They had someone from Wire in them. I was really excited when I heard they were supporting Coil, but they sucked live. And on record they're evn worse.
i loved '...and they obey' single and thought the bsides were good too. i bought the album and it quickly dawned on me that they were quite, quite poor.
- then i went to see them play and i thought it was the most over-indulgent dross I'd seen for ages! the lead singer looked like yr man from Cold feet and was so self-obsessed...Ooh it's making me riled just thinking about it again!
I even went as far as to order 'Pink Squares' (I never ever ever buy singles, or anything to do with new bands tbh), loved it, then went back to listening to Ryan Adams. Le shrug.
Briefly thought they had redeemed/pinned down the essence of indie-pop. Then just realized they were the same old overly-compressed hacks. With 'Lets Dance To Joy Division' basically. Still hold out hope they might be dropped and get good again though! (its always the same, why do major labels hire such awful producers?)
My Vitriol
Though I still really like Always Your Way.
I found this album
for about three quid in some record store and when I listened to it I really couldn't remember why I ever liked them
My band?
As soon as I read that title I though of Los Campesinos!
Sums up my feelings entirely...
Haha
Me too, sadly. I think it was the new single that turned me off them. Hopefully the album can reverse that.
The Mirimar Disaster
Loved them live but think they're soooooo boring on record
urgh
thought they were awful live
Really?
Then you should definitely stay away from them on record
oh, this is a different question than I thought
I was going to say Franz Ferdinand, but I know why. Nothing was as good as Darts of Pleasure and Shopping for Blood.
depends of what you're calling "excited"
...
Southern Fly
haha!
i lost interest in forward, russia
but seeing them at truck reignited it. i think it mainly because they are great live, but don't come across that well on cd
totally.
Thought they were great live, enjoyed the tracks I found of theirs. Cannot summon any enthusiasm for them now.
Battles
Maybe I should give the album another chance.
Klaxons
re: Klaxons
that was the first band that came to mind when i heard Battles.
Sure you were
listening to the right band?
Githead
They had someone from Wire in them. I was really excited when I heard they were supporting Coil, but they sucked live. And on record they're evn worse.
Never mind, Wire are back.
You can now pre-order 'Read & Burn 3'.
Erm...have I missed something?
They're reformed?!
If they have then ignore my last thread.
they
never split up
Haha!
That's even better!
They did, actually
Newman left for a couple of years after their Pink Flag shows.
Githead..
..are bad on record? Fuck, I just ordered Art Pop.
Kinesis
i loved '...and they obey' single and thought the bsides were good too. i bought the album and it quickly dawned on me that they were quite, quite poor.
^ I was just going to say!
I liked their other single though. It sometimes comes back into my head randomly, but I couldn't hum it for you now.
So many bands release great singles
then you hear the album tracks and they're all filler. Seems to be the more successful bands that do this (i.e the ones dubbed as "ones to watch")
Shall I start a new thread for Battles?
Death from above
They seemed exciting and novel at first but somehow their appeal waned very quickly. Why, I don't know? Ask the French hauliers.
This^
^Me three^
...didn't work too well live either. It's a cocking shame.
good Partridge reference
Chris & Mollie
At first I thought they made perfect, twee indie-pop, but then I got the album and it's utterly unmemorable.
Thursday
Shame
anybody remember
that time when everyone on the internet got excited about CYHSY????
It happened in other cases too
MIA buzz died down despite Kala arguably being a better album (except for the rapping Aborigenes). Wolf Parade are seemingly stuck in side projects.
I can only think of Arcade Fire as having really pushed on from the Pitchfork buzz band label.
i actually really like
both their records, but thought they were shit when all the hype was going on.
I do unfortunately
- then i went to see them play and i thought it was the most over-indulgent dross I'd seen for ages! the lead singer looked like yr man from Cold feet and was so self-obsessed...Ooh it's making me riled just thinking about it again!
ps this is about CYHSY
not Arcade fire
Wolfmother
They really grind my gears these days.
I also thought of Los Campesinos stright away.
Asobi Seksu
Liked a couple of songs, listened to Citrus, listened to Souvlaki Space Station, haven't gone back to them since.
Arcade Fire
Laika and Power Out were really good....then they got played too much and I got bored of them
this los camps think is really odd
because atm i like them more than i ever did before.
so therefore i disagree.
klaxons i would definitely nominate for this.
I'd nominate Klaxons for the opposite
as in, everyone got so excited I got put off, and when I listened they were actually alright. Alright, nothing more, nothing less.

Gogol Bordello
Have to be seen live to be fully appreciated. I could take or leave the recorded stuff, but they were fucking brilliant live.
CSS
Los Camp
came to mind straight away. Also CYHSY.
Oh and the new Kanye West album.
yes, CSS
Qui
because they aren't anywhere near as 'rockin' as they could be
Boris + Battles because they are nowhere near as good as the internets makes out.
cold war kids
really not good in the end.
Dartz!
...
battles
are a band you need to see upclose in a small venue. then it all makes perfect sweaty glorious sense.
IH-URR!!!
I Was A Cub Scout
I even went as far as to order 'Pink Squares' (I never ever ever buy singles, or anything to do with new bands tbh), loved it, then went back to listening to Ryan Adams. Le shrug.
iuno
i've been thoroughly enjoying them of late and i reckon album 'i want you to know there is always hope' will be a goodun'
The Wombats
Briefly thought they had redeemed/pinned down the essence of indie-pop. Then just realized they were the same old overly-compressed hacks. With 'Lets Dance To Joy Division' basically. Still hold out hope they might be dropped and get good again though! (its always the same, why do major labels hire such awful producers?)
