... is their frankly irritating habit of listing which 'celebrities' have been seen at gigs. Best exemplified by this:
http://www.nme.com/news/112307.htm
"BRYAN FERRY, ASH, BLOC PARTY and HOPE OF THE STATES all turned out to see a triumphant show by Canadians THE ARCADE FIRE in LONDON last night"
What does that mean? How does it impact on the quality of the band AT ALL?
Sometimes, they're really ridiculous - the Coachella coverage mentioned Danny DeVito watching Coldplay. WOW, THAT'S ME IMPRESSED.
Re: The thing I hate most about NME.com...
they just want to be seen as 'cool' so the things they like must be seen by 'cool' 'with it' peeps
if the didn't like the arcade fire they wouldn't tell you that all the cool people had turned out because that would make them look uncool.

Or am I bluffing?
Re: The thing I hate most about NME.com...
I'm guessing no one actually reported on the gig itself and they just got mailed the g'list by kidfiddler or something, and they've used it as an excuse to mention those bands and earn a couple of quid from the PR peeps.
Not that I'm cynical or 'owt
Re: The thing I hate most about NME.com...
if they don't have any real news to post let them get on with it.
come on DiS instead.

its like commenting that the venue was empty
or that touts were charging lots outside.
it tells us something about where the band are in their career.
it also tells us that bloc party have good taste in music or whatever.
it really isnt the end of the world.
what I hate about that site is the way they have misleading headlines so you have to click a story that probably isnt very interesting, and receive a further deluge of popups/slowness.
