Just been to see this earlier.

It really is INCREDIBLE.

Even the mediocre Russel Crowe pulls a decent performance out the bag.
Densil Washington is mesmirising.
The best Gangster film since Goodfellas, honestly.

ok

I NEED to see this

saw this sunday night

and have to agree it's great. don't know that i'd go as far as to say it's up there with goodfellas but it is a very fine film.

oh good

im off to see this on friday. if its bad im coming to you for a refund.

wow

I didn't get that from it at all. I thought Ridley Scott failed at 'slowly building' the story - it just stayed at the same pace throughout with no worthwhile climax. And the constant shots/soundbites of Ali, Nixon et al grew tiresome. Yes, WE KNOW THIS FILM IS SET IN THE 70s. Seriously, directors need to drop that tactic

Denzel was pretty good, but I thought Russell Crowe was unconvincing playing that character. He didn't seem anywhere near as conflicted as I assume he was supposed to be. Nowhere near enough shared screen time between the two of them either. What a waste, having two actors like that and only having them interact during the last 20 minutes

As I said on here the other day, I think Ridley Scott wasted a potentially classic story. Which must suck for him, as you can blatantly tell he was going for that 'instant classic'

I was expecting much more, basically

^ this

i agree. i thought pretty much the same, i was well let down

I

wouldn't go that far. Definitely enjoyable though. More entertaining than I'd anticipated anyway.

frankly

it's cack, and I always look for the good in films. It makes the main characters so boring as to lose any dramatic impact; the story has no tension as it's an obvious arc and the non sequitur at the end where he builds up a case against the rogue cop in montage fly-by, is execrable.Denzel is great as always, Brolin is superb, the film is just over-wrought, dull and burdened by a palpable desire to be 'epic' when it's just not.

Haven't seen it yet but have heard both Washinton and Crowe being interviewed

on Radio 4 in separate programmes and neither mentioned the other at any point.

Struck me as very odd. But then Crowe does come across a complete cock so maybe they didn't get along.

ridley scott is a hack

who occasionally makes a half decent film

I wanna see this but I'll wait till its on tv, Im not giving him any money

I have no idea how you could

call Ridley Scott a hack. It's just wrong. He picks the projects that he directs and puts his own visual flair on the film.

Alien, Blade Runner and Gladiator are not 'half decent'.

Still, as I've said before on another thread I won't be seeing this as it's got mediocre reviews.

" I wont be seeing this as it got mediocre reviews."

Do you enjoy others making your mind up for you?

i thought this film

was bloody brilliant.

end of.

this ^

its ace. reminded me of goodfellas a lot. its not as good as goodfellas, but its definitely worth a trip.

'enjoy'-no.

But it's better getting advice from people who have watched thousands of films and have good knowledge on the subject.

I pretty much base all my film watching on whether it's got good reviews, and therefore I end up watching good films. It's quite simple.
