SERIOUSLY. This is a plea to the DiS staff, while you are doing your re-jigging of the new design at the moment and it's not fully settled - GET A NEW LOGO.
That one is a vile and looks like it was done by a 14 year-old who just found the effects on Photoshop.
Honestly, it looks really amateurish and if, as you mentioned Sean, that you are wanting to expand DiS and make it grow - is THIS the logo and image you want to represent you???
Please, just get them to re-do it now, this is really not what you want.
(Ok, so justifying my slightly harsh remarks -
1. The kerning. my god. yes squashed up sans serif can look good BUT THIS? toooo far, it just looks a mess. look at the last 3 letters on both main words!!?
2. The leading. so...? squash it RIGHT up then leave the tiniest gap that looks like a mistake? ok, good one.
3. I appreciate the drowning guy is kind of your trademark but it is painfully literal and maybe you should be moving on seeing as the WHOLE of the rest of the site has changed its image that could go too.
4. No originality. squashed up superbold (probably done with drop shadow - its looks hideous) sans serif type... wow, thats a new one. good innovative look to push your image forward... been done waay too often by everyone and their grandmas, you should be looking for something more interesting and striking.)

the top of the advert should lineup with the top of the logo, it looks shitty. and really the logo should fit into the lefthand column to keep the grid thing going... look, I'm just going to be quiet now. I'm just that much of a design/type nerd that this is genuinely pissing me - esp. seeing as you've paid for this crap.

my only gripe with the redesign which i feel totally justified over is the alignment of the page on the whole. everything is sort of...off. and not enough for it to look like it's deliberate. look at the top post of a thread versus the 'Hello, User' box on the left column. LEVEL THAT MUTHA UP.

i wouldn't want to be too hard on the DiS people - these things always take longer than you want them to and so there's always compromises which end up being made in order to meet your deadline...
It's far from ideal but often the way it ends up.
Although, an hour or so with the site CSS would do wonders.

the logo isn't at full resolution for most people, so it has rough edges all over it. viewed at actual size, it doesn't - but that's not how it shows up.
Why isn't it at full size, though?
I just copied the address and it looks exactly the same size to me. I'm running at 1680x1050 on a 20" TFT screen, though.
