DiS invents a joke genre name

the bands they put in it are awesome though. i want in with anything that is going to be putting on HTRK, HEALTH and Holy Fuck for £3 a go.

innit

other bands:
Deerhunter
Expoits Of Elaine
Einstellung

lets create!

Kind of disagree

about Deerhunter.

Some of Cryptograms there's maybe an argument for...

But they've a) kind of changed their style since then (Bradford Cox keeps on talking about doo-wop and such...)

and b) they're total attention whores (love them as I do- they can have all the attention for all I care), which is kind of un kraut-like, etiquette-wise (compare to Kraftwerk who apparently didn't even give their own record company their contact details, or something ridiculous like that).

Ooh point

I'm now just waiting for the day when Bradford Cox becomes a Jehovah's Witness then.

he is a total attention whore

but thats not a bad thing, and kind of irrelevent anyway.

besides its a made-up genre, or are we actually gonna go with it?

i don't think it's a bad thing at all!

and let's go with it

it's actually got good bands in it for a change

innit

ermm...any other ideas? id probably say destroyalldreamers though i guess they are post-rock mainly.

id actually say Yeasayer, though you can argue against it too.

Serena Maneesh

Well they sound like Neu!
Add: The Resistance

Totally agree with

Liars being trailblazers (even based in Berlin for Drum's Not Dead!) and Serena Maneesh being included.

no itd not

sereena maneesh blates, forgot them.
maybe The Warlocks, when considering their live show at least...

Well no, but...

surely it must help, aesthetically?

Actually

if Liars are included, then Deerhunter ought to be for sure as well, they're apparently really good friends, would actually help bind this hypothetical scene together.

it would

i will be sure to use this term in all coming reviews. do your bit too.
Early 2008- The Spring Of Neu-Kraut?

Woo.

Let's go for it.

lol

^ "if Liars are included, then Deerhunter ought to be for sure as well, they're apparently really good friends" ^

what will the official attire be

a starter...

t-shirts with the sleeves folded up.

These New Puritans

essentially, if you look at their activities in the past few months, they are quite possibly the scene leaders.

Liars though, are our obvious scene leaders from at least a heritage point of view...

DiS is doing a Neu-Kraut showcase event early next year - let us know who we should be looking at...

Please don't

Can't we just let the scene flourish via it's natural means as opposed to applying some second-rate, short-termist pigeonholing?

this scene started in LA years ago

you guys ever been to the smell, ec cetera.... ?!

Two names

Not mentioned yet:

-Working For A Nuclear Free City
-Fujiya & Miyagi

"Working For A Nuclear Free City"

must've missed this, all i remember from their album were terrible madchester basslines.

Huh

They're pretty Krauty now at least. Didn't hear anything off the first one, so we could both be right.

velofax?

velofax.

Age-old problem with interpreting kraut..

....ie. fools confusing anything droney and repetitive as krautrock. Needs something a with a little spark.

Earthless are pretty good example.

velofax

.

120 Days

Are any of the people mentioned here German?

No? They aint Krautrock then

velofax

definitely Velofax

Duh

Neu-kraut.

Krautrock was a German movement yeah, but it's still a helpful label for describing a band with a certain set of influences.

ok..

but between Can and Neu and Faust and Amon Duul there's a lot of room covered. What they probably mean (bear in mind that i've never heard any of these bands) is "extended motorik groove or something". But that's less catchy

Wasn't Neu-Kraut...

the industrial stuff like Neubauten?

Hell, we better not get all New Wave of New Wave on this comedy genre...
