i thought they were an nu-emo/pop punk band. but people on here whose musical taste i generally respect keep listing them in lists of things they like. please describe them in one paragraph, explaining why i may or may not enjoy them.

they are a nu-emo/pop punk band

and the pinnacle of that generally rubbish genre. Lyrically pretty clever too. I only have one album.

One paragraph?

They've kinda gone a bit left of emo these days. Post-emo? Eh. You might enjoy 'em because, er, they're omgwtfawesome, you might not enjoy them if you hate emo and you judge them on people saying that's what they are.

they're

increasingly not an emo band at all, although I'd hesitate to classify them as 'indie' either. They just write dark, passionate, literate songs with invariably great lyrics.

they were the best band on a CD

Mr OceanStorm made me. They're great! I love all that kind of stuff though.

these are great

that song title is hilariously nu-emo though.

Yes,

they are awesome, one of the few bands to get better with each album. I hate it when people describe people as having a "matured" sound, but their sound has done just that over the course of three albums. The Devil and God is one of the best albums i have heard this year.

their only album worth listening to

is their latest, the ones before are way too Fall Out Boy-ish.

But I think that The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me was a really big step forward. The guitars were bold and imaginative, drumming was superb, vocals were alright and the lyrics were pretty decent too.

Absolutely NOTHING like Fall Out Boy

especially Deja, fair enough Your Favourite Weapon was a 'pop punk'/'punk rock' album but it was years before Fall Out Boy even existed. Jesse Lacey's lyrics have always been fucking brilliant and the vocal delivery is fantastic. I really can't see any comparison to some run-of-the-mill pop shit like FOB.

nothing like FALL OUT BOY!

Even the early stuff, like Jude Law, is far superior than any FOB. They have mastered the 'quiet/loud' thing and they're just amazing

fair enough

I admit the FOB comparison was harsh and off the mark, seeing that FOB are uber crap.

Still, I find their first two albums generally uninteresting, while the third is quite brilliant.

i like fall out by but they are nothing like them at all!

and 'vocals were alright'
pah!
he's one of my favourite vocalists
when his voice cracks a bit on jesus christ
oh god
fuck me

yes, theyt are excellent.

Best live band I've seen this year, superb lyrics and wonderful songs.

:)

:D

if they tour again we have to jump up and down together again!

Definitely!

That was so much fun.

You're looking at this the wrong way

What you should be doing is reconsidering whether you respect these people's musical taste or not. Brand New are okay.

^ This

A bit whiny though if you aren't under 18.

Forgettable rubbish

I'd explain more but I jettisoned their existence from my memory to make space.

Brand New

are excellent.
as someones already said, one of only a handful of bands to Truly progress and mature on every record.

.....

there is nothing wrong with the above statement.

wow.

This sarcasm is killing me

ha

so so so so wrong

fantastic band

their latest album is by far the best but the other two are pretty good too, if you're into that sort of thing.

the first album is so full of teen angst :D

Deja Entendu

is a fine fine album, its absolutely incredible.

agreed.

however having listened to the newest one more recently i'm starting to favour it over Deja' and Your Favourite'

the new one

is amazing, but Deja Entendu is one of the most consistently brilliant albums I've ever heard and it'll always have a special place in my heart.

The

latest album really is amazing, one of my favourite albums of the last few years for definite. Very clever and imaginitive.

1st album = pop punk

2nd album - indie pop punk
Haven't heard the 3rd

I like them, not that you respect me you masive CUNE

they write clever indiepoppunk tunes

with brilliant hooks, and quite egotistical yet fragile lyrics. i can understand why people don't like them, but i think they are missing out on a lot. also, they have the audasity to reference the end off sgt. pepper on the end of an album, which i find amusing.

^ don't listen to me, as that sounds aweful, but do check out their last two albums, as they are great.

This thread

inspired me to start listening to Deja Entendu at quite high volumes again.

Well done all.

I've been listening to it quite a bit recently too

It's the only album i have but i think this thread has inspired me to seek out their new one

Definetly get the third one

It's very worth it.

I've also just realised that will have been out for pushing a year soon.

February in Hammersmith was such a fantastic gig...ahh memories :)

I just have the image of the whole crowd shouting "We kept it safe and slow...THE QUIET THINGS THAT NO ONE EVER KNOWS" in my head now. Just brilliant.

THEY'RE SHIT! EXACTLY AS YOU THOUGHT

I got an album of their's once, free in a 6 Music compo. It was rubbish.

But then I think the same of Jimmy Eat World and everyone seems to think they're not generic 'emo' US alt-rock nonsense.

well

that's cos they aren't.

Well the album I heard was just rubbish.

Maybe they'd got shit?

IMO

no.

But hey whatever....

I'd go back and listen to it again

But I'm afraid I threw it out along with a couple of others that were bad from the same bundle.

which one was it?

Futures?

Check out a song called Disintergration....

My favourite band, ever.

Calling them emo is just a bit stupid really. Fair enough their first album fits under that tag easily, but they were all about 18 when they wrote it. Their most recent album bears no resemblance to it either lyrcially or musically

^^ this

indulge me please,

what order did the albums come out in? All i have is Deja Entendu.

i don't know which ones people are referring to when they say the first one, or the newest one

...

1st = Your Favourite Weapon (2001)
2nd = Deja Entendu (2003)
3rd = The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me (2006/2007)

the devil and god is genius,

deja entendu is amazing and i haven't heard the first one. I'm not in a rush to either, heard it's quite poppunky.

The devil and god is brilliant though.

first one

as said above is full of teenage angst. it's decent but nowhere near the 2nd or 3rd.

Yeah it is

But there are a couple of the best tracks the band have written on that album too.

true dat

also; have you heard Taking Back Sundays' "response" to Seventy Times Seven!?

No I havn't

I don't think...

Is it on one of their albums?

it's funny. like a petty childish fued.

have a gander.

Brand New original lyrics:
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/brandnew/seventytimes7.html

TBS "response" lyrics: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/takingbacksunday/theresnoiinteam.html

Context:

"The song title "Seventy Times 7" in Your Favorite Weapon comes from a verse in the Holy Bible - Matthew 18:22 - where Jesus tells Peter he must forgive his brother "seventy times seven" times - "Then Peter came and said to him, "Lord, if another member of the church sins against me, how oft should I forgive? As many as seven times?" Jesus said to him, "Not seven times, but, I tell you, seventy times seven times.". The song is about a disagreement between Jesse Lacey and childhood friend John Nolan, then-guitarist in Taking Back Sunday. Taking Back Sunday later released "There Is No 'I' in Team," which is their side of the story."

"There's No 'I' In Team"

Always makes me think I hate Taking Back Sunday more than I actually do. They have some cracking songs but that 'response' to Seventy Times Seven just makes them sound pathetic.

Oh yeah, and it's off their first album

'Tell All Your Friends'

I may have heard it then

They're not a band I listen to very much, but enjoy the occasional song.

everyday

i love this badn a little bit more
