Down 3

might be the only metal album i bought this year :S
it was rather good, especially the stuff pepper helped write.

i forgot

Oxbow
Pissed Jeans

Earth - Hibernaculum

Big Business - Here Come The Waterworks
Melvins - (A) Senile Animal

I have to agree on High On Fire too although I yet to get my greasy mits on that new Om record.

damn

i still havent got Hibernaculum! keep forgetting.

the new Om is short but tremendous.

Hibernaculum

is only 38 minutes, but it's 38 minutes of sheer joy.

A Senile Animal is an amazing record but surely 06?

Boris / Kurihara thing was incredible.

All kinds of nonsense from headheritage.co.uk..

Yeah perhaps

it was 2006, I don't really remember.

It's good

Dunno about the "ICE CREAM!" bit though :)

or

pillamid - geddit it's like a pyramid of pills!

A particularly vintage year for the heavy stuff..

...probably listened to the Big Business record more than anything else.

Pelican

City of Echoes

Boris & Michio Kurihara

Rainbow.

Talibam!

Everyone needs some skronk in their lives.

Botch

the "We Are the Romans" reissue is well worth buying.

Every Time I Die - The Big Dirty

Drop Dead, Gorgeous - Saylor Lake
The Number 12 Looks Like You - Mongrel

Three fucking quality albums.

Wolves in the Throne Room

Two Hunters
easily

Everyone who likes metal needs to hear this

some good choices

especially the new Melvins album - that's fantastic. Also porcupine tree - Fear of a Blank Planet - is wonderful - if not so heavy.

of course

the Melvins album was 06. oh well, still amazing.

Have you got

the Melvins Making Love Demos that just came out? It's dead good, raw recordings of some Ozma songs and a couple of unreleased songs too.

Between The Buried And Me

Colors. Without Question. Forget the fact that it's on Victory records and actually listen to it. Just wow.

Pelican

and both the Jesu releases

what were the jesu releases?

i really enjoyed the silver ep from a few years back.

.

the album Conqueror and EP Lifeline.

Both very good!

Nile - Ithyphallic

You did put HEAVY in CAPS :-)

Devil Sold His Soul- A Fragile Hope

Brutal and still lush

DSHS is a great call.

going to see them on thursday in fact.

They are touring again?

Their London date a few weeks back was cancelled due to illness. I may have to investigate

yeah yeah

supporting Architects with Cry For Silence in Trowbridge on Thursday.

rest of the tour seems to cover the following..

tonight; Sheffield Corporation
14th; London Underworld (feat. Blackhole too)
15th; Trowbridge Terrys'
16th; Brighton Pressure Point
29th; Bristol Croft

Hmmm

The London date is tempting but I am supposed to be doing something else tomorrow...

for more details.
oh and each gig is £6.50 or £7.50
bargain.

whooooo

bring on wednesday, it's going to be blinding

xxx

how heavy is 'heavy'?

The Bled - Silent Treatment
Architects - Ruin

also, the Grizzlytwister

album is very good, if you like the idea of white noise mixed with extremely heavy punk music.

....

tony danza tapdance extravaganza
every time i die
the locust
trap them
psyopus
dillinger
pig destroyer
the chariot
nile
between the buried and me

all these have been sweet - theres probably mor e- need to consult cd collection etc.....

every time i die

and then not so heavy but still heavy in places:
future of the left
reuben

Still finding the Dillinger album hard work

I really hope I eventualy get into it.

Heaviest album this year - Throbbing Gristle- Part Two: Endless Not. Fucking overload!

Haven't heard the new Ministry one yet

I've heard that it's meant to be back to Psalm 69/Filthpig standard, is this true? I've also heard it might be their last ever, stopping doersn't see to be something Al Jourgensen could do!

*doesn't

yeh it really is that good

and he does indeed claim its the last

Boris with Michio Kurihara is definitely teh good

Otherwise, I don't think this year has been amazing for heavy. Mainly cause I haven't bought the Om or Melvins albums because I am frightened by said bands extensive back catalogue of which I have no knowledge.

But my twopenny worth:

Pissed Jeans
Boris w/Michio
Jesu (conqueror, haven't got the ep yet)
Pelican
and probably The Icarus Line (which is good, you fagtards, thought whether it's truly heavy is debatable.)

the om back catalogue

aint that big...the new one is only their third record.

however i think you'd be a big fan of Sleep (Om + singer from High On Fire), especially their Holy Mountain record.

really?

Might be worth my investigation then. Shame I'm not near any record shop worth it's salt right now....

what melvins album is best for starters, anyone?

currently

trawling the melvins back catalogue myself..theres very little fat in it to be honest, dale crover ep is wicked and gluey porch treatments..always begin near the beginning i reckon. that said the ipecac reissue of 8 songs (as 26 songs) is a bit flabby, and on some poor recording you cant hear dale at all.

Get..

..Lysol. Best Melvins record ever, in my opinion.

Ion Dissonance-

Minus the Herd. Holy shit it is heavy.

how about..

shellac - excellent italian greyhound?

its fantastic.

...and

pissed jeans are ace...like the cows having sex with black sabbath

Unsane's effort

for Unsane's sake

Down I Go - This is Robotcore

not an album, but it's 5 minutes of heavy tunes!

i would have say

Pig Destroyer - Phantom Limb
Baroness - The Red Album
Om - Pilgrimage
Weedeater - God Luck And Good Speed

bump

boris - Michio Kurihara was 06

boxing day, or Christmas eve. One or the other if I remember correctly.

The Fucking Champs - VI
Oxbow - the Narcotic Story
Big Business - Here Comes the Waterworks
Afrirampo - Suutobreakor [not necessarily heavy, but alternative to the usual stuff that you get in the DiS end of year lists *]
World's End Girlfriend - Hurtbreak Wonderland *

I've bought a remarkably low number of new albums this year, let alone actual good ones.

Reuben

Not much more to add really

Boris & Kurihara is a brilliant album, although hardly heavy.
Same with Jesu's various releases; all amazing, but he's pretty much shoegaze now.
The Om record is awesome, as is the Pelican one.

torche

'in return'. i guess this is an ep really, but i love it.

Hmmm....

Between The Buried And Me
Castor Troy
Errander
Emmure
Nora
Poison The Well
The Dillinger Escape Plan
The Ghost Of A Thousand
Will Haven
