i'll start you off with one from the Kiss page:

The trio played a showcase for Epic Records A&R director Don Ellis, in an effort to secure a record deal. Although the performance went well, Ellis hated the group's image and music. On top of that, as he was leaving, he was vomited on by Criss's brother

From the L7 entry

The band gained a certain amount of notoriety for their performance at the 1992 Reading Festival, when Donita Sparks removed her used tampon off-stage, returned to the stage, and threw it into the crowd yelling "Eat my Used Tampon, assholes."

Pretty sure this info is wrong though. Didn't this happen at Woodstock, and didn't she say "you throw mud, we throw blood"?

it definitely happened

at Reading, she might have done it again at Woodstock though?

Once is funny

Twice is just weird.

Maybe

she got Tampax sponsorship after the first time.

MEAT LOAF FACT:

In 1990, Meat Loaf joined Slim Fast and lost 84 pounds. Not only did he become $1 million richer, he even considered changing his name to Olive Loaf.

im sure this has been posted but

English football club A.F.C. Bournemouth has been known to play various Pavement songs during pre-match warm-ups. In 2005, following the release of Stephen Malkmus' Face the Truth, an A.F.C. Bournemouth supporter, outraged by the album's alleged lack of artistic integrity, burned Stephen Malkmus in effigy at the gates to Fitness First Stadium.

The part about burning effigys has been edited out

:D

that's amazing

:D

that's amazing.

Believe it or not

that entry is a pisstake of DiS user JimmyHuntspill. For the record, I am not responsible for putting it there.

About my band

"tipped to become a future underground icons, although not all commentators have been so kind - in one review, a critic insultingly likened them to 'the mutterings of a super-tenants-at-9-am tramp"

lol!

crap Less Than Jake facts:

Contrary to popular belief, Less Than Jake have never covered The Proclaimers' iconic hit "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)". Drummer, lyricist and band spokesman Vinnie has joked that it is the band's 'most downloaded song', despite the fact that they have never recorded their own version of it. The version fans are downloading is often mistakenly believed to be by British ska punk group Spunge, however it is actually a cover by Down By Law.

So

it's an erroneously labelled cover by somebody else, except it's not by them either? It's the MC Escher of cover versions.

it's not on Wikipedia, disappointingly

but my favourite anecdote comes, I think, from John Harris's The Last Party. If not, I can't remember where I heard it. Anyway:

Brett Anderson received a letter from The Vegetarian Society. They suggested that as a vegetarian, naming his band 'Suede' was cruel and innappropriate. Helpfully, they suggested that the band might like to re-name themselves 'Velour'.

It's a better name than The London Suede, I reckon!

i was shocked once

to find my name on the bromheads jack page saying i was one of there major infulances when i had only meet them once through the oxfam glamour models
