Season 6 in USA, 7 in UK

The Star Wars Episode is AMAZING

No

it was horribly dull, no way near as good as the Robot Chicken episode referenced at the end.

^ dat

balls

the robot chicken was pretty bad, and pretty self indulgent with the "interviews" with seinrich and green and meyer.

It was a good episode. Fact

this is still going?

Urgh...

Why carry on?.

I get the impression the franchise is going to be squeezed for all it is worth, much like The Simpsons, until the jokes eventually begin to fall flat and people stop watching.

The Office had two series and a couple of Christmas specials in the UK if i'm not mistaken - just leave it at that, quit while the going is good for heavens sake.

The Christmas Specials of the Office

were worse than the very worst Simpsons, which are pretty awful too.

And the second series was weak as shit too.

Was it? i can't remember clearly enough.

Bad example then, but you get the idea.

Agreed.

I thought it was good, for the first couple of series, and then after watching the South Park episode I can't help but think it's really bad.

It doesn't have the cleverness and excellent social commentary of South Park or King of the Hill, and doesn't have the characters/storylines that make The Simpsons so good.

It is pretty much jokes that have absolutely no relevance to the (always pretty shit) plot or anything, just "zaney" references to popular culture.

You know what? I hate Family Guy!

The South Park

episode was a bit silly. It's a sketch show, to all intents and purposes. But it loosely follows a plot.

I think it was spot on, really.

Like it is about most things. Also all the references to the dutch cartoons were magnificent.

Well its point

was that Family Guy doesn't have a plot and the jokes don't slot in naturally. Which is true. But if you view it as a sketch show, those criticisms become meaningless.

Why view it as a sketch show, when it isn't though?

The fact is that it does attempt to revolve around a plot, one which is pretty much always bullshit.

How do you know what it's attempting?

Seems to me it's just concerned with being a silly show. What I'm getting at is, why does it matter if it doesn't have a very good plot? That's not where the majority of the humour comes from. It's just stupid jokes that come pretty frequently. 50% are pretty terrible, 50% are good, sometimes incredible.

Well, when the show does have a plot

then surely it attempts to have a plot? Doesn't exactly read well, but you know what I'm getting at.

And I agree that some of the jokes can be good, but I think it's rare. Especially as it always just seems to be - "let's build on a little quirk from this show/famous person/icon", the jokes just seem so formulaic.

And not having a very good plot does bother me, because I want something to hold my attention for 20 minutes, rather than waiting for maybe one good joke per episode. It just seems like bad writing.

f

Family Guy series 3 was the zenith - hilarious and plots that actually worked (despite the crappy musical numbers). 4 and 5 relied too much on "just like that time when I..." jokes, but were still pretty funny. Will probably pick up 6 at some point.

And The Office did become a bit more, well, obvious in the 2nd series. Revolved around set pieces and Brent dicking around rather than the natural comedy of the first. Did think the Xmas specials were great though.

Family Guy has ALWAYS been

"just like that time when I..." jokes. I got bored of that after the second series...

series 6..

is pretty good again so far, i was a bit "meh" about 4 and 5 but its worth getting into again.

Chris

sounds like J Mascis on Green Mind
