I wouldn't say they were a great band though. alot of the lyrics are very poor and some of the vocals are restrained due to the fact that the guy couldn't sing very well.
I think they got enough praise for the output they made to be honest with you.
if you google them, nothing comes up. NOTHING. How can that be?
On Project Ako, a lot of love was lost watching em down the grapes. Pissed and ecstatic to see my childhood heroes (albeit in neutered form) I jokily shouted/heckled 'play siamese!' at the behest of a friend. The reply -
.....but they were never going to be massive. The British public would never have supported a band so messy & noisy - which is a shame. "Siamese" is still a fucking wonderful tune.
I remember talking to Ben Kweller about ten years ago outside the old Barfly (The Falcon) in Camden & he was raving about how UY were his favourite band in the world. Bless 'im.
I'll answer myself
YES.
I'd put them in the top 10 Glasgow bands.
good band

I LOVE Urusei Yatsura
they were definitely overlooked.
I was playing 'Slain By.....' on my way back from work today, it kept me sane in the traffic jam.
gotta love'em.
'Kewpies Like Watermelon' brings back the fondest 90s memories to me. :)
plus..
...the one
yep
best of the 90s and all that
project ako, unfortunately, are really boring.
When are they bringing out an album?
They appear to have been talking about it for years.
soonish apparently...
Urusei were GREAT !
oh yes!
i love em!!!
SIAMESE SIAMESE SIAMESE SIAMESE
i've got the plastic ashrtay 7"
its one of my favourite musical moments of the 90's
i like the one that has a chorus of
bad-da-da-dad-da bad-da-da-da-da :)
^ Strategic Hamlets
probably, their finest song.
bf
No, I bought some of their sevens in an attempt to 'get into' them after hearing them on Peel. They are just shit. Boring, no songs
i saw them live once
my friends and i only went because we liked the anime they took their name from. they were a lot of fun though.
Kewpies Like Watermelon
RAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWR
FUCK YEAH!
I'm going to listen to Kewpies Like Watermelon, STAT. :-D
The most under-rated band of the 90s is probably Longpigs.
they were ace at reading
in 1998
it's mad
if you google them, nothing comes up. NOTHING. How can that be?

'How predictable.'
Lighten up!
There's kewpies in the attic
... and they listen when we're at it
Glo Starz
is one of my favourite songs of all time. Really liked the Yon Kyoku Iri EP too.
i was
listening to the Yon Kyoku ep earlier. particularly enjoyed Mother of the MBK!
Slain by elf and hello tiger remind me of a time when xfm was actually quite good.
Great band
Everybody Loves Urusei Yatsura is a great forgotten indie pop album. My favourite of theres by quite a bit. It gets a few listens every summer.
They never really
did anything better than the first album in my mind. The two follow ups were pretty average overall, although they still had some great songs.
Projekt A-ko have their moments (Ichiro on 3rd is ace) but i always preferred Graham's songs/voice to Fergus's.
Elves
Slain by was my favourite album
Glo Starz is SUCH a good way to kick off an LP
BUMP
I really like Supertriste Duxelle on the Projekt A-ko myspace, kinda shoegazery harmonies.

They were great
but very 90's, so didnt stand a chance long term. And for the record, Fake Fur is their best song.
Used to love going to see them.
