will have a decent set of bands coming. Its like the Portishead one - everyone moaned at the first announcement and then as it went on, lots of people got excited by things like aphex, gza and the silver apples. Its too early to write off a whole event on 6 bands

i think with portishead

people were more curious and interested, whereas with this one they feel that EITS arent that legendary of a band and that the choices so far, though mainly good, are a little unsurprising. but yeh, it'll probably turn out great, as they always do.

mars volta werent a legendary band

but they picked some killer stuff and everyone moaned when they were first announced and then after awhile - people couldnt stop going on about how great the line up is. This forum is full of fickle people who as Jimmy said love a good miffle

volta

meant to say how good the line up was not is

Aaargh!

*head explodes*

I wish you'd stop posting this

EITS may be ONE SIXTH OF THE LINE UP but they are also PICKING ALL THE BANDS. As i said in that thread "They're such uninspired selections, and I hear nothing in EITS oeuvre to convince me that they're likely to pick anything vaguely interesting. Hopefully i'll be proved wrong..."

you are wrong

you dont know what you are talking about, you need to have faith in atp. 6 bands and you think you have worked out exactly who they will pick. you are clueless

Maybe you can enlighten me,

what sort of bands will EITS be picking?

well

since you seem to know so very well yourself - enough to write off the entire weekend, apparently - perhaps you'd care to tell us?

my main gripe

is that they wont pick andrew wk.

I can't see it being anything

other than "Alt-rock", By the numbers post-rock and insipid folk-rock. EITS do seem like the sum of their influences, there's nothing in their work to convince me that they might have a burning passion for anything that might coincide with my tastes, aside from perhaps Fridge (because of the Four Tet connection). I really, really hope i'm wrong, and they'll pick The Fall or Skream or something...

This is a bit ridiculous

you genuinely are writing off an entire ATP weekend after 6 bands.

I'm not convinced by the inital announcement but lets give it a chance.

Yyyyyyeah!

Shit & shine, No Age and LSF! This is shaping up to be AWESOME!

omg

meat puppets!
omg

Someone let me stay with them

(preferably someone I've met and like xxxxxxxx).
